- FV4005 Restoration Project Part 2
The plan is to get this hull running, driving and tested before we fit the huge turret.
We will investigate the main engine’s smoking issue at a later date.

How cool must it be to have a spare Mark III Centurion chassis lying around. You guys truly live the dream.
yeah and drop the turrent on that tank over there and we have a few over there and etc etc 😂
Right! he said it so nonchalant like it was an old ford or land rover
if you like this, you'll love this - these guys will actually rebuild you what ever you can afford - use salvaged parts or remake them to highest standard with all the correct markings - maybe that there Mr Hewes should take a visit - Australian Armour just done a visit there and you should check there channel too - amazing work on all fronts

rather him than me :)
( see previous video) I believe this is a one recovered from Catterick ..
I had no idea about Mr Hewes until I donated to the appeal last week. Rest assured I have been catching up.
Legend
I love how everything is so matter of fact. These guys work quite hard to avoid appearing to be the professionals they obviously are. A perfect example of Britain at its best.
AW Hewes is a fantastic channel. Tanks, trucks and plant machinery with tonnes of banter.
@@PeteCourtier Being a tank nut, it's the tanks that drew me in.
I had a runaway tractor engine today. Thanks to this channel I knew how to take a co2 extinguisher to stop it. Thanks guys.
Did you throw the extinguisher at the engine?
@@Rover200Power brilliant!
Poked it into the fanbelt and stopped the turbo@@Rover200Power
🤣🤣
@@knusern666I expected a different way XD
Love how the tank museum has made you sound really posh AW Hewes and not a few nutcases on TH-cam. Epic project, which I'm sure will generate lots of traffic your way
literally how every museum works and worked like in the past.
You think museums have money to give it to some guys who have 0 passion and are professionally overqualified or use government funded stuff?
No no... Couse case 1 would be too expensive and case 2 would last 20 years.
In experience of my uncle, working steam locomotives: We all did ourselves. Just us a bunch of loonies, volunteering and minimum investment, searching donors, learning to steel mill items out and weld.
These guys, may be bunch of youtube loonies but they deffo show project passion :D
@SamuelBenedicic_of_NSK it's satire..
With Ted planning, working the project and keeping you all in line. It's going to be a good one.
20000 grand won't go very far on thar resto?
@andrewfreer5797 believe in Ted. He works wonders and finds reconditioned, and parts thrown out by the army. He also has contacts in scrap yards.
You underestimate his project skills!
@@gavin1506 business is business got to pay the boys rent tools make a wee bit to fund other projects.
@andrewfreer5797 who says that's what they are getting? It's only put on TH-cam.
If the boys make some pennies from it and TH-cam.... that's their business not mine. I just support as best I can. I wstch TH-cam, turn up to shows they do... and buy merch that I like. Ain't no point complaining about costs here.
I need more of that crane, that video was so so good I love that little thing, how you got it running amazes me.
🤣
@ScrappyIndustries just found a similar one
Salvage Workshop over in the US picked one up about a year ago they're still working to get running (when time and parts allow).
Awesome, Ted got a promotion! Well deserved, Ted, you're a good boy!
This is going to be a great project. Already waiting for the next episode.
Guys i can HONESTLY say this is probably the BEST VIDEO TO DATE !!
Excellent! Love the fact you guys know what your doing and there's not a single unnecessary Hi-Viz or hard hat anywhere!!
Jack was wearing gloves, I think he’s on the turn.
9:42 I like to think Ted is a reincarnated tank captain from years gone by.. lol he just looks so happy and at home perched upon a tank!
My old commander Chatty Taylor who has sadly departed, was a Tank museum legend. He would have been very excited about this project.
Sorry to hear that. He was known as xxxx me Taylor to us guys. Definitely a character.
And they say the youth of today are lazy. Your knowledge and skill is amazing and shows those comments are misplaced
Mint, we're not on fire and you gotta love those two filthy thumbs up!
Thank you all, Joe, Jack, Adam and Seb of course, not forgetting Ted. I am old retired and more than a little broken but I do love watching your videos :)
Bro forgot seb 💀
my father who is 92 worked on the centurion when he did his national service in REME in the early 1950's I'm going to show him this video . I use to build the chieftain bridge layer and the CET at the Royal ordnance factory Nottingham . keep up the great work
I worked on Chieftain AVLB as an A Mech during some of my time. And the dreaded CET ;-(
@@beargritter7618you ought to have tried building them fabricating that body was bad enough 😮
Great video and music. Glad those remote mics are working a treat :)
Good to see Ted paying close attention to getting things done safely by those quality magic workers.
You boys must be getting like an F1 team pulling those engines and gearboxes by now!
Love how Ted rolls his eyebrows. 😂😂. This is going to be so much fun to watch. 😊
Ted reminds me of Grommet from Wallace and Grommet.
What a project 👍😎 A big thanks for taking the time to explain what’s being done & why, highly appreciated 👍
No problem 👍
You need to add some Ted the project manager merchandise to your shop.😉👍
I believe there's a chap called Dietmar (I think his name is), who works at Bovington and would be worth contacting. He originates from what was once East Germany, and is an expert on Soviet-originated tanks that he served on when he was in the East German military. He might be of help with the T-34 engine (and overall) rebuild...
And the amazing Polish Panzer Farm shown on Aus Armour. They are doing amazing restorations.
Thanks!
The SH*T BARN cometh! Excellent work as always and a very worthy project. Nice Job there Ted keeping it all running smooth.
As Mr Jingles would say, “Swiggity swoogity, I’m gonna get some of that Sh*tbarn booty!” Glad to see a real one getting some love and restoration!
So, the Mk III was produced 1948-56, meaning that yours is at least 67 years old. Perhaps over 70 years old. And you've effectively just performed open heart surgery on the old girl. You and Jack never stop astounding me. I just hope that when you get at the cylinders that they're in better shape than those of the T34.
Being British, you'd expect them to be, but I guess only time will tell. 😊😊😊❤❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊
Man o man Joe, these great videos just keep getting better and better! The content, the editing, the music, the lighting, the sound, it’s all high caliber stuff. The only down side I see is you can’t make em faster than I can watch em. Much thanks for all!!! 😃👍🏻👍🏻🛠🔧🧰⚙️👏🏻👏🏻
First time I've heard you use the word 'safety' and mean it! Silly place for a fuel tank.
Gaijin should also sponsor you guys. As a WT player, this is still an absolute W
Gaijin has an allergic reaction to anything involving Brits, sadly. Hence the state of the UK tech tree
It's looking like a lot of long days, good going guys and Jack
all i can say is wow you guys have the most wonderful life, i love what you do, don't change a thing just keep having fun best wishes 😇
So exited for this series!
Amazing progress. Jack seems to be taking it very serious. Either way we'll done guys n Ted keep it up. Poor T34 on the back burner
Your content just keeps getting better and better
Great videos, looking forward to seeing this project progress, the final result should look great.
All good in the Leicestershire hood. It's a good job Jack is a midget to get in those awkward spaces. Also loving the obligatory cut down spanner. How I wish I was still in Cov so I could nip down and lend you all a bit of time helping out.
Ted did a GREAT job.
The music on this video is brilliant!!!
Hull looks to be in fair condition, nice work
Nice to see Ted on the forklift....supervising the work...
Great work, thanks for sharing, wot , wot 👌💨💨
Full refurb will be worth it. Cheers
Wonderful project. Will be a thing of beauty when complete.
Top man Ted, good tunage too😎
hi Mr Hewes, hope you are going to whip those oil bath air cleaners in to shape ! good luck.looks like the dog was in charge.
Love this tank if World of Tanks, saw this project.. Had to subscribe.
Thank God for the project manager Ted, at least we know someone knows what they’re doing!😂 Super big project, looking good
Bril!. Love Teds supervisory skills!. 🤣 Great vid. Nuff said.
I can see this going several ways, Mr Hewes doing the hull and the Tank Museum doing the turret. Do a good job on the hull guys.
Great being able to hear what you are saying, better lights too it seems.
Good job on the FV4005 this is one of my favorite tanks that the British had. This also makes me wanna play with it in war thunder. Keep up the good work hope it goes as planned and be safe!
Great video...I liked the music too..
10:05 I hope Ted is forklift certified
He is forklift level expert
I see Ted is keeping a watchful eye. Good boy Ted!!
I cannot believe how good you all are at doing this work. It was a stretch for me to do a cylinder head gasket on a Vauxhall Corsa. Now on the edge of 70, I wish I could still do it. You either have machinery in your blood, or you don't. Keep them going Ted!!
A comment that might be of use to you. Austria’s national army museum had. Number of ex Austrian army MK 3 Cents. I know this because we were using them in 1973 as armoured OP’s at 1 RHA and much to REME’s displeasure these tanks were taken from us for sale to the Austrian’s. Therefore, that museum may well know of the location of parts and spares. I last saw them in the museum about six years ago and there were a group of about five at the Vienna Arsenal most of which is now an industrial estate.
It is a good museum well worth a visit and has the best exhibition of the
Falschirmveiger (parachutists) you are likely to find. They also have an excellent room devoted to the Archduke Ferdinand with bit of paraphernalia full of blood and bullet holes! Oh! Did you know they had battleships? There are some excellent models. Worth a flight and a short stay!
Isn't the one that got nuked there?
@@davidty2006 There were no notices to that effect! They were all outside at that time. There was also a large open barn of artillery including many muzzle loaders some in bronze or gunmetal and they had been struck, presumably by solid shot of their day which had smeared the metal in the area of the impact. One forgets how devastating old black powder artillery was.
It's good to see you restoring/rebuilding a lost part of the Tank History, for the Tank Museum display I assume, perhaps they will run it sometimes.
fantastic to see she's is getting the right hull, keep up the great work in making her right
It truly warms my heart to see my favorite vehicle from a video game, not only still existing, but also being given new life again. You guys are awesome for this. I'd love to do this kind of work someday.
I like the new whistleindiesel camera shots of you pulling a face and doing mad stuff lol. Think you should definitely start smashing stuff up with them tanks for a few million subs 😂. Like the new tunes to bit of mood. What's the tune while lifting engine out I like it. 👍
Haha 😂 maybe so!
the link for that is in the description
Great stuff. Absolutely bolted to this story. (they dont use rivets in tanks)
Looks like another awesome project. Can't wait to see how you lift that massive turret. Keep up the good work gents.
just discovered your channel ,such enthusiasm , youth , guts and talent to get the job done ,without hi vis and hard hats . Your my new tank heroes .
Good luck , and l hope " project manager "Ted keeps you all under control
As always i ADORE all every video you guys do it's always nice to watch people work on machinery like this.
Have you ever thought about the likes of a gantry in your workshop to help with lifting so you don't need that little forklift?
I will buy one one day but they are very expensive
i saw one of these in an old tv show called Combat from the 60's and saw one of these hitting a town. Wondered what it was as looks like a lot of modern artillery pieces. thanks for putting this up, now i know what it was and what to look for.
that engine sounds majestic
Found you guys after donating to the FV4005 fund. Awesome work you guys are doing. Can’t wait to see how it turns out. 🤟🏻
One of a VERY few channels that as I watch the latest video...I'm wishing that if I go back to 'videos' there will magically be another...
You guys are GREAT!😁
👍🇺🇸😎
Your discription of what is going on and what is planned is invaluable to us "normal" people who have never dismantled a tank or even seen one in action. So the audio is not boring. it ties the video together nicely. Many thanks.
Excellent work and sound needs another 2hour of film keep it coming 👌
This is an amazing project Joe
And Jack is clearly overworked and underappreciated
Nice effort
There's certainly enough there to keep even the Most industrious type Busy for a while 👍👍
Smashing stuff I am impressed very much with your skills, and you have given me the confidence to tackle repairs myself ,but not on a level like you are doing great stuff.
Really impressed with the amount of work you fellas get through, plus , having a dog in urban camouflage is a great advert for your company
again another brilliant video. Obviously Ted’s steady influence is starting to show. Love how he was supervising your fork truck driving. If he needs an assistant I have a springer spaniel who would be SUCH a help! 😂
I wish I could restore tanks like you do.
I don't even know if it's legal to own a tank in my country
That's sad, in the US they actually shoot the cannon. Have you seen the guy who drives his tank around London to wind up the mayor? Many years ago a guy bored out the gun in the UK and licenced it as a smooth bore shotgun. I doubt you can do that now 🤣
ditto, though i reckon the primary reason why no one has bought a tank in indonesia is more because it's pricy as hell to own and maintain rather than legality. after all, to your average indonesian businessman, why get a tank when you can get a villa in Bali? it's less of a legal landmine, and it's a villa in Bali!
For britain main condition is the guns to not be operational.
Though for road running theres even more regulations.
@@davidty2006 i know; that one's mainly because steel tracks can easily fuck asphalt up, especially on heavier tanks and MBTs, so they have to at least use rubber track pads.
the laws in indonesia are gray at best outside of "no guns unless you have a permit", and our gun laws are so strict the only "gun" store you'd find are ones for sport/recreational (airsoft/paintball). airguns are rare.
Who cares about the law? You'll have a tank.
Just keep going on with your marvelous job 👍👍👍
You lads are amazing and always cheerful just a pleasure to watch and good humour plus your mechanical skills are amazing
The Foden is my favourite truck.😊😊😊😊😊😊
Man, I am legitimately excited for this project.
Great video with some really nice overview of the tanks internals.
Ted is great. Well done all.
Enjoyed the explanation of all the inner workings of the Centurion and looking forward to future videos in the series.
Between this and the t-34 i just cant wait for the next video. I wish whole seasons came out at once so i could binge watch 😊
Thank you Joe that was fascinating to hear the info. I knew most of it but to have it confirmed helped. :)
Good to see Ted managing such an important project.
I was thinking that was a v rare engine where one bank could be switched off (in my defence I worked with an outboard engine that cut two cylinders at slow speed, rough as old boots it was) but then I thought it was an early test for exhaust gas circulation. Good work Ted, excellent supervision, keep them on their toes and keep doing what you do best.
thank you very much for good entertainment. 👍🤗👍🇸🇯
Contributed to this. Absolutely superb project and looking forward to completion and seeing it up and running. Glad Bov is outsourcing the job it cos it would take a lifetime otherwise.
Another great video boys! My hats off to you for taking on this huge project, I like how you are making it exactly how it should be. Patiently awaiting the next installment on this. 🇬🇧🇺🇸
Ted, The Tank Evaluation Dog, doing expert work as usual.
Top bombing lads, progressing nicely under the watchful eye of Ted... I don't want to blow smoke up your arse, but I can't think of a better bunch of lads to restore Spud, now get a wiggle on, I am attending Tankfest next year and will be expecting to see Spud 'hossing' round the arena 👍🏻😁
Thank you!
Du lourd ce projet les gars ! Comme ça tourelle et son canon ! Sa fume sa ronronne 👌👌!.. je vous dit merde pour la suite 🤙
Now this project , is very cool !!!!!!!!!!!!
wow love this....thank you so much...cheers
Great project, thanks for explaining it
Awesome video thanks lads very much appreciated 🇬🇧
Cool to see this being restored, saw it myself last year, sad to see it in such a state
Very nice video, thanks.
