Fun fact: the reason everything is like it is on this ship is because it was converted from a Cruiser I do believe. So they had to cut a bunch off and put the flight deck over everything. Its also a late war Carrier. Made in desperation for a larger Naval air force

Yeah, the Japanese got really desperate for aircraft carriers in late WWII, and they even made the largest one ever at the time only to have it sunk by a submarine only around a day into its first voyage

So the Zuiho class is kinda crazy. they were laid down in 1934-35 as sub tenders with the plan to convert into either carriers or fleet oilers and while the first ship was completed as designed, the second was competed as the aircraft carrier Zuiho with the first being pulled back in for conversion. both were fully commissioned by the end of 1940. Zuiho lasted until 1944 when she was used as a decoy.

In real life airplane would have those sling shot looking lines(forgot the name) on deck so when a plane come in to land the slingshot would catch on the back wheel and helps the pilot slow/stop the plane, though it only for short aircraft carriers
