I feel the opposite but it’s nothing against him really. I think as I’m having more years of mock drafts under my belt I realize it’s sort of pointless and just am annoyed till the draft. Personal preference though. Can see how some love it

Forget all these guys. Mel Kiper is a LEGEND. He's responsible for much of the marketing and intrigue that touches millions of fans every March & April. He helped make the NFL Draft an event. He started it all.

@@CarreraTrackOntheFloorAgreed, CBS did a good report on last 15 years and only 21% of 1st rounders end up solid or better. That means on average we should expect 1 to 2 of these names succeed only. With all these names I wish the Bears would be open to taking McCarthy or Nix with Harrison/Naber/Odunze and Verse by trading down. But everyone says Caleb is going to change our franchise so I will wait and see. He looks great so far at college speed...

Quality on quality. That's why I tune in. Pound-for-pound way better than ESPN anything.
This is the part that stumps me and I am asking this in earnest. I understand that QB is the most important position in NFL football. However, with it also being the most unpredictable (even Mel Kiper admits there is no through line) why do experts (and I say that with no irony at all. I recognize they know more about this than I) why do NFL teams use first round picks on them? It would seem to me first round picks would be used for those players where there is a through line, players that scouts have the most confidence in and are at positions that are easier to predict. You can always use 3rd, 4th, even second round picks to select perhaps a couple of QBs, put them in that quarterback room and find out who sticks without leveraging so much in them on Draft Day.
There is going to be some Penix envy among teams that pass on Michael. He's a BALLER. Check in a couple years to see who really was the best QB in this draft.

Strongly depends what kind of QB you're looking for in your system. E.g. McCarthy could end up being a perennial pro bowler in Kevin O'Connell's system

Mel is the best. He has been doing it for decades and is on top of the players every single year. He may miss on his mock draft, but compared to other fakes, he is the best. He used to not change his picks even with certain trades, but now he has adjusted. But player background and tape evaluation, he is with the best of the best.
ESPN audio techs must be spoiling Mel with their work.

2020 and 2021 mad Mel was the best, last couple have been too unnatural but those years were GOLD
Clausen,J. Russell, Stanzi, Wilson. Kiper is always all over the place with QBs. QB is the one area I ignore kiper on.
Maybe unfair to Bryce Young, but I think Carolina would swap him out for Williams in a heartbeat.
Yeah, Young's O line sucked, but Caleb Williams has some bigtime hype coming out of college.
Could be better than Lawrence, and on par with Burrow. I highly doubt Young gets to that level, ever.

This is IEXACTLY why it takes chemistry with every player. QB , coach , team .......I wouldn't bet the farm on ANY QB .....you're risking your teams future . Wait until you figure your team out first , then get your QB ...
Watch Caleb Williams be a HOF. I don’t personally see it but he clearly has something that makes him #1 material according to these analysts.

every draft I hear the same comments from all these draft experts - "This is the most fascinating draft ever".
Stopped listening when be said JJ didn't have a great arm," while everyone else has said his arm is elite.
I get Daniels had an incredible 2023 and Maye had a step back year, but the nitpicking of Maye and the glossing over Daniels' flaws is hard to listen to.
It'll show, quickly. When JD doesn't have 2 WRs that are leaps and bounds better than the competition he's going to look very pedestrian.

Penix Jr mid 2nd to early 3rd. This draft is top heavy in talent and thats gonna make his value go down too along with limitations and health history. In title game, he really couldn't take the hits and it showed in his performance. NFL every team has top talent, not just title game

As bright as Mel Kiper is I am boggled and surprised that he never mentioned Drake Maye's worst tendency. One of the most important things a QB must have is good footwork on every drop back but got away with it on some occasions! That is always the first thing analysts pick when talking about QB's ability to throw with timing consistently! Go watch Justin Fields in 2023 and try to figure out why he didn't find the open receiver as often as he should have when looking of the #1 in his progressions..

The Panthers would certainly trade Bryce Young for Caleb Williams. Not even close. Young may not be a bust yet, but Caleb has a much higher ceiling.
