I agree with you about the box. Needed to be thicker to allow a counter tray. I have done 4 playthroughs (lost my first tank and crew in the first combat round due fire and bad die rolls). BTW the Sequence of play on the back of the rules has errors, as do several other areas. There are updates on BGG or in the Facebook group. 37:00 For your first shot I you needed to spend a Command to Rotate your turret first. This action (a pretty important one!) was omitted from the Chart 🙄 but added to the errata. You also need to check where you hit and compare your penetration with the values on the enemy chit before the damage roll. In this instance your penetration value of 7 is greater than any of the 3 enemy target values, so it's a moot point, but sometimes you will only equal the value, which is a different column on the B3 chart. i.e. a regular M4 with the 75mm would not have penetrated. Looking forward to further episodes.
Where did you get the part about rotating the turret? When I checked the rules I was sure that ABC can be hit with the turret pointed forwards while only D/E need to have it rotated. Is that only listed in the errata? Sometimes that might cause problems as errata can be posted after I have already filmed. I'll have to make a note on the follow on videos as they have already been filmed at this point. Still it is a fun game that I have enjoyed my time with.
@@thegimpygamer Rules Page 12 section A Fire at Target. 3rd Paragraph: "A turret facing forward can only hit targets in Area B. Facing left can hit targets in A and D; Facing Right can hit targets in Areas C and E"
That is not quite correct, changing the turret direction is a free action if you also fire the main gun after turning, but, it also means that you can only fire once with main gun and coaxial. So you can change turret direction, fire main gun, reload (all in one action) and then for example fire the 50 cal or reload ready rack.
With a counter tray mine was about 1/4 inch over full. I really enjoy this game though. Right up there with silent victory like you said. Thanks Gimpy!
I do like your idea about infantry moving up into Panzerfaust range. Perhaps rolling 1d6 vs the INF Morale, if successful they close range. It would be another level of bookkeeping but at the same time, add more incentive to take out INF. The game is already pretty well balanced. Great game!
Awaiting my copy as we speak. Loved Western Front Ace so am assuming I’ll love this too. Still awaiting my preorder for The Hunters and Silent Victory. Thanks a ton for the video and or your service devil dog. My biggest question is….. Is that a homemade USMC dice tower or can you buy em. Feel like any former Marine wargamer should have this ha ha!!
You can buy them but not entirely sure where. I'll check it to see if there are any makers markings. It was a gift from Moe at Moe's Game Table so he might know.
Another quick question for you. Where did you get your dice tower? I've been trying to track one down for the Army. It'd be great if it displayed the 3rd Infantry division patch on it as well.
This one is on my radar but I've since found out that there is talk about Compass release a British Tank Ace along with German and Soviet to form a larger series. In lieu of these potential releases I may hang fire as some of what I've read indicates I'd be waiting a while for a reprint at this stage anyway.
I can guarantee British Tank Ace as the designer already promised me a copy so I know that one is in the works. Logistically speaking it would be the better bet as the kinks will have been worked out from ATA
@@thegimpygamer Ok cool. I’ll look online. I’m new to wargaming and looking for other solitaire type games like American Tank Ace. How do you go about learning the rules without being overwhelmed? It seems I get overwhelmed sometimes trying to learn these games and want to give up. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks for the videos.
@bswindle71 I get feeling overwhelmed at time, but trust me if I can do it anyone can. I have a brain injury that has severely impacted my memory so learning these games is a chore and a half. It can be done though. Here's what I tend to do. I'll read the rules once. Just the rules alone without the game out. Then I'll read the rules again with the game out in front of me. This allows me to piece together everything I read the first time. After that I set it up and play a little of it, or follow the example of play to understand how the mechanics all work together. All that tends to get me where I need to be.
I use the Oregan laminate clipper. Works great. Used it for years. Oregon Lamination Premium 2mm Radius Deluxe Corner Punch Cutter Rounder a.co/d/bmKNzdb
Thanks for such a fast response. I just learned about this game and ordered it, just not sure when it'll get here. I've been bouncing between The Hunters and Western Front Ace.@@thegimpygamer
@darrenf9965 I don't remember specifically since it's been a long while since I have filmed this. If I remember correctly then the turret could hit things at a bit of a angle and didn't have to be directly pointing at A,B,C, to hit. Like it could point at C and still hit B & D in its cone. Don't quote me because I could be wrong since like I said it's been a long time since I recorded this.
Not much of a gripe but wishing the pieces on the boards had a bit more contrast from the boards. You sometimes have a good number of counters in play and it gets easy to miss them, knock them off the maps and such. Again, not a huge deal but some differential between the the map colors and some of the counters would be helpful. Great game though!!
I'm starting Beneath de Med, and this system got a lot in common. Thank you for sharing
Designed by the same guy.
Thanks for the review Nate. I'm enjoying this game as well. Silent Victory and Beneath the Med are diving for cover with this one in the running. :)
Great video. Entertaining. Very helpful re: understanding the nature of the game and how to play. Thanks.
Having a lot of fun with this one. Thanks Gimpy for the video. 🙌🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Real fun. Agree. I may like this better than all my solitaire games- subs-planes-PT's-destroyers. Tanks Compass!!!!

Yea its not too much but it really does need to be bigger. Publishers should always put a counter tray into their box as a test fit.
@@thegimpygamer Better yet include it with games 😊

Isn't the turret supposed to angle towards who you're shooting
Just asking

In the first attack turn you couldn't fire at the STUG IV because you forgot to rotate the turret
