Heather Wylie omg, YES! 😂🤣😂 I’m a little older, so for me that craze hit when I was in grade 10, but oh yea. Grade 8 for me here in Canada was “carpenter jeans” (all those extra pockets!!), Hanley tops, Bonnie bell flavoured lipsmackers and seabreeze facial acne products 😂
Susan Horan I used to call it the “satellite dish” hairstyle. You’d backcomb the heck out of your bangs, and if you were blessed with natural curl, scrunch dry the sides & back. Otherwise you got what was called a “body perm” and THEN you scrunch dried the sides and back...with your head flipped upside down for EXTRA volume (😂 of course). Plus a huge can or two of hairspray per week, lol. ...I don’t think my folks ever did get the smell of all that hairspray out of the bathroom. 🤔😂🤣😂🤣

Seriously when Kim went into her 8th grade routine, I figured it would be nada. I’m 31 and don’t have a face care routine and only wear makeup occasionally. My skin is great!
Shoulder pads were awesome IMO! Because I have linebacker shoulders but in my teens it didn't matter because everyone else's shoulder pads looked like my unpadded shoulders. Lol..now, not so much!
Lola's skincare game is on point, except she needs sunscreen. I can't remember my 8th grade (1986) routine, but I'm pretty sure it was some sort of harsh soap and astringent toner. Watching Lola react to Kim's photos and routine is priceless. More Lola, please.
My middle school friend group used purple mascara, liner & eyeshadow. Our routine started every morning in the cafeteria bathroom by sharing our supplies with each other. Its obvious now why I often had stys at that age. 🥴
I'm in middle school rn and I love blue mascara lol. I love it when the light hits my eyelashes just right and they are such a vibrant blue! It's awesome
I was a Noxema girl too. I used it in the morning and Neutrogena at night to remove makeup while washing my face. Just those two products throughout my teens and 20’s, which was 70s-80s. I loved the smell of Noxema but my sisters hated it (we 3 shared a bathroom). I stopped using it when I figured out it was why my face was so dry. I bet a lot of girls used Noxema back then, there weren’t that many skincare products available back then. Thanks Kim for the trip down memory lane. I haven’t thought about Noxema in forever! 💜
No. She isn't wearing sunscreen! That's the only legitimate "look great when you get old" part of a young person's routine. As long as they refrain from permanent face alterations like tats or piercings. Love and respect your real face!

Kim omg yes Debbie Gibson, I had her perfume too, I did blue eye shadow and mascara in 8th grade I begged to wear makeup, my parents were super strict. I had horrible acne in high school
I never grew out of my goth phase which hit me at age 12. Went from ginger potato to Siouxsie Sioux, with not great skin. I agree they really are clued in nowadays, and I’m kind of jealous. But I guess us mature ladies know what we are doing, and have gained experience from being awkward turtles. For the record I’m 27
Omg Kim do you remember laughing at the little old ladies who had their eyebrows penciled on in angry slashes? And you wouldn't even think that a teenager would be using eyebrow pencils... we didn't even pluck the brows caz Brooke Shields had full bushy eyebrows so everyone did. I now have thinning brows and have so many options available to not end up with angry brows. And my 10 year old Granddaughter plucks and draws in brows like a pro. Wth
In 8th grade, I washed, toned, did oil control gel and moisturized. At night, benzoyl peroxide. I was allowed to wear mascara and blush and a little powder in 7th grade (at 12). This was such a wonderful video! So great to see you two together, Kim you were so pretty and still are and Lola looks a lot like you! This was so interesting and fun! We didn’t have serums in the 20th century. I love how the mom didn’t know much here yet looks absolutely gorgeous!! Thank you for this, Kim & Lola-great idea!
First of all, Lola is absolutely adorable and I was laughing so hard at all the faces she was making when mom was whipping out the 80's skincare stuff! Oh, BTW Kim, you forgot Sea Breeze, Oxi Clean pads, and using green eyeshadow combined with foundation to "hide" hickeys! :)
I graduated HS when you would’ve been 7th grade, Kim, & I worn the blue eyeliner too! I also used blue, purple or black mascara. If only I would’ve known to moisturize my oily skin back then! I used toners & such on my poor face. Sigh I have used primer in the last 10+ years, but i only use coconut oil now - it’s my moisturizer & primer. I put some on, dab of the extra after a couple minutes & then apply my power foundation (Jane Iredale). It’s inexpensive & not full of toxic ingredients. My skin has never been healthier. I do like the idea of the roller though, it is supposed to help blood flow/circulation in your skin! Good job Lola!
I loved that. I was in 8th grade in 1996 and so I didn't have the 80s thing going for me. But the grunge and super girly was totally a thing. Sparkly butterfly clips, slip dresses, and my makeup routine was... no where near what it is now. Lol.
Absolutely we want to see more of this. I was a teen in the 60’s and we wore way more makeup than the kids do now. It’s great that they are wearing less. So much more natural.
😂🤣😂 I love it! We all must have learned that routine from the same place! From the tooth paste to the tinted clearasel. And Thank You for the nutrigina reminder, omg! Did you use it for sunburns too? I’m a bit older but wow you just took me down memory lane. Thank you for your videos. Now I remember why I don’t like shine! And why I always dried my face with sea breeze toner before the toothpaste 😂 I hope you are this funny at home together when no one is watching because I think you are all pretty terrific. We need more people like your family in this world.
I’m in 7th grade and a girl and I have abousltly ZERO asking care routine,I use lotion when my hands are dry,but that’s it,that stuff is expensive and a waste of money because there’s this thing called natural beauty. And I’m a bit of a Tom boy and a nerd so I don’t even care, half the time i don’t even brush my hair, true story! But I wash it every night.
I was you as a teen. Boy cut, no makeup, did not take care of my skin, and boy do I regret it 15 years later. My grandma was right, I should have moisturized! I'm now doing it, even just a body moisturizer after a shower, and my skin is not itchy and tight anymore! I'd recommend sunscreen/unexposed skin and moisturizer. Makeup isn't a requirement.
@@katiacleroux7376 yeah, I use sunscreen, but I think I’m more of just a lazy person. All I would do anyway is conclearer to get rid of my zits on my forehead and dark circles under my eyes, but I don’t know where I’d get it and that’s just not me. Makeup just feels weird
Love this! I got the smell and waxy texture the second you said the name! No sunscreen back then, highest spf was 4 so Noxema was put on the sunburned shoulders and nose after! Thing is, there is so much new products now that can combine a couple of steps in the skincare routine that can really help more mature skin and techniques to apply the makeup that it's overwhelming and not all are needed to look your best. My daugther that I had to fight with just to brush her hair turned into a beauty guru with youtube videos and was hired as cosmetician at 17! So she brought home so many different products from her formations, end of line, new promotions etc and tested her skills on my "expired" face! But this gave me the opportunity to take my time reading the labels of what was available and try them without paying a fortune for some big name brands, like 120$ for Lancome eye serum! And guess what? I now use a good non drying cleanser and finish with olive oil with water, lipstick and mascara. And she does my eyebrows if I go out, very rarely! But you are so beautiful! Use the makeup to beautify what nature gave you and not to try to look like a plastic version of yourself! But you got that already! 💙💓💙 P.s. the shoulder pads were great to balance the width of the hips magnified by non streched, high waist pleated acid wash jeans and tucked in sweater with a belt! Beautiful years!!
Kim I think you and I are the same age haha...I remember when I was allowed to wear make-up it was a Cover Girl foundation, a tiny bit of gray eyeshadow, black eyeliner (only on the bottom OYE) and frosted pink lipstick LOL. Topped everything off with either Baby Soft perfume or Debbie Gibson's Electric Youth perfume haha ohhhh the memories. My skin routine in 1989 was Sea Breeze, Clearasil and Keri Lotion as my moisturizer lol. 😁
On the outside corner of the eye ya to lift the eye since the corners tends to be a little shaded and downward. By adding the concealer it brightens and lifts. Light brings out darken brings in. That’s why bronzer goes under the cheekbones to sculpt and bring out the cheekbones and that’s why you add highlighter up top! Love Lola’s knowledge of skincare at such a young age!
No need to be embarrassed. When I was younger and trying to get approval, I had a more lengthy routine, too. I'm 48. Now I just wash. I moisturize when I remember. That's it. Have a blessed day.
I try to find color mascara every year around Halloween. I'm in my mid-30s and still love having fun colors for mascara. I rarely wear makeup anymore, though. Lola's pre-makeup routine is extensive, but I love that she doesn't worry too much about her makeup. She looks beautiful!
Yes, if Lola could teach all us 40 somethings how to do proper skincare and make up, I would be so totally stoked! I don't want to make people say "Gag me with a wooden spoon" when they see my face!
I use Double Duty Shape Tape too. I tried everything ..a little goes a long way with that concealer. My maiden name was Gibson and as a teen..I use to tell people Debbie Gibson was my cousin. I loved Debbie Gibson, Tiffany, ect. Noxema is still okay. I just started putting all my face cleansers in shower..life gets easier. If you want to save money for serums instead of going to ULTA..your daughter should look at TJ Maxx.. Marshalls or one of the sister stores. Lots of serums(Vitamin C, Retinol, Peptide, etc) cheaper at these locations. However..our ulta is still only doing curbside delivery..but my favorite make-up store. Cute video! I hope your daughter always keeps a good skin care routine...it really set you up for life.
This was so fun! Cheers to all of the ladies who made it through middle and high school without Google, straightening irons, SPF, serum, clean eating, Netflix and technology!! I mean seriously, we recorded songs on the radio on cassette tapes ;)
Kim’s face when Lola puts on the mask! (How do you not know she has that?!) Haha! I totally used Noxema in the 90s (though I would wet my face first and washed it off with water after). I totally use toothpaste for zits still! And I can’t bring myself to buy primer-too many products that I supposedly need! (Or too lazy to investigate which one to get.) And Lola’s side part looks very good on her!
I think lola doing skincare reviews or makeup tutorials would be awesome. Her skin routine is ON POINT and she’s only 14!! But Hyram would definitely add sunscreen.
My skin care routine in the 80s was soap and water. I was always a " tom boy" (I apoligize if that is an offensive term, it was the one I always used). Never even gave any of that a thought. Never wore make up either. First time I wore make up was on my wedding day when it was pushed on me to wear it for the pictures. When the veil came up I don't think my husband recognized me.
I said it before in another video when I noticed that Lola's skincare looked good! Today's world with on line info is good for this reason that younger generation knows how they should be doing it and what to use! 🙌 Lola! (and love your name too 😊) Blue mascara was cool at the time although my eyes are dark brown. White liner inside is and was to brighten the whites of your eyes. Can't hurt, especially after a night out! 😁
I used Noxema for decades, then suddenly one night I started wheezing seconds after putting it on. In the blink of an eye I became allergic to it - and many other chemicals. I can't walk through half the grocery store because of chemical smells and if a mall vendor tries to squirt anything on me I tell them I will have a deadly asthma attack if they do, to PLEASE stay away! But I loved my Noxema up until then.
My skin care post 80’s but given my mother’s skincare from 84-89, I definitely used Noxema. I tried Clean & Clear, Sea Breeze, Principal Secret, and a few others; even the good old glycerin soap. I was the goth chick that looked like Siouxsie Sioux in her makeup, but without it a cratered ginger bright red potato. It wasn’t until I was in college and tried Burts Bees where my skin finally started to clear. I was diagnosed with Rosacea and a severe allergy to Parabens/Sulfates which was I was bright red potato. I do have serums and two separate routines for night and day. I wish I had known sooner when I was your daughter’s age to help calm the raging skin. I can’t believe how many girls are skipping an awkward phase in the sense of skin issues.
1987: Baby oil on a cotton ball to remove eye makeup then yellow dial soap with a washcloth. Seabreeze astringent & tinted Oxy10 to treat & cover zits. Eventually I saved up my babysitting money to buy a bar of clear Neutrogena soap (I heard about it thru a friend who could afford a dermatologist). Makeup: 1 of 6 choices of orangey pressed face powder (with the included puff. Stick undereye concealer. Great Lash mascara. Bonne Bell lip smackers. Maybelline or Cover Girl eyeshadow trios (my fave was hot pink, teal, & purple). No primer, no liquid foundation makeup, no contour, highlighter, eyebrow "routine", lipliner, multi-step eyeshadow craziness.
I’m pro Lola! I’ll happily listen to anything she’s willing to teach me. I have a teenage daughter too and it’s the BEST! Tech support, beauty advice, and reminders not to wave so enthusiastically. 👍🏻
I'm in high school now and I do exactly what Kim does. Every morning I just put that exact product on my face, no water or anything on before, then just wipe it off with a damp towel. Works like a charm lol.

Just to clear this up, because I see a lot of comments about the jade roller. The answer about it being a marketing scam is yes and no. It is based in a Chinese technique called gua sha. The jade is cooling and helps reduce swelling and improve circulation as well as lifting the skin upwards to prevent it from sagging in old age. However, my Chinese MIL and SIL have said the same results can be achieved with a spoon put in the freezer overnight. Does the system do everything it promises? It definitely helps reduce morning swelling which from a medical standpoint does mean that it’s improving circulation. Girls are soon much more clued up nowadays , I went from no make up to full on goth when I turned 16..lol ... for reference I'm now 43 ..lol
As the parent of an 8th grade girl myself, I say YES to more from Lola!! 👍🙂
Kim! No SeaBreeze? I thought we all used Clearasil & SeaBreeze in the 80's. Now I use water, and at night a bit of coconut oil.
This was so fun to watch! You guys are so blessed to have each other. Would love to see a time warp wardrobe comparison ☺️
KIM what an upgrade! How can you look better every year?! Honestly!?👌👍👏🤷♀️
4:39 At first i was gonna say “wow she definitely watches skincare by Hyram” but then she put on this 😅
I was just telling my daughter about Noxema yesterday! 😂
But I was waiting for the Sea Breeze to come out afterward. Noxema for the sting, followed by Sea Breeze for the burn! 😬😜
Noxema girls get noticed 🤣
@@jean1228 Yes! 😂
@@melissawatchel4389 😂
I used to use it and I will in a pinch during travel!
So cute! Definitely more Lola! Kim is beautiful and has beautiful kiddos!
Sigh
I have used primer in the last 10+ years, but i only use coconut oil now - it’s my moisturizer & primer.
Lol.
The mother daughter bond is so sweet! I hope my daughter and I can share wonderful experiences like this when she's older. :)
This was fun to watch and I even had a FEW flashbacks! ;) Very pretty Mom and Daughter! Miss Lola should do whatever she wants.....we WILL watch!
Absolutely we want to see more of this. I was a teen in the 60’s and we wore way more makeup than the kids do now. It’s great that they are wearing less. So much more natural.
This was awesome! Lola is growing into such a mature young lady. :)
Lola: I don’t know but I learned it on Tik Tok so it must work
Me: laughing my head off
I love how Lola was teaching kim about skin care. Do more videos like this please.
It isn't a waste. It's just personal preference.
amiablehacker good point, and my personal preference is to spend my money on other stuff
I’m in 6th grade and I have like skin issues so I only use the stuff my dermatologist tells me to do.
“My face was a different shade than my neck” pretty much sums up all of our makeup routines 🤣🤣🤣
How does Lola have all this stuff Kim doesn’t know about? Love your videos! They got me through the quarantine! Keep up the great work! 👍
P.s. the shoulder pads were great to balance the width of the hips magnified by non streched, high waist pleated acid wash jeans and tucked in sweater with a belt! Beautiful years!!
My 11 year old self was cringing at the 80s skincare and make up routine 😂
"I don't know but I learned it on Tik Tok so it must work" that part is hilarious 😂
I’m embarrassed how much I just learned from the teenager... I’m 34 😂😂😂 Thanks Lola!
No need to be embarrassed. When I was younger and trying to get approval, I had a more lengthy routine, too. I'm 48. Now I just wash. I moisturize when I remember. That's it.
Have a blessed day.
@@missnaomi613 you need to wear sunscreen if not everything else that your doing is for no reason.
I highly recomend you Dr Dray's videos . She is a dermatologist on TH-cam and is THE BEST
*Debbie Gibbson*. *blue eyeliner and blue mascara *. The bomb!!! Lol!!!
Dang, Seems like they use more stuff today than back in the day!!
4:19 And then her partner joins her to play 'Technologic'. 😂😂😂
Imagine having a skincare routine in eighth grade omg that's dedication
Okay, when I was in 8th grade, it was drugstore brands all the way! At 51 I have barely started using prestige brands.
“Noxzema girls get noticed”
"Kind of like your thing, but....not" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣Lola cracks me UP!!!!
I’m 19 and I use toothpaste on spots! It works nearly every time
Great video! Love how Lola keeps it simple and enhances her natural beauty ❤️
🙌 Lola! (and love your name too 😊)
Blue mascara was cool at the time although my eyes are dark brown. White liner inside is and was to brighten the whites of your eyes. Can't hurt, especially after a night out! 😁
This brings back so many memories... I cant believe I used that Noxzema crap... LOL 🤣😂🤮
Love from Colorado 🧡🍁🍁
I used Noxema for decades, then suddenly one night I started wheezing seconds after putting it on. In the blink of an eye I became allergic to it - and many other chemicals. I can't walk through half the grocery store because of chemical smells and if a mall vendor tries to squirt anything on me I tell them I will have a deadly asthma attack if they do, to PLEASE stay away! But I loved my Noxema up until then.
Both your expressions toward each other are priceless. "What are you doing?"
Loved this! More comparisons with you two would be great. Especially wardrobes.
I loved this! The daughters look of horror when mom was doing her thing was so funny!
"I learned it on Tik Tok so it must work"
My skin care post 80’s but given my mother’s skincare from 84-89, I definitely used Noxema.
OMG KIM, THAT WAS MY EXACT SAME ROUTINE LOL
I used the clean and clear pads and used zero makeup lol
Clean and clear pads and/or seabreeze in the 90's. God, my face was so red and angry all the time
"I learned it on tiktok so it must work." 😂😂😂
17 comment. This is one of my favorite channels ever.
I’m pro Lola! I’ll happily listen to anything she’s willing to teach me. I have a teenage daughter too and it’s the BEST! Tech support, beauty advice, and reminders not to wave so enthusiastically. 👍🏻
Wet and wild makeup back in the day is still better then the overpriced make up they use today.
Wet N Wild is still a good brand. Their dewy photo focus foundation is amazing.
I'm in high school now and I do exactly what Kim does. Every morning I just put that exact product on my face, no water or anything on before, then just wipe it off with a damp towel. Works like a charm lol.
