  • Located in Long Island City, Queens, New York, just across the East River from Manhattan, the massive Ravenswood power generating station supplies more than 20% of the city's power. The generating station, which supplies more than 2,400 megawatts to the city, includes the Ravenswood Unit 40. Backed by GE's 7FA heavy-duty gas turbine, Unit 40 is the largest gas fired plant in the city.
Learn how a GE FlexEfficiency Advantage Advanced Gas Path (AGP) upgrade to Unit 40 helped TransCanada deliver more power, more efficiently and competitively to New York City. Read full customer story: www.gepower.com/case-studies/....

Great to see the generation of reliable electricity 24/7, regardless of the weather, so our refrigerators, hospitals, etc., keep running.

Add the steam turbine / generators to this upgraded system for more efficient outputs, if they really want to pass on savings to the consumers and industries.

It’s surprising to believe that plants and animals are the reason why Manhattan glows

Given that gas turbine exhaust temps are around 1000 deg F, they'd be an excellent heat source for Stirling engines. Stirlings can be very efficient.

That's what a combined cycle plant does, uses the waste heat for an additional steam turbine.

@@gailgrove Thanks, Capt Obvious. Please notice my mention of Stirling engines, which can be much more efficient than steam engines.

why does a foreign corporation own critical energy infrastructure in the US. And isn't this the same company suing the US government over the rejection of the Keystone XL pipeline.

Here in Vermont, the new gas station tank regulations pushed on the U..S. owner. 5 million dollar green new deal gas tanks.. while right down the street 2 India owned gas stations easily avoid any and all local regulations. Not one India owned Store in the state had to put in the 5 million dollar gas tanks Many local owners lost everything over this new regulations.. What's up with that standard... This is how they control gas prices from within the country.. Doesn't take long to research.. .

This unit creates an insane amount of noise pollution for the people who are unlucky enough to live on Roosevelt Island. There's absolutely no protection from the noise the unit emits which is outrageous. It begins @ 6pm and goes for the next 12 hours, how on earth is that legal?? Why does this plant not have to abide by noise pollution policies every single other industry (including the airlines) must? Kallos, where are you on this???
