A cornea transplant is a surgical procedure during which a trained surgeon replaces a segment of the patient's cornea with a new donor segment.
Eye surgeons perform the procedure on approximately 40,000 patients in the United States annually. The surgery is also called a corneal transplant and keratoplasty.
The telltale sign that a patient requires a cornea implant is that scarring or disease has rendered the cornea incapable of allowing light into the eye properly.

Thank you Dr. Palmer for your information that was both helpful and easy to understand. I just went for new lenses for my glasses and was told I have Fuchs dystrophy. Sent next day to a cornea specialist. He explained and then told me there were 3 choices - explained them - then asked which did I think. I was totally overwhelmed. I do need glasses, and see a halo at night driving but NO OTHER SYMPTOMS. Watching some of these youtube videos are way above the layman's head. Again, you gave information we need to start off with and a way to continue following up on this disease. Thanks.

Does the vision change a lot right after removing all stitches? I have to remove the sutures soon after 1.5 years of transplantation.
