CLIP DESCRIPTION:
After making a getaway from the scene of the heist with the valuable sceptre, Jack Teller (Edward Norton) realizes that Nick Wells (Robert De Niro) was one chess move ahead of him.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Three generations of method acting giants unite for this crime thriller written by Kario Salem and directed by Frank Oz. Robert De Niro stars as Nick Wells, an aging thief whose specialty is safecracking and who is on the verge of retiring to a life of ease, running his jazz club and romancing his girlfriend Diane (Angela Bassett). But before he can ride off into the sunset, Nick is pressured to do one last job by his mentor and business partner, a flamboyant and extravagant upscale fence named Max (Marlon Brando). Max is plotting the heist of the Montreal Customs House, and he's got a man on the inside, Jackie Teller (Edward Norton), a talented but volatile crook who has managed to ingratiate himself with the facility's staff as a fellow employee suffering from cerebral palsy. Jackie bristles at Nick's interference in "his" score, however, and threatens violence when it seems he's going to be cut out of the action. In the meantime, Nick grows increasingly ill at ease about the operation, as it violates his two most important dictums in thievery: always work alone and never pull a job in your own city. The part of Max in The Score was written specifically for Brando by screenwriter Salem, although the improvisational star and his director Oz reportedly clashed during filming.

Sure is. This and Heist with Gene Hackman. Two great movies. Also notable mention Matchstick Men.
It was probably overshadowed by Ocean's Eleven, which was released in the same year.
similar to Blue Streak...Blue Streak and The Score are great heist movies !! Movies were great in the late 90s and early 2000s..
It's not really underrated for the absolute star power they put into it. I expected more.
It's a mediocre movie with a really great ending.
I remember watching this in the theater and when he said "Ok bye bye." the entire room erupted into applause. So good.

@@CoCotheTurtle that's what I was just going to ask the guy who started the thread cuz i snuck into this movie with a friend when i was 15 after seeing Space Cowboys i think(another underappreciated Gem imo) and the theater was pretty empty like the room had a echo empty which is a shame cuz this film really is underappreciated but ive done my best to spread the word but i didn't hear anything when De Niro said Buh Bye but i did smile though
de Niro is legendary.. He is just one of the few actors that you see and actually believe in his role...

Greatest actor ever easily
I don't know about greatest actor ever, but he fits this role very well. His character is believable as that character, unlike some major actors who basically just play themselves in every role. He's legendary, but his range isn't that amazing.
DeNiro saying, "Ba Bye" to Norton whose Brian was using it the whole movie was priceless

Edward Norton should have received an Oscar in American History X. I am sure plenty of people would agree. He was on fire when that movie was released.

The Score is one of my favorite films that I never get tired of. It doesn't have a great story but the setting in Montreal and his nightclub adds a lot to the film. The actors are perfect in their roles and the Customs House heist was a great ending.
I agree --- but to be totally honest Norton was the best actor in this movie --- he outshined De Niro

IF he was able to get that far with sirens decending...even boarding that bus, there was a good chance it would have been either delayed, or stopped and searched..
This movie was amazing. A couple of years ago, my son and I were standing in the same spot as Ed Norton and I showed him this scene. So satisfying.

Nick was right with his advice for Jack. Nick is a professional doing heists for 25 years. Jack was a rookie who got greedy and tried to double-cross a professional and lost everything.
Jack accepted De Niro's terms early on. Then had a major strop in the middle of the heist. No honor among thieves.
Robert DeNiro is a legend! Best scene in the entire movie :o) I always knew at the beginning of the switch that DeNiro would not punk out like that. He saw the double cross coming and so he did a triple cross.

He's a professional but forgets to check the bag! Reminds me of the London Hatton heist, the masterminds brought there own car to the robbery 😂
With the alarms going off and guards closing in it probably didn't cross his mind, especially after Deniro very reluctantly refuses to hand it over, that's what most likely made him believe he had the real scepter. Great move on Deniro's part.

I always liked that DeNiro let Norton get away in the end. There was an animosity but also a kind of respect they had for each other. Norton's character thought DeNiro was a legend who was past his prime while DeNiro KNEW Norton was a massively talented thief with an even more massive ego. I like to think that Norton's character learned from this and became a more professional thief.
I kinda wished Jack won. Max and Nick were really taking advantage of him and paying him peanuts.
@@mbucd Max was the biggest hustler. Nick wanted to be paid what would take care of his life he wouldn't have to keep stealing. Max was taking houses in Montreal and Bermuda, owed a gangster we never saw and was probably in debt.

And Jack's (Norton) share out of that was in the thousands. Not even 1 million.
Despite the fact he did most of the planning and took on most of the risk.
Max and Nick were completely taking advantage of him.

Max in the pool scene that he had not paid him fairly for past jobs. Yet he stood by
and watched Max treat Jack the very same way. Nick and Max were both selfish characters which is why I didn't really like either of them.
If you paid attention during this movie, you would just barely see that fake scepter that Norton has used in the planning/practice so it was even more meaningful when it's revealed here.

I watched this in the theater back in 2001 and man this was a fun swerve! Bad part was after Nick reunited with Diane, the local theater put in a blurb stating Nick was later caught and is now serving time in federal penitentiary.
Ah yes! The movie with exactly one musical cue! I remember it well!
In the scene where they're in Nick's shop going over the safe schematics, Jack actually puts his hand on that pipe thing to move it. I just recently noticed and thought it was awesome foreshadowing. Great movie!
When he made the switch and tricked him in the end I thought that was great. Don't try to fool the master.

Whats funny is when DeNiro is showing Norton the safe in his shop, you see the tie rod on the workbench. I didn't notice that until the 5th time watching the movie

Nick tried to showJack that you can steal without making noise in the moment. He had slow and steady approach to getting the things he wanted. Jack wanted it all right now and was opportunistic and maybe didnt want end up like Nick all.alone still stealing.
One heck of a movie, was very shocked and satisfied in the end. He for sure got an ego check. Also a tremendous amount of similarities to Inception.
Anyone likes the score on The Score? Well composed music, I must say.
I came here and clicked on this clip, having not seen the movie in over 15 years. When Norton goes to unzip his scepter bag, I could have sworn I heard strains of "Lord of the Rings" music...and sure enough...same guy. You get that a lot with John Williams movies that he scored...I think they recycle and re-work themes...use old pieces not used in one film for another...I'm talking about movies that they do that come out close together. I noticed in on the movie "The Package", which is really a proto movie for "The Fugitive"...
The many similarities between the movie The Heist with Gene Hackman and The Score with Robert De Niro, for example.....both dealt with Gold from France..both started out with a Jewelry theft..both had a Van that was transformed with magnetic sign disguises..both were filmed on location in Canada..both films had actor Mark Camacho in the cast..the Score had a fake septer that resemble the pipe Gene Hackman swung at Sam Rockwell.....Hackman's character was equal to DeNiro's..also these two movies were full of doublecrosses.

What made Bassett's and De Niro's relationship so believable in this movie is that my man Bob likes that dark meat in real life. He has jungle fever. He never has been able to shake it.

One of my favorite movies...in every way.

You know Nick was just waiting to use that "Okay, bye bye" line on Jack. Days, no, weeks of anticipation for when he'd get to pull that out. I can't even imagine how satisfying that was for him.
DeNiro knew they might be a double cross with Norton. Thats the only reason he would have broght the fake sephter with him on the heist.
How about if he sold that pipe and bought a lottery ticket? 🤣🤣
Deniro the Godfather of movies. Top lesson in an heist. Never screw with the daddy.
He better hope Ace doesn't get caught. He could rat out Brando's character and that could leak down to Deniro. Brando should try to track Ace down and waist him.

The Score isn't that kind of movie where the partners kill each other to protect themselves. De Niro isn't worried because there is no physical evidence to link him to the crime after he sells the scepter.
