Hi Kayla, I’m also an 19 weeks pregnant with a baby girl and an ostomy! This is my second pregnancy. The first pregnancy with my son I still had my colon but had struggled with severe colitis for years. Last year I decided to have my colon removed during a hospitalization after several biologics had failed. I am just shy of 1 year post op and feeling grateful to be going through this pregnancy with my ostomy. Like you I have also used mesalamine suppositories to help with the colitis that is in the remaining portion of my colon. Today my gastroenterologist prescribed a steroid foam to help with the inflammation. It’s called CORTIFOAM. It’s a low dose that is safe to use during pregnancy. I also had lab work done to check my iron levels and they are low so I will be getting an iron infusion. For me this has helped greatly with my energy levels in the past. Take care, Andrea
Oh thank you for sharing Andrea!!! Thank you for letting me know about the steroid that is safe during pregnancy! I should ask about that. Have you noticed any major differences in your pregnancies? You are the perfect person to ask this question I've been wondering lately - my belly has been really sore and cramp-y feeling. Do you have that/and did you have it with your first pregnancy? I'm trying to figure out if it is sore from scar tissue or my scars in my abdomen or if it's normal stretching of pregnancy!
Thanks for the update. Sounds like you are doing super! Hannah Witton also has an ileostomy and her son just turned one year old. She's done a few videos sharing "24 hours with a newborn", "24 hours with a 6 month old", etc. that you might want to check out. She and her husband took new parenthood in stride and often found humor in the most stressful times. They were definitely an example to follow.
In spite of your hormonal up and down days, you look very healthy and radiant. You are doing well. Keep your spirits up, by doing the things that you love. Be well, my prayers are with you.
Don’t beat yourself up if you are feeling like you’re not doing a good job of managing your depression/anxiety. Remind yourself, you’re doing the absolute best you can and that’s alright! You’re also doing it with out any medication! That is the ultimate goal & you will get where you want to be! 🤍
