    Quite the opposite to what you say, Polish is a phonetic language, so in 99% of cases in Polish (unlike in English) what you see how it is written is how you say it, but of course first you have to know the rules how to pronounce letters and some pair of letters in Polish.

      Pronounciation of Polish letters is the same as Latin ones. You do need to learn special pairs rz (like french j) sz (like english sh), cz (like english ch in cheers) or special characters like ś (similar to s in sure), ć, ą or ę (those are hard to explain ;] ).

      Slavic languages were all written by a bunch of drunk guys playing scrabble...so I was taught. Some letters get lonely so they add a hook to them others need a roof :)

      A lot of letters is a problem in non-phonetic languages, like English. In Polish spelling is the last thing you should be worried about. But if you'd find it difficult, too bad, all the rest is harder :)@@denisegilleland100

    It's not Russian Orthodox. It's Polish Orthodox Church... Also you are wrong when you say "people usually work in more than one job"... I'm Polish, living in various cities in Poland and I know noone who works in more than one place.

Żeby ją pojąć te zależności trzeba przestudiować bardzo duży zakres historii, by rozjaśnić konteksty. Lepiej po prostu informować świat o historii i kwestiach wyznaniowych Polski dość epizodycznie, aby przekazać dużo pozytywów i sprawić miłe wrażenie. Czepianie się fraz o kościele ortodoksyjnym niewiele tu wniesie...

    I always wanted to move to European country because i am a Christian Turkish. Being Christian is hard here. I sometimes scare about my life and my family doesn't talk about our religion to be safe. God bless your Christian country 💓

      +Sarah Martin- You and other Christians in Islamic countries are the very people the West SHOULD be taking in as refugees and offering asylum to but because our leaders are Godless heathens,or Christian in name only, they are flooding the West with Muslim migrants and lying to us that they are poor,persecuted " refugees"! Many of us have seen through this scam now, though and we know very well that most of them are not " refugees" at all.If it were up to me, my country would offer you and other Christians a place here in Ireland where,unlike most of the West,most people still have faith in Christ,even though our government and main stream media are trying to drive the Christianity out of Ireland and make us a heathen country like the rest of the West( and we can see how well THAT'S working!). God bless you and keep your heart up! Remember that Christ always keeps His promises.I will say a prayer for you and please say one for me!

      Not Amused I'm thankful for the response. I think so too. I cant go to church here because the gov closing them or making them mosques. And just bc me and my family wants to live a safe life, it says we are muslim in our id. I took islamic classes 12 years in school bc i had to. I wish Europe could see this. If i lived in Europe, why would i destroy their place? They are kind to take mo to their land and if im ungrateful, thats not something god and Christ would want me to do. But they still taking the nigerian or syrians... I'm not being rude or anything but i think Europe has forgotten who they are. God may bless you and your loved ones.

    • @notamused3715
      @notamused3715 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Sarah Martin- You're welcome Sarah.The West is not refusing to help ye because they think ye will be ungrateful of destructive but because ye are Christians;that's what myself and many other people now think anyway! I don't think you are being rude at all when you say the West has forgotten who they are! They have more than forgotten, they have outright rejected it and that is because so many Westeners have rejected the Christian faith of their forebears,including and especially our leaders! It is a tragedy but it has been predicted in the Bible so I suppose we shouldn't be surprised.I am only hoping and praying that if things get really bad my faith will be strong enough to stand firm.I admire and respect Christians like yourself who are living in countries where they are so oppressed and even persecuted yet never abandon Christ. It sounds as if life is very difficult for ye there and my heart goes out to you! The desecration of churches by turning them into mosques is a Sin Crying Out to Heaven for Vengeance- God will not be mocked and Erdogan and his cronies will face justice for it one way or another! Thank you for your reply and your blessing ,it means a lot!

    • @ehkbv
      @ehkbv 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not Amused Even tho our gov wants everyone muslim, me and my family will not left Christianity. But I'm still sad bc i cant get a proper Christian education. I dont know my religion like you do. It's sad that i know more about quran than the holy bible. Oh and i dont know but some people in west think being non-religious is a good thing. I hope they find the right way.

    • @notamused3715
      @notamused3715 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Sarah Martin- I have been reading about what Erdogan is doing and it's appalling that he is trying to force Turkish people to all be Muslim.It is even more disturbing that he wants to join the EU which is supposed to be about democracy and tolerance! Supposed to be anyway! In reality EU leaders hate Christianity,even if they say they are Christian. Their actions certainly do not show them as sincere Christians with their allowing abortion and homosexual "marriage" and also their policies which are rapidly widening the gap between rich and poor.Sadly,because most Western Europeans are either lax about their faith or have rejected Christ altogether, this will continue. Western Europe is loosing it's way and many of it's citizens are as responsible for this as our governments are. We sort of get the governments most,but not all of us deserve in a a way but there is no choice or it's a choice between bad, worse and worst which isn't much of a choice at all. Poland and Hungary are different because most of their people are devout Christians and their governments reflect this! I can only hope and pray that we hear more from Christians such as yourself, who are living in countries where you are oppressed or even persecuted for your faith as many of us in the West have become lazy, taking our freedom of worship for granted or even giving it up! Christians like you are good example to us!Please pray for us!

    You are wrong about those "communist" apartment buildings. They were built like that because that was the least expensive way to provide people with their own places to live. Not so long ago, there was a huge shortage of apartments. It had nothing to do with making people equal. Besides, such buildings were also built in western Europe, e.g. in France.

      +Damian Rocławski No. It was totalitarian military rezim, not really definition of communism. The country was rebuilding after WW2 and the totalitarian rezim controlling capital and industry did a great job with rebuilding, educating and feeding its population. Do not forget about constant danger of being invaded by West again, threat of nuclear war, expensive. enormous military expenditures, and Cold War that was lost. West won, shouldn't be difficult to figure this out, just look around.

    Hi Victoria, I really enjoyed your presentation, though your background music was a little loud, otherwise, you have a beautiful smile & lovely voice! Btw, do you have any tips for those who are thinking about immigrating to Poland from the U.S. ? I have been looking at Eastern/Central Europe for a while, and I really like Katowice in particular there. Any advice?

    • @VictoriaRuprecht
      @VictoriaRuprecht  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi TheGoodwolfe! Thank you so much for the comment! I would say the greatest barrier for you is language, if you don't already know Polish. Living in a big city would be my greatest bet for finding opportunities. Not saying that there is nothing in the rural areas, but it may be harder to come across. Having some connections is helpful and can take you far. In Poland, it's all about the connections you form. But I have to say that the Polish people really enjoy foreigners, especially from the U.S.A. I'd say they're intrigued by you and probably want to practice their English as well. Personally, whenever I go to Poland, I never mention that I'm from the States, because you do get treated differently, almost if not better, but that also comes with less sincerity. But, if you're interested in teaching English or hosting conversation tables that will definitely take you far/ give you an advantage. As someone living in the States, prices are not too bad, but electronics are pricey. Overall, I would ask myself what my goals are and what I want to get out of the experience? Let me know if you'd be interested in a longer video on this topic? I hope that helps for now! Thanks!

    • @TheGoodwolfe
      @TheGoodwolfe 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much for your reply! I should mention that I'm recently retired, a young 62, in good health, and with S.S. and savings, and other retirement income, so I wouldn't need a job or income in Poland. I really like the climate and nature parks in Katowice, and thought it large enough to get by with English while learning Polish. That said, I would certainly be open to & appreciate any other suggestions or recommendations as to where to live that you think a new expat should consider as well.I would also start learning Polish while still here in the U.S. but as you know, unless you practice it, progress is slow. Language is going to be challenge anywhere in the region, and I'm prepared to deal with that. Making connections and hopefully friendships is always key in a new place, so I like to believe it'll be helpful that I'm a very open and friendly person who enjoys meeting new people. I enjoy your videos, but yes, it would wonderful, if you might consider doing an extended one specifically for potential expats interested in Poland. You may be surprised to learn that a number of Americans are seriously interested in Poland. I appreciate and admire so much about Poland and the Polish people. There are many beautiful areas and I like the cooler weather with real seasons. Overall cost of living according to Numbeo and other sites certainly seems quite a bit cheaper on most things than the larger cities in the U.S. as well. A video with specifics for people considering relocating to Poland would be very helpful & whatever you consider the major Pros/cons?
      Again, thank you very much! Any advice is appreciated!

      Personally I would recommend you Wrocław. Big enough to get by with English and just a stunning city overall. Wrocław is like Polish Venice, with lots of bridges, canals etc. It has many beautiful parks as well as an amazing townsquare. It is also a home for dwarfs, you can find them in various places around the city. They are a kind of city mascots ;) Cracov is also really beautiful, but also is known for smog, it becomes really bad and is only getting worse. But still is a great place to visit :) Anyway, greetings from Poland, God bless you!

    Polish is read EXACTLY the way it is written. The problem for the English speakers is that it's them who simply don't know how to read latin script, because English spelling rules are absurdly messed up.

    I would like to point out that these buildings from the Stalinist period, these simple concrete housing estates, were forced by the war, where Poland was completely devastated and people had to live somewhere. In the translation about the beliefs in Poland about Muslims, it was translated that these people come from Turkey, they are not Tatars, rather a settled Mongolian tribe already in the Middle Ages and actively fighting on the side of Poland. The second informal emblem of Poland could be the stork, which builds nests on houses and flies to the same nests. Even in spring, the hosts wait for the return of their storks and even give them names. No one in Poland will harm a stork, they are loved by Poles, they are a harbinger of the coming summer.

    I'll have to strongly disagree with you on the first one. Things are written EXACTLY as they are spoken, we just have different sounds for the letters. Once you know the sounds you can pronounce every new word you see written perfectly. Try that in English and see how it goes. "Worcester" is pronounced "Woostah" for crying out loud. "i" sounds one way in "pike" and another way in "pick". Doesn't happen in Polish, the letter will always be the same noise from your mouth (apart from some combinations, like "sz" which may look strange to you, but is exactly the same as "sh" in English).

    Difficulties with returns in shops is a stereotype. It was like that maybe 30 years ago. Nowadays there is no problem to return goods back to the shops. They even do not ask why you return sth. Service is also going to improve, especially in restaurants.

    Well not most old town districts were destroyed, they were mainly destroyed in bigger cities, for example in Krakow it was not attacked by Germans so it is 100% original for like 500 years already.

    2:55, Poles live in small villages and towns, no Stalin type architecture there. Polish identity is preserved within families and our way of life. A lot of us are farmers. Pole, pronounced PAW- LAY, means simply a FIELD. No russian influences there.

    • @jakubpiotrmusia9340

      Wilhelm Bock Are you ever been in Poland? Towns in Poland is no small. In my city Wrocław are been a lot of new blocks of flats and new office buildings and all the time the others are under construction.

    • @waltt5134
      @waltt5134 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jakub Musiał I have a farm in Poland, 42% of Poles live in rural areas. Life's much better in countryside. Just about every polititian lives in small villages. The poorest section of society lives in block of flats. Blocks of flats common in Sweden.

    • @jakubpiotrmusia9340
      @jakubpiotrmusia9340 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The poor are mainly in the street, the vast majority of people in the blocks are not poor. Poland is not poor! The lowest unemployment since 1989, this year more people came to Poland than led. These are real data. I saw how it is abroad and the standard of living is the same as Poland. The difference is that there are more people abroad in every social group. In abroad are more rich, middle and poor people. Countries are rich than Poland. There is more funding for people. Although in Poland for over a year is a program for families "500+". rodzina500plus.gov.pl The standard of living in Poland is very good. Villages life is so beautiful. Greetings from Wrocław. European Capital of culture 2016. City of more than 100 bridges, 5 positions in Europe. "Poland has not died when we live. What foreign strikes took us, we take the saber.[…]"

    • @waltt5134
      @waltt5134 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Clearly you are Polish. Popatrz na statystyki, ile ludzi mieszka w wioskach i małych miastach. Zycie jest dobre w wioskach, ludzie z blokowisk kupuja sobie ziemie i buduja domy poza dużymi miastami. Już nie wiem o co tu chodzi. Na wsi zycie jest dobre, na wsi polskiej mieszkają Polacy. Probably, this lady tried to prove that Poland has become stalinist because of the blocks of flats in large cities, that is not any Poland. Small tawns and rural areas, that`s Poland. Catholic Church, that`s Poland.
