Hafez is one of my favorite poets.
    Even after all this time,
the sun never says to the earth,
    ‘you owe me.’
Look what happens with a love like that!
It lights up the whole sky.

This is actually not a poem by Hafez. It is by Daniel Ladinsky who alleges to have been inspired by Hafez. Nonetheless, it's a wonderful poem.

my Fav Ghazal of him is:
    یوسفِ گُم گشته بازآید به کنعان، غم مَخُور
Your lost Joseph will return to Canaan, do not grieve
    کلبهٔ احزان شَوَد روزی گلستان، غم مخور
This house of sorrows will become a garden, do not grieve

I wish I could read this amazing poem in the original version. I'm a professional translator and I know that in the process of poems' translation around 70% of its contextual meaning and original beauty is lost. I can already speak 5 languages but I lm afraid its take me many years to learn Farsi to the level which would be good enough for understanding Persian poetry 😀

Its much nicer in the original language, but quite difficult to understand. Words have different meanings and poets play with them

I like to listen in original even if I do not understand. I enjoy English transkations, but melody, song of original language, that is something else.

Our Bangladesh is influenced by many Persian poets. Sheikh Sadi, Hafis are notable among them. This is because during the Middle Ages some Persian royal families ruled the region of Bangladesh. Prominent in the Nawab Sirajdullah family of Persia

Around 75% of Urdu words have their etymological roots in Sanskrit and Prakrit, and approximately 99% of Urdu verbs have their roots in Sanskrit and Prakrit. The remaining 25% of Urdu's vocabulary consists of loanwords from Persian and Arabic.
Urdu language is closer to Sanskrit than Persian, even Urdu language was born in India.
