    Great video. Yesterday, my dog decided to pull up some carpet from the edge of a single stair. I didn't think I'd be able to patch, but watching this makes that look super easy! Thank you!

    Thanks for this! My cats are jerks. Having exposed plywood on my carpeted stairs is so tacky looking.

    My first thought watching this is you were gonna place a board under the step to do the patch how Corey does in some of his videos.
    This one here isn't worth pulling the whole step off and with being contour steps. Looks great, even got it sealed.

      That's funny was talking with Corey about that when uploading. If these were waterfall steps I probably would do it like that but I don't come across them too often.

    Can a (fresh) utility blade do the job well enough?
    And where you used the stair tool (i think that’s what you called it), are there other tools that might be more common around the house? I was thinking one of those flat I want to call it a putty knife but I don’t think that’s the right name. I’ve used it for patching chips in cement before putting down floor, and patching drywall. But it looks a lot thinner than the tool you used.

      The utility knife will be fine, also have some scissors to help clean up the edges of the carpet after cutting.
      And yes the putty knife should work, it doesn't have to be as thick as the stair tool just strong enough to push the carpet in!

      @@justsaygold thank you! And I know I didn’t say it but your video is fantastic. You explain/show what to do clear and quick. It took this from a daunting chore to less than a weekend task.

    What is the name of that steam iron? And does low heat seam tape work the best?

    • @justsaygold
      @justsaygold  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's a black and decker steam iron but it's getting harder to get them online because they are discontinued.
      As for the seam tape I'm not even sure, I just use regular carpet seam tape.

      Since it’s getting discontinued can I just use a regular iron with seam tape?

    looks easy but i dont have a spare piece of the carpet what do i do

    • @justsaygold
      @justsaygold  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If there is no spare carpet I usually take a small piece from a closet and do the repairs. Then I put a different piece of carpet in the closet.

    Hey Nick! When you use the steamer to do your seams, how much time do you have to align the carpet afterwards? Or do you make all alignments before using the steamer?

    • @justsaygold
      @justsaygold  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question, I always match everything up first then use my steamer when doing patches. If I'm doing a long seam or carpet install I'll use a carpet seam iron and seamer down now and will align the carpet as I go since the glue is still hot. I'm not sure how long the glue stays hot with the steam iron method but I will definitely test that out. Thanks for giving me that idea!
