*What should be on the list of first upgrades? And any suggestions for naming it?*
6’ traxtech track, Trollmaster for your kicker, garmin force kracken. The 1st gen force takes up too much space for mounting and pull cord is hard to use close quarters.
@@pleutgebThank you!!! All added to the list!!
Name the boat after the baby.
What a great find! Mint condition. Sky is the limit with rigging and Im sure you’ll get plenty of tips. I’m just admiring those colors and the big I.O.
Thanks for the kind words! Yeah, rigging will be a blast. Can't wait to get it out on the water and see how it runs. My research is saying top speed of ~40mph with that I/O given the boat size/weight/hull
Great Find!! Absolutely mint. Great boat to have with a growing family. Congrats.
Thanks 👍
She looks mint! Can’t wait to see what you change move add!
I have a either a 02 or 03 17’ Mr Pike and the first thing I did was up grade the wiring for the front trolling motor and in board charger! I did also put a heavier wire to the back battery box also ! Beautiful boat you have !
Thanks for the tips!!!
Congrats on the new boat! It's hectic when the kids get out on the boat and not a lot of fishing gets done but it's worth it when they get hooked up!
Thanks! Appreciate the heads up haha, yes, I think it will be a learning experience and all for the fun of it when the family / kid comes out!
Drotto - whether you’re by yourself, an inexperienced helper or with a fishing partner it is worth its weight for trailering/launching your boat.
That thing that won't pop out is actually a cup holder! I have that exact same Lowrance graph in my 2002 starcaster boat. It's not accurate at all and it's not worth keeping on there. And dang that is one clean boat for that age. I've never been into having an inboard motor but that's kind of nice. I wanted a single console boat because I wanted as much open space as I could get but I totally had the same thought when I moved from my old bass boat style to the lund pro v for the taller wall to contain my 2 boys. I'm excited for this series.
Awesome, I'll have to pull the screws out and see what is stuck and fix or replace it. Good heads up on the Lowrance, I'm going to take it off in that case. Yeah, a lot of people I talked to when I was looking for a boat said not to get an I/O, but when I asked why they all said due to hassle for maintenance & cost of maintenance. After a little searching it does seem to be true, but not too bad so here we go. Maybe I'll learn on this boat I for sure never want another, or maybe that it isn't bad. We will find out! Thanks for the feedback and thoughts and being excited for the series. Let me know if there is anything in particular you want to see or I should look into doing. 👍
the issue with stern drives is they deeper in the water and you don't want to steer either way when it is trimmed all the way up
yes upgrade it for a USB connector :)
What do you mean you don't want to steer either way when it is trimmed all the way up? Is it bad on it or something? Thanks!!
A really good electronics mount to use and it is pretty inexpensive is the Russel Marine RPM versa mount. It’s a great mount.
Thank you!!!
The black thing on top of the gunnel is just a step , we took it off ours when we put full tracks one both sides, we stuck a sheet of 1/4 inch metal underneath for more stability
Ahh, okay, makes sense. I tried searching on google for what it was an no clue haha. Appreciate the help. Yes, I need to put full tracks on both sides too, what brand / style did you go with? (good idea on the backing plate)
@@AlexTimm we went with the cannon tracks
Wow! Looks brand new!!
Yes!! Thanks 😊
great shape older boat! other than the obvious electronics.. rod storage is a key depending on the fishing you are wanting to do. storage is always the biggest part of any boat. the deep v style is great for the young ones or older ones in my case for aging parents for sure. I have a bass boat style crappie boat and wish I went deep v for the comfort of seating for my elderly parents and younger nieces and nephews. I know you are going to make this boat a fishing machine from how much i have seen from your ice fishing videos. Make sure you have your net net cause you are going to catch a bunch of fish.
Yes it is in really good shape for it's age! Agreed on rod storage being one of the primary things I need to figure out soon. Thanks for the kind words, and yes this thing is going to be a fishing machine with plenty of creature comforts as well. This is the fun part (and fishing of course ☺). I got the new Kalin's landing net a couple weeks ago at one of the boat shows, stoked to wear it out 👍
I think that unidentified thing under the throttle is a cup holder.
Yes! Thanks! You are right, took it apart tonight and got it working, then after pushing just a little too hard it got stuck again 😂 Looks like I won't be using it haha
I’m in the ford explorer 2 cars behind you after fishing at Mille lacs
Awesome!! Have any luck?
Get yourself a fishing rod retainer caddy, they work great for upright rod storage in boats without rod lockers. They slide right over a seat pedestal pole and can be moved around the boat anywhere you have a seat base. Holds 9 rods. I had a couple boats like yours and rod storage was always a problem until i found this! Kept mine up front since i almost always fished out of the back of the boat. I've seen them online at Cabelas/BP, Fleet farm, Amazon, or direct from the mfg. Around $30. Laying rods on floor in middle bad idea!
Thanks, the fishing rod retainer caddy is a really good idea. I am going to look into them! 👍👍
I would recommend a minnkota Deckhand
Nice shape boat. Lots of life left in her. If you are running Garmin graphs, and can afford it, I would get the Kraken. I have a Minnkota trolling motor and it doesn't talk to my Garmins. Steering area is called the helm. pronounced Bim in knee top 😃. Anchor points called cleats. Fishing from swim platform not advised and you will get wet. 🤪. Good luck on the Tyee.
Thanks! Super helpful! ☺ Appreciate it
My buddy has the same boat and what we did was in between the two consuls. We built a pop up deal so he could put rods in there like you said but then be able to walk thru without stepping on them. I turned out pretty nice. Wrapped it in aqua trax I think it’s called and put his name etched in it.
This is genius! Any pictures or video anywhere of it? I think this is exactly what I need to do
@@AlexTimm I don’t have pics of it or anything I can ask tho
@@Jaredschowalter715 sweet, thanks!
That’s a dang good idea
That boat is a show-stopper. I'd almost consider trying to keep that as it is for another 25 years instead of actually using it. Ha, ha, ha. They must have only fired it up a few times and let it sit in a garage for 25 years. Those batteries and everything else is just mint. Crazy nice! Congrats on the find!
Thanks!! What I was thinking too!!
Lights,lights,lights SO HELPFUL.
Inside or out? Thanks man!
Please replace that plug you need the bigger marinco plug and you should use 6 gauge wire from the battery to the plug. If you have any questions feel free to reach out. I'm in the industry
SUPER helpful, thanks! I might reach out if I have any questions. Thank you!!
congrats that boat is badass
Thank you!!
You need the new Minnkota quest I sold my force to upgrade to it
Thanks, I am going to look at it! What made you decide to go with the Quest instead of the Force?
@@AlexTimm lots of reasons my spot lock wasn’t that good plus the garmin force does not follow contour lines you have to create a waypoint or path for it to follow when it’s done it will return back to where it started which I don’t like with the Minnkota the have better spot lock and if you were trolling for walleyes and wanted to follow a contour line that’s 16ft it will stay on that contour line in that depth. They also have a new feature called drift mode really good for if your on rivers look at a few videos. I mean I love Garmin and I run and 1243 and 8610 with livescope but they still have some work to do Humminbird has hands down the best mapping and side imaging. When paired with the Minnkota trolling motor it’s a beast. So I’m running on my boat a Minnkota quest with a hummingbird solix and a garmin 1243xsv and 8610xsv along with the Lvs34
its a slide out cup holder
Get the kraken.
It's on the top of my list! Someone else recommended the Minnkota Quest, do you have experience with both any advice?
It a cup holder
