Funny thing, this story actually predates SCP-2000! I think it might have been one of the inspirations for it? But this is one of the first big SCP tales from what I remember. :D
This is why some alternative realities are not lined up, temporally speaking. Some worlds were rebooted, some rebooted often, and some were not... leaving perceived time is either the future or the past of each... or alternative versions of each. As for that trench, it's a slow-grinding tectonic plate that grinds down everything. That's not the place where people want to put things that they need to be remembered. It's a slow God-mode version of a wood chipper. It turns all things not ground into the dust falling into the magma mantle into the silt that is at its bottom. Mobile living things can find shelter there. Idle things will be destroyed there. That's the only place on Earth where the surface Earth and Mantle Earth are literally grinding their gears as the surface being shoved under the surface.

In 2020, the year of Covid-19 and anarchy, Disney actually had a Jungle Cruise ship sink from an accident. But due to monetary strain from the pandemic, they decided to sink the Disney Magic Cruise Ship to become an artificial reef. Spooky how in a terrible year of disaster, that happens, mirroring this story. Let's hope we don't see a GH-0 "Dead Greenhouse" scenario.

I love the way thees storys bring the human touch in to some of thees storys and make you fill the terror of what they were supose to have gone through!

This is one of my favorite SCP Tales, it gives some cool references to SCPs and still feels standalone :)
