    One tip for sleeping in a hard shell roof top tent is to park your car so that the direction of the wind is hitting the hard top instead of the fabric sides. It helps to reduce the wind noise since you're up a lot higher than a ground tent.

    Nice setup! I've got a 2021 Crosstrek that I've raised 2" and added all terrain tires and a skid plate. I steer away from the rooftop tents .. they are still tents .. get a cramp at night or have to pee and that ladder becomes a nightmare! I made a bed inside the Crosstrek and sleep in it. Much more secure and your Forester has enough room to do the same. I'm headed for Death Valley in a few days .. good time for there because the temps are perfect. 🤠 Something to add .. an old friend of mine from cycling days use to always carry an empty pistol holster .. never had a gun .. just displayed the holster. She never had a problem.

    Such a beautiful area! I would love to hear more about your favorite camping spots in Oregon and Washington. Funny story, my husband and I camped along the Deschutes over in Maupin. We got there when it was dark. These bright headlights started coming towards us and we were thinking what the hell, there are plenty of other spots, why is this other car setting up near us and shining their headlights into our tent. There was hardly anyone camping out there during the time. The light started getting brighter and brighter… and we were freaking out. It turned out to be a train on the other side of the river. 😅

  • @kimconnollysolocampermarri467
    @kimconnollysolocampermarri467 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I looked at a roof top tent but I just wasn’t confident enough to have to get out of my tent to get into my car if I was afraid. I can’t say that in my travels as a solo female (even though I’m married) that I’ve been in a situation that I was really afraid of humans. I’ve been more afraid of snakes, spiders or mice (I live in Australia) so being in a roof top tent would actually help that. Inspired by you, I did what you’ve done and built in my car but it wasn’t very expensive and I didn’t modify the car. Maybe I’ll look at getting a roof top tent for summer. I follow another guy who does have both inside and roof top and that works for him especially in winter. Thanks for inspiring me to start my own channel - Kim Connolly and for giving me the confidence to travel on my own. I love your work.
