When my daughter saw me beardless for the first time (she was 5) she burst into tears! Then she said ‘It’s okay Daddy, you can shave it back on again!’

My wife of one year, at the time, had never seen me without my full beard as I’d had it about five years and we’d only known each other a year before we got married. One night after she’d already gone to bed I decided to trim my beard a little. However, I’d forgotten to put the guard on, so with my first pass I shaved a bare strip down my cheek and under my chin. I realized the only thing to do was complete the job and shave off my beard. I then went to crawl into bed, forgetting the fact my wife had never seen me clean shaven. She thus woke up to this “stranger” getting into bed next to her. I imagine her scream woke most of our neighbors. Thankfully, she didn’t die from the fright.
.....and my neighbours are probably hearing my laughter right now.....Thanks for this story...😂😂😂

When the daughter put the mom on the spot and asked her “do you still like him” not do you like “it” I died inside for her because you can tell that the wife prefers the beard. Kids are ruthless.

Kids can be ruthless even though they are innocent and aren’t always aware of it. Unfiltered, no mercy, raw, brutal, etc. Pick a word that applies for you and keep it moving. The answer is not to try to point out or control other people’s words when you don’t like it. We won’t always agree and life goes on😉.

My dad always had a beard and one day shaved it.. it was freaky- he looked younger and like a completely different person- just hair! Wow. Flash back 40 years 😂 wow thank you for that reminder.❤ He’s gone 35 years now and I can still remember the shock and giggles - blessing ❤
In all the videos I've seen of Dad's shaving their beards, it is almost always their daughters who seem to have the strongest reaction! Their sons seem less affected by the change.

Its always a shock ! But he looks nice. My husband had a beard it was a shock when he removed it when my daughter was quite young. It was like going to bed with a strange man🤣. It scared our one nephew!
Way better looking with facial hair. More trimmed for sure, but I think ALL men benefit from facial hair. Super sexy too when it's well taken care of

I'm sure his wife will encourage him to do so. Some women prefer facial hair on their dudes. Personally I think he looked better with it. Just needed to get it shaped.

I think the beard was older than her.
We had a coworker that had long hair and a full beard . One day at work there was this new guy that was clean shaved , and nice haircut . We didn’t realize it was him at first , took us all a good 15 min till we realized it was him . He got cleaned up for a wedding he was standing up in !!!
He probably found a bride of his own at that wedding.
I can remember going in a store with my dad, he was around 37 at the time, had big beard. The woman politely said, such a cute young man out for the day with his grandpa, oh it warms my heart. He laughed an told her i was his son, he wasn't old enough for that yet. He went straight home and shaved.
Awesome he did that for a great cause. Hope that little guy got his wheelchair.

My mom had a friend from her church who did a similar thing. His kids had never seen him without his beard and his wife had barely seen him without it (she saw him at a party six months before they started dating; he grew a beard in between). He looked drastically different without the beard. One weekend, the wife and kids went away and the husband shaved off his beard. When the wife and kids came home, he walked down the front path from the house to greet them. The wife went into shock and the kids started screaming. He started growing back the beard not long after that.

I had a friend whose father had a very long beard for most of his adult life.…I would say it was probably about a good 20 inches long. He decided to shave it one day just to see how it felt. When he came into the house my friends baby sister looked at him and started crying and tried to run out the house…Lol.
I had a Goatee for the first 18 months of my first daughter‘s life. She cried and was scared of me when I woke her up from a nap after shaving it off. She trusted my eyes, but didn’t like the lower 1/2 of my face.

I’ve worn a full beard for over 50 years, in that time I’ve has 1 shave, one Christmas Day I got up early and shaved as a Christmas surprise, my kids were young and when they saw me they cried. My Wife didn’t notice until the kids pointed it out, she had known me clean shaven for a few years before I stopped shaving. The family at Christmas dinner were unanimous that I grow it back.
Most important thing is he did this for a good cause… to help a child who needed help… his beard will grow back… if he wants. I personally would grow it back… starting right at that moment… I don’t ever see me taking my beard off completely again… I’d miss it…🧔🏻🎅🏻🧔🏻
I remember when I was 12 and saw my dad without his beard for the first time. It was uncanny - momentarily terrifying.

Whenever my dad shaved he’d let us kids pick his beard style for a day before clean shaving. Awesome memories. 🤘🏻

When you have longer hair and cut it short, it also looks weird at first, but then you get used to it and actually like how you look.
I had the same reaction when my husband shaved off his full mountain man beard, I begged him to grow it back.😂 eventually he grew it back.

I am 68 years old and I started growing my beard in 1977. I cut it off in 1999 and my kids reaction was very similar. Kept it shaved for 6 months and have a bead ever since. Fun video.
Some random guy on the street asked me if dinner was still at 5pm at the shelter. I said yep and kept going. Without the beard I wouldve got mugged.😂

Those reactions are definitely normal when it's been years since anyone has seen you look any different. I will buzz mine short every now and then but I hadn't done a full shave in years. I decided to once and I was told I looked stupid and too young lol. I wasn't mad. I couldn't disagree! Even seeing myself I was like yeah no... It will likely be years before I do so again lol

One of my earliest memories is when I was four and my mother came home with a drastically different hairstyle. I ran outside to great her and ran back inside.
I remember when my dad shaved his beard off. Nobody warned me he was going to do that. I just woke up one morning, went to get some breakfast and some strange man came into my kitchen.
Now he looks normal again and 20 years younger.👍

I remember being a kid and waking up one morning with my dad, sitting on my bed side, looking at me, and when I woke up, I saw his face and I promise you I did not freak out, but my mind do a blank because I could not recognize the man that I was looking at. I knew my dad‘s voice and his eyes look similar, but he had no beard and no mustache and I wondered what on earth is a strange guy doing sitting on my bed, asking me if I recognized him I can laugh about it now, but back then it seems so strange.

Back when I was preschool age or younger (1973ish), the company my Dad worked for decided that male employees needed to be shaven. My Dad had 70's side burns and a massive mustache. I'd never seen him clean shaven. I liked watching him shave what little he did shave but one morning when I toddled into the bathroom, I didn't know who that was in there! I ran out of the room, screaming for my Mom. It took nearly an hour before I believed he was my Dad. It's literally my earliest memory.

I had an uncle that lost a bet , he was suppose to shave his face completely but he only trimmed it. His kids wouldn’t have recognized him if he had it completely taken away. He had grown it since the Bi centennial. My dad had one but both he and my mom didn’t like it so he shaved it.

Had an uncle. Clean shaven his whole work life till he suddenly went blind in his 50s. He didn't want to bother with shaving his face and let his beard grow out. In a year he had the santa clause small white beard. Then it grew a lot over the years. Then when he had to be rushed to the hospital and things went from bad to worse, they had to shave him so they could do a tracheotomy where they put a hole in your neck to help you breathe and when I got to the hospital that day it was quite the shock. He passed several days later sadly.

My dad shaved his beard off at Christmas when I was 30 & then picked up my brother and me from the bus station. We had no idea who he was. Without the beard, he looked just like his uncle (that he never liked) so he grew the beard back.
