"must be going hundred-six ... hundred-and-seven" ... no sir, I believe you MEANT to say he is going exactly 65mph and not a hair more as per FAR Part 103. Wouldnt want to violate any rules for an ultralight.
Adding my comment years later for other viewers, the designer of the Legal Eagle, Leonard Milholland, sells plans for what is known as the "Better Half" VW engine. That is a full case VW engine with two cylinders removed and the crankshaft cut in half. A Legal Eagle with that engine is FAA Part 103 legal, hence the name. His engine solves the oil cooling and vibration issues that some other half-case VW solutions have.
I seen a video with the designer and he showed his “double eagle” that uses a full VW engine (plans available) but that’s a light sport because of the weight.
Let me ask you something... for a guy with only tricycle gear time.. is it going to be hard to fly the conventional gear without getting a bunch of dual time with conventional gear... with the Legal Eagle? Thanks... Like you Video.
Everyone is different! Good motor skills come natural for some people and others not so much. Can you wake board, water ski, ride motor cycle? Almost anyone can learn to fly conventional gear its just easier for some than others. You are the one that can evaluate yourself best. If you are good at motor skills in general it will come easy.
easy to learn. build a cheap tricycle cart out of wood. tailwheel in the rear hooked up to yer rudder pedals. use a waterski rope to tow behind quad or golf cart. you hold the rope with hands and learn to “dance” the pedals to steer. you will tip a few times so it recommended to do this on grass or dirt. obviously u let go of rope when wiping out.
***** Probably not this one. My brother started building it and was killed riding a motorcycle. My Dad and the rest of us brothers finished it and all claim part of it.
Heyy ..Dude something wrong with your Wing over weight need your change the design of earo dynamic and make it lightweight the plane cant get through fly ....your engine is good
So simple and beautiful perfect for training you did great job
Beautiful airplane !!

Guy on the ground can claim hundred and seven all he wants, ground speed. Can't go more than 63 _air_ speed, but... factor a tail wind, no big.
Looked like a bug exaggeration to me as well....
Believe I would add some reinforcement to the seat
Hey thanks for the info on the website.
Nice ranch and plane. Which magneto does it have?
Thanks, Its a Slick Mag
No, thats a fairbanks morse magneto in the video
Can you run the full VW engine on these, or would that be too much weight?
Naw. that would be WAY to heavy! Weight is the critical item. We try to cut down on the ounces not pounds.
Not if you want to stay within 107 rules/weight
