I wonder if Luis Fernando Lopez ever got this much hate... Let me think.. No... Is that character black?... Yes... Is a game shitty for capping FPS shitty? I'd say yes again. Franklin Clinton... Everybody is OK with that.......Now Is the game on PC ok? I think not. 30 FPS cap? What the actual FFFF? Muddy textures that look like the entire game is being rendered at 720p and then upscaled higher resolution. Giving it the bad picture quality.
TheTjam84 ***** Which is exactly why I don't preorder, nor buy any game until it's heavily discounted and patched to the point where it's not broken. That store bug killed me. I had to download it elsewhere(another drive) them fucking move it hahahaha. I am not laughing at you. I literally am not sure how that store even works
Same here dude, both my friend and I are unable to download it. His reset back to zero when his download reaches 100% and mine just resets to zero when I pause or stop the download. Not to mention the fact it won't let me initiate the download now.
I FUCKING CALLED IT. Can developers start fucking taking games seriously. *EDIT* I know this probably isn't Hangar 13's fault and the publisher made them push out a half assed product.
It had fantastic music, incredible world sound (except cars like you said), great characters, a brilliant setting, great visuals for the most part, pretty good gameplay and I like the little nuanced changes in the outcomes of missions depending on what you do. The only things needing sorting I feel was the incredibly repetitive missions/activities, some very strange visual oddities (those flippin clouds, man) and the game's overall stability. I got 2 hard crashes on PS4 but much better after an update. Mafia 3 is definitely flawed with signs of potential. If Mafia 4 is going to be a thing I hope the devs gets their heads on straight next time and apply a bit more effort.
People are saying the graphics are upscaled from 720p (Hence the poor textures and blurriness, etc). Not to mention the crashes, poor widescreen support, tearing, etc. And thanks for the review. I always come here first/trust you the most. Funny how big pc websites seem shallow in their reviews nowadays.
playing on xbox one. Played 8 hours straight and it didn't crash once. Also the fps where not as bad, at least not very noticable. Ocasionaly a little stutter. Graphically some weird light and shadow effects, but it looked beautiful at times. If you would compare this to a gta and a watch dogs it would be right in the middle. What makes it really interesting is the story though, just like all of the mafia games before.
Patrick cellar door only reason is about to buy it is for the story. In my opinion I'd rather the gameplay be mediocre and the story be amazing then the gameplay be outstanding and the story be lackluster
Angry Joe sells out occasionally, I actually unsubbed from him, but I gained a bit of respect with his No Man's Sky review which is totally on point. When he's pissed, he's pissed, and definitely says what's on the mind of many disappointed (or soon to be) gamers.
I personally enjoy the game, I do understand peoples frustration with the technical sides of the game the game play doesn't feel repetitive to me cause i'm used to games like mad max and shadow of mordor. I like the story to it and the writing, art style, and soundtrack is fits amazingly. The AI is a bit problematic and there isn't a lot of them to make the world feel crowded like a city
So the devs have already stated a patch for 60+ fps should be out soon (as early as this weekend). That said, I have to ask how a 30 fps lock on PC doesn't set off red flags throughout the office of a major "AAA" studio by now. It's a good way to cannibalize your own sales. As for the game itself, seems pretty rough in some spots but definitely something I'll check out in a sale assuming they fix the technical issues. Really intrigued by the setting and characters.
We will never know, but i do think the devs wouldn't want to release a game that cleary needed more polishment. It's not hard to imagine that a delay must have been requested, but not attended
As a primarily PC gamer "let's go get that Ferrari you've always wanted, and then put a god damn giant block of wood under the gas pedal" hits true. Call me spoiled but 30FPS on my PC made me nauseated to the point that it's unplayable. Thanks again for making this decision easy Karak, I was looking forward for this game but I'll wait for sale. Cheers!
I just mentioned what the big deal is. When you're used to 60, going back to 30 in something as close as a PC monitor made me nauseated to the point that it's unplayable.
Well considering it's my system, my money and my enjoyment, I think it's my right as a potential customer not to waste them on a poor console port that is locked at 30fps. Just as it is your right if you want to support this practice on mediocrity. What I don't want to do is be arrogant enough to impose my view on you that I can judge whatever you're doing is under or over reacting about something, but hey, you do you.
I miss all the little details from the previous titles, like bloody foot steps, bullets lay on the ground, realistic police, demolition my car and more. This Game is solid, but far away from be good.
first time watching one of your reviews, I am a TH-camr and really look for honest and creative content to break the mold of ad focused payed out 2 minute reviews, i'm gonna sub for the simple fact I trust your opinion and it measures really well to a scenario if we had a conversation in person, I think we would get along really well. take care I'll see you in the next one.
this is one case where after hearing you out, I went ahead and got the game anyway. You talked about several things that concern me, but in the end the timing of this release is perfect for me to take a break away from other games i play more seriously. I'm mostly interested in the story here, so I can overlook some technical issues. Hopefully, at least, I am waiting for the game to install so I can begin. Thanks anyway for the great review!
Hear, hear. The current Plus games don't grab me, so playing this one instead. It's a reasonably good time, though I agree about the padding. I think the basic storyline would have made a phenomenal Max Payne style linear game, while as an open world it's just so-so
Everyone's talking about the graphics.. Am I the only one who thinks the game is really repetitive? Been playing almost 10 hours now and all the missions are: drive here, kill these few men, drive here watch cutscene, lather, rinse, repeat. Don't get me wrong, the story is really strong and i love the voice acting but story does not make a game, gameplay makes a game, the story is what drives the game. I was expecting some variation in the missions but its all the same.
Syuna I was so hyped it was my birthday october 9th my mom got me mafia 3 i played it was good for a few hours it's so repetitive even saints row 3 is better
funny how ign is fully staffed yet they don't have the review up and their GoW 4 review still "in progress". keep up the good work Karak, now get some sleep.
For any of those who are on the ropes about buying this game, I would highly recommend that you buy it, or if you already own it, give it a second chance. A new studio (Hangar 13) has taken control of this game and added not just a large amount of patches but also content and features. I could barely run the game at 30fps on my PC when this game first came out, but can now run this game easily at over 60. Point is if you have given up on this game, just please give it a second chance, I promise it will be worth your time.
I'm not buying this. When i Heard about Mafia 3, I thought ok give me somethign like Mafia 1, story driven linear (not open world I'm tired of that)game based on some real Mobsters from 20s 30s or even later like from movie Godfather somethin like that.
Nailed the review here and also my first impression of the first 3-4 hours. Story is easily one of the more engrossing and well-told ones out there. I have the PC version and though I'm lucky enough not to have experienced any crashes, it feels like the game was just not finished on a technical level. Extreme pop-in, shadows disappearing and reappearing with camera movement, and the absolutely ludicrous daytime light/shadow skylight change is kind of immersion breaking. That and I would have liked NPC animations that have the same follow-thru and consistency of the protagonist - the change in states can feel very stilted at times which just leaves a bad taste in your mouth when the situation and atmosphere around you is so damn good. I hope that Hanger 13 is able to resolve a lot of these issues because that game is a work of art with tech issues heavily weighing it down.
FANTASTIC REVIEW!! I love your matter of fact style reporting. The questions I ask are immediately answered and your unbias review is refreshing. Also a fan that you don't try to be funny and that you aren't ummmhhing and ahhhing your way through your narrative. I am now a subscriber of your gaming videos..ty John
shouldn't be that bummed. the bugs will get patched in a few days most likely. after that, you will have a great game with a 30+ story with great pacing and fantastic characters. plus more story arcs are coming in dlc.
Nah man, I've been playing this game for the past 8 straight hours. Epic story, good gameplay and descent graphics. Worth buying, definitely more so than anything thats came out over the last year so far.
CyclonicDeath Yeah definitely a casual. I've played 3 hours of the fucking game and you just do the same shit again. It's the definition of a casual game and you aren't even that good at trolling tbh.
Despite the review, I went ahead and picked this up on ps4. I'm experiencing no frame drops or crashes. Given the time the review went live, I'm really doubting this was tested with the day 1 patch.
lol it was already proven many times. Or are you thinking all those folks here getting crashes right that minute are also a massive grand conspiracy to prove your point?
I never said that. Just stating my counter experience. It's not affecting everyone (or even most) from what I can tell. Let's apply some decency and not make assumptions about people and avoid putting words int heir mouths, shall we?
I am new here and stumbled onto your channel for a review of GoW 4. . .SUPER impressed with the review format!! Instant sub and had to go back to your review of GTA V (one of my favorite current games), and I have to give you props for your honest, non-biased, multi-pronged approach to reviewing. In depth would be an understatement these are GREAT and keep up the good work M8!
Hi Karak, been following your reviews for bout a year now. Cant go back to the 5 minute on the surface reviews after these. Please dont ever change your review format even when you become big and hit 2-3 mil subs, which i know you will in no time.
Love your review! Very well made, good humour and you opinion well projected. May I just request the section when you reviewed sounds like the sound of the cars, could you play a sample so we can relate to what you're reviewing? I loved the visual review where you showed evidence of what you have experience. Thank you for the video!
It looks really interesting, and sounds like maybe we finally have a true open-world Mafia game, but the technical problems worry me. I think the first impression is enough to put it in the same realm as Watch_Dogs for most people, a fun game with a lot of problems, therefore I wouldn't be surprised if like Watch_Dogs, it sees a pretty big drop in price pretty rapidly (I bought a used copy of Watch_Dogs for $10, and I saw it as low as $5 CDN for a new copy at EB Games). At that price I'd jump on it for sure, but I definitely won't pay the $80 CDN full price. Great review as always.
ACG > yeah I know we all have different experiences but I watched a few videos and I've heard everyone complaining about the same thing.. So I hope I'm not speaking too soon lol anyway great video.
The game started out brilliant then got painfully repetitive and story seemed to fizzle out. If given more time in the oven this could have been a great game.
thank god its a wait to buy. tomb raider, bf1, skyrim hd, watch dogs2, last guardian. my wallet cant handle them all. another nice review, from the skin to the bones of the game. :D
just get bf1. tomb raider sucked. skyrim hd is a ripoff and skyrim isnt that great. watch dogs 2 will suck. just look at watch dogs 1. Ubisoft always downgrade their games. i dont know about the last guardian tho.
+Trippy Mc Trip holds you by the hand and is linear do you hear yourself.. 400 hours plus gameplay and its linear your really funny... yet somehow the game is rated as one of the best rpg games in the world a top among the top yet it wasnt awarded for its linearity, congrats bravo youve been stupped
I already own the game and am still watching your review.. My thoughts, best thing is gunplay, worst thing is graphics, there's all over the place with lighting, draw distance is terrible with noticeable black lines where only half the pixels are loaded until you get close up! Plus you can't jump which winds me up haha. The map is also not as big as everyone thought pre release, like half the size of GTA 5. But it's fun for just shooting things up, the cover is solid and stealth mode well done.
I respect your ratings but what would it be if all the technical stuff was fixed tomorrow? I think the review should have an evergreen aspect to it where the "launch day" problems don't totally skew the rating for people that check it out months or years later.
Yeah, but I'd really appreciate a perhaps secondary opinion of the games rating taking the technical stuff out of the picture. I literally buy or "don't buy" games based on your opinions, but I cannot recall you giving a game a "good" rating when you are talking about the fun of the game and then saying "don't buy, because of day one bugs." Given that I won't buy it on day one anyway, what do I then do a month from now when technical stuff is fixed? Are you going to do a follow up / update to the review if all of that is sorted out? Isn't that doing a disservice to your fans if you have a "rent" rating on a game based on a fact that is no longer true?
"That's complete separate from the fact that I may love the story and LOVE a great deal of the gameplay" I mean I totally understand that companies should stop doing shitty day-one versions of games -- so call them out on that. But some time down the road I will want to buy it on a steam sale or something if all of that is fixed... but I don't know your real summary option of it because it is hidden behind old technical problems. (this all assumes they actually improve things, of course :))
It could be argued that some reviewer sites of a policy to have their reviewers excluding technical problems. A lot of outlets gave Assassin's Creed Unity good scores on day one because they "looked past" the technical problems. I'm not saying this is good or bad, I'm just saying I'd like an opinion from my favorite reviewer that is more... timeless. I'm invested enough in ACG's reviews that he could not give a final buy/rent/wait rating and I could draw my own conclusion... which in this case would be "wait for them to fix their shit, and then it is a buy." But because there *is* a conclusion, and it is basically "don't waste your money" I'm left to question all the other statements made within the review itself. In other words, the day one technical problems totally invalidate all the things he liked about the game.. and some day the game might run buttery smooth and still have all those good things, but the "final score" will still be "don't waste your money."
Adam Smasher Jfc, say anything about the damn game. But the graphics? That it fucking nailed without any doubt, and you must be blind af if you say otherwise.
looks I may be giving this a miss then. just another one to add to the rapidly growing list of disappointing games. what on earth is happening, these last couple of years have been horrendous for this.
Waqib Hussain I mean, that's a bit of an aggressive question. I would never play Mafia III even if it was heralded as a great game, because I don't like this genre of game. I would only ever base my opinion of this game by reviews from people because I'll never play it. I watched this review because it's supposed to be a GOTY contender, but it seems it won't be now.
I loved Mafia 2 because the mobster setting was so unique to video games in that the world setting was just amazing. Like how every day you woke up in your house and every night you went back home. You could walk around your apartment, eat food from your fridge, open and close your windows and the sound would get louder or quieter just added so much sexy realism to it. The story was also good enough that I kept wanting to keep trying (despite the absolutely atrocious checkpoint system) but this game... First of all it doesn't seem like a Mafia game, but it also seems to have lost a lot of the soul the past games had. This game just seems like a standard "unstoppable killer" story with ubisoft elements that blows my mind how people aren't bored of it yet. Also damn ACG you were spitting fire in this review. I appreciate that you don't buy into the bullshit the devs are spewing. Every time a PC game has come out with locked framerate PC gamers get up in arms about it. Whether it's entitled or not, the fact is that it's not hard to have an unlocked framerate and the fact they did it smacks as a lazy port.
@ACG Thanks for the review Karak. I was eagerly anticipating Mafia III since those initial images but after your review I can see it hasn't captured the magic Mafia 1 and 2 had, and I don't feel like spending my hard-earned on a bugfest. Still the best, most honest, comprehensive game reviews out there. Keep on doing them!
Thanks for the quick review. I think you were one of the first people out with a review. Definitely helped me make a decision on whether I should day 1 purchase.
Very good review. Playing this for free on PSN and you absolutely nailed it in terms of veiwing this from a level headed standpoint and not just raging about the way the missions work. I honestly believe the heat they set it up the way they did was to make sure there was a direct connection between what you were doing in the open world and what was happening in the story, something that many open world games fail to do.
I've bought this game on xbox one, and i must say epic i had 0 problems whatsoever with it running on my xbox one s love it. The one let down is no multiplayer online other than that superb game i would recommend a easy buy for this game.
Got Mafia 3 sitting comfortably with 0 hours played on steam right now. Hoping that this weekend the FPS gets unlocked and I'll play it but even then with what I've seen here and other streamers even with a FPS increase it seems that this game has a lot of technical problems which is a true shame as this was one of my most anticipated games for the year. Great review as always :)
YOU KNOW IT, MATE! well, there's a VERY good reason why R* games run without so many crashes [apart from the xb360 graphical 'catch-ups' on GTAV, but, considering how OLD xb360 was when it was released, it did an excellent job of actually getting such a modern AI and graphically superb game to RUN on such an old console!!]. If you have ever played "The Ballad of Gay Tony" , a DLC for GTAIV, you will see that it's an early tester for the UI of GTAV. Even some of the guns etc are tried out in TBoGT. a lot of the structures and poor quality graphics on the buildings in GTAIV were a hangover from GTA:SA [my fav GTA of all... PC version ruled but i later played it on PS2 and it almost looked as good]. Also, R* have a top range of coders that stay loyal AND, above all, supportive to the fans of the game. HOW MANY DLCs IN GTAV WERE FREE? GUESS. ALL. ALL DLCs IN GTAV ARE FREE. ON ALL FORMATS! because they know when being greedy loses you credibility. COD could look like a bag of dicks but the sheep would still buy it cos it's as simple as using reflexes. the gameplay is the same every tiem you play it. Granted, the WW2 CODs and COD:MW and Black Ops 1 were superb but the MW2 [ok-ish] etc and BO2 and 3 were so lame. the same old same old , rinse and repeat. you do the same old thing over and over again. Just like reading one of those right wing wankathons by Tom Clancy... wave the flag, god bless amerikuh! urghh... at least GTA takes the piss outa modern Western culture and does it in a funny way.
I absolutely loved the opening of this game and don't think it gets the credit it deserves. I was really surprised by how they built the trust of certain characters and how it ended so brutally, speaking only on the opening.
This is the best, most unbiased review I've seen. You didn't say the game was shit because you can't go do things like play tennis. Gamespot and IGN focused on comparing it to other games and basing their review on that. If they do that from now on they have to be fair, and rate the next gta, farcry, or red dead redemption a zero if they use the witcher 3 as a metric
Game james Some missions was boring yes. Worst graphics? Do you even know what games Mafia 1 was up against at that time? Rather prefer some realism into the driving handling, rather than todays "babywheelchair" physics seen in a lot of open world games. I didnt say that they would do the exact same game. I was wondering what if the same old team had the same compassion as they had with mafia 1 but instead with todays technology.
The main thing that I can't get over with this game is the absolutely terrible texture popping. I noticed it first from Angry Joe and now from ACG and it just bothered me the entire time watching this video. Plus there are absolutely no textures from the rear view mirror while in a car. That is just unacceptable in my opinion it just completely breaks immersion for me.
I downloaded the game from xbox live and haven't experienced any of the problems people are talking about.I make mods and learned the hard way that you shouldn't just rush and install a game on your pc without making sure everything is updated, even if it seems to be unrelated to whatever the problem may be, it might just be the right fix for it.And anyone talking about video game repetiveness should also mention the gears of war franchise and this is coming from a fan/frequent player of the games.
Good review as always ACG but damn they really need to add clothing options. I know they confirmed they're gonna add it as free dlc but the fact that the sequel had different outfits and why this one decided to not have it in the first place is beyond me
I just beat this game about 2 hours ago and IT WAS FANTASTIC!!! Sure it has its glitches and frame rate drops but they are rare to come across. Excellent story line and pace, awesome voice acting, beautiful animations/graphics, sweet gun collection, driving mechanics represent how cars would drive back then, fun missions, PROFOUND soundtrack, and it makes its mark as a great addition to the Mafia series. My favorite mafia game so far actually. People say the missions are repetitive, id say the level of repetitiveness is that of an assassins creed game, no more, no less. So don't listen to the reviews and enjoy this game, any gamer would love it and they won't regret playing it!
The population actually seems about right for New Orleans, Los angles is a much more populated city so it makes sense for GTA 5 to have more people. Though the highways could be more populated in Mafia 3.
in what way is it dead?? Gta5 map was like an empty shell i can drive through in 30 seconds , this map is soooo much better more personality, more buildings to go it with different vibes , everything about this map is better lol
The NPCs are lifeless. They have interesting conversations but thats about it. U run into them and they won't. U crash into their and the most they'll do is honk their horn. They barely interact
what a shame last night I was watching gameplay and those cut scenes of the in game documentary are so awesome and addicting I couldn't stop I felt like I wanted to grab the popcorn, too bad it's buggy ACG great job as usual please keep us updated on patches I think with some patches it could jump up in score up a bit I knew something felt off glad I waited battlefield 1 and Titan fall 2 I guess it is
Sorry for the racist that crept in here ladies and gentleman. I had to remove them
I wonder if Luis Fernando Lopez ever got this much hate... Let me think.. No... Is that character black?... Yes...
Is a game shitty for capping FPS shitty? I'd say yes again.

thanks for another good review ACG. you have my respect good sir.
he was dominican basically hispanic
that made no fucking sense at all
having both easily
It seems like AAA devs have lost interest/don't care in optimizing for any system, as of late.
that's because so many people preorder regardless. Their game will shift millions of copies whether it's ass or not. Sad really.
TheTjam84 ***** Which is exactly why I don't preorder, nor buy any game until it's heavily discounted and patched to the point where it's not broken.

*mafia 2 was good*
horizon zero dawn looks very optimised in graphics, just need it to come out for Acg to do a review
I recently finished Mafia 2 for the first time and I enjoyed it a lot.
I absolutely love the soundtrack of this game.
+subject_17 me as well
Those graphic shaders are some of the worst Ive seen in years, its like the world has been rubbed over by a very large eraser.
This 30fps lock got me mad as hell! 1st Forza Horizon 3 runs like shit on my 970 now this trash is stuck @ 30! I bought a pc to escape these problems
What bothers me even more is that they already were working on a patch? I mean that means that as dev they weren't at all worried about LAUNCHING with that issue but at the same time knew it was important. That shows some next level balls
ACG Yup, lets just get this shit out there & we will worry about the patches later lol wtf kind of mentality is this???
ACG NOW it won't let me download Gears 4 off the Microsoft store! says I own but won't let me download
That store bug killed me. I had to download it elsewhere(another drive) them fucking move it hahahaha. I am not laughing at you. I literally am not sure how that store even works

Always looks too good to be true, why I've stopped pre-ordering
It's fun as hell though. and I haven't had any bugs
Can consumers stop pre-ordering / buying on launch day :(
you're a dipshit
LOl this was my first pre-order, probably my last too.
It had fantastic music, incredible world sound (except cars like you said), great characters, a brilliant setting, great visuals for the most part, pretty good gameplay and I like the little nuanced changes in the outcomes of missions depending on what you do. Jon Smith Yep, I just came from Reddit and I can confirm this.
I was really excited for this one, but man...
Well hopefully they can fix the crashes and bugs, then it would be a very decent game
playing on xbox one. Played 8 hours straight and it didn't crash once. Also the fps where not as bad, at least not very noticable. Ocasionaly a little stutter. really is very good bugs like this really dont affect me
U spamed almost 2000 videos but only 51k subs Sad af
Patrick cellar door only reason is about to buy it is for the story. In my opinion I'd rather the gameplay be mediocre and the story be amazing then the gameplay be outstanding and the story be lackluster
Fed up of new games being technically insufficient, why can't developers take their time and get it right? So disappointing
GTAV is a truly remarkable technical achievement
its like they would rather focus on fun gameplay and interesting stories, how awful
forza horizon came out alright.
because of day one buyers, don't forget the preorder ones
Best reviewer, by a country mile. TBH your one of only a few reviewers that i trust to give an impartial opinion/view.
glad you liked it
+Lloyd Franklin The thing is Angry Joe sucks at games
Angry Joe sells out occasionally, I actually unsubbed from him, but I gained a bit of respect with his No Man's Sky review which is totally on point. When he's pissed, he's pissed, and definitely says what's on the mind of many disappointed (or soon to be) gamers.
I thought so too, until I saw Joe thought Suicide Squad was a good movie...
Don't sleep on my man The Black Hokage

Finally. This the only review I need to hear. I bought it but haven't opened it.
thanks
a game that will take 6 months worth of patches to fix smfh...
Actually I haven't experienced any problems since the day 1 patch.
The Frame rate patch is coming this weekend. Good lord.
You mean Arkham Knight and AC Unity :)
alphakillson my game crashed over 2 times when i did the ferris wheel mission...
Toxichydra67 I still haven't crashed.
you mention True Crime..
mmmmm, they should make more of that game, or atleast make a Sleeping dog sequel
Dewd Soup Sleeping Dogs was True Crime Hong Kong
PLANET RRR yes, I am aware of that.

"YOU NEED A PORK BUN!!!!"
Cheers!
Revilleza Lucky I'm with you. We don't spend extra money on high powered PCs for goddamn 30fps
Still don't understand the big deal with framerates.
I just mentioned what the big deal is. When you're used to 60, going back to 30 in something as close as a PC monitor made me nauseated to the point that it's unplayable.
I feel like your overreacting. But whatever man, you do you.
I believe they should make a Mafia 1 remastered or just something like that. It was amazing and was better than 2 & 3
It's been two years since you posted but this is still what we need.
Almost 2020 and this game is awesome on PS4 Pro
Buying this for the story, love me some southern gothica
and playboys..lol
Buy it on sale. It crashes a lot.
123doomdoom yea on Xbox one shir head should have got a ps 4 an now your prolly gunna say you have a ps 4 but I play it on mine an it's never crashed
swagmaster shappy same here.
don't. the missions are the same
there all kill. confront someone
Alright. I'm definitely coppin this, but ima wait for patches to come thru. Gud looks ACG
a patch of 4gb didn't change SHIT.
...do what most people are doing it, Refund if you got it and just Pirate the fuck out of it.
first time watching one of your reviews, I am a TH-camr and really look for honest and creative content to break the mold of ad focused payed out 2 minute reviews, i'm gonna sub for the simple fact I trust your opinion and it measures really well to a scenario if we had a conversation in person, I think we would get along really well. take care I'll see you in the next one.
Everyone should send this review to Hangar 13 and 2K games! Excellent work, ACG!
this is one case where after hearing you out, I went ahead and got the game anyway.
Who’s here from PS Plus August 2018?
Hear, hear. The current Plus games don't grab me, so playing this one instead. It's a reasonably good time, though I agree about the padding. I think the basic storyline would have made a phenomenal Max Payne style linear game, while as an open world it's just so-so
still miss the best driving from mafia 1 ; (
Everyone's talking about the graphics..
Talked about in the video
you did, I was talking about the comments section. everyone else is so concerned with the graphics instead of actual game play.
I see sorry. Its very hard to tell on a thread this busy
no worries, I should have stated that from the beginning, also, good review.
Syuna I was so hyped it was my birthday october 9th my mom got me mafia 3 i played it was good for a few hours it's so repetitive even saints row 3 is better
Your script and review is so concise and well written. Subbed. You bring back memories of writing thesis papers.
glad you like the videos
I remember back in the day, they used to release fully polished games (says in grandpa voice)
4:23 The rear view mirror looks horrible like out of a ps2 game wtf?
I lost it at "the level of corruption was so high it shows up on blood test." I love this channel and your reviews!
lol thanks
funny how ign is fully staffed yet they don't have the review up and their GoW 4 review still "in progress". keep up the good work Karak, now get some sleep.
thanks
God of War 4 doesnt even have a release date yet....
Man your analogies are hilarious. I watch all these reguardless of whether I care about the game or not.
Such an honest review. I'd rather for ACG to lead the country than any other president
thanks Alfred spread the word
make gaming great again!
Definitely a buy. I like the story. Apparently, I'm one of the few?
yeah i think mafia 3 is pretty good
I'm with you
I like it too so far
With so many amazing gangster movies out there, I have no idea why you'd want to play this broken game for the story.
Cloud Stratus Don't know. Maybe because I love playing games.
This game just doesn't seem like a Mafia title to me. Disappointing, for me personally
I'm not buying this. When i Heard about Mafia 3, I thought ok give me somethign like Mafia 1, story driven linear (not open world I'm tired of that)game based on some real Mobsters from 20s 30s or even later like from movie Godfather somethin like that.
It doesn't seem like a "Mafia" title to you... Oh, great another nostalgic cliche fan
Mafia 1 was also open world. It's an integral part of the series at this point, you can't take the open world out of Mafia.
yinyang not in a GTA manner
RandomUser M Well I dont want, atleast i dont want it always :) I love it in a rpg obviously, but can't say for other genres..
I hope that Hanger 13 is able to resolve a lot of these issues because that game is a work of art with tech issues heavily weighing it down.
ya sucks because there is awesome there
FANTASTIC REVIEW!!
I love your matter of fact style reporting. The questions I ask are immediately answered and your unbias review is refreshing. Also a fan that you don't try to be funny and that you aren't ummmhhing and ahhhing your way through your narrative. I am now a subscriber of your gaming videos..ty John
my thanks man
Was literally just about to go to the store and buy this.... Pretty bummed :( But glad I watched it, great review as always.
brendanbeast123 me too mate lol
shouldn't be that bummed. the bugs will get patched in a few days most likely. after that, you will have a great game with a 30+ story with great pacing and fantastic characters. plus more story arcs are coming in dlc.
I'm going to wait until that happens. And IF that happens.
Nah man, I've been playing this game for the past 8 straight hours. Epic story, good gameplay and descent graphics. Worth buying, definitely more so than anything thats came out over the last year so far.
I've played 15 hours so far, no crazy bugs, no framerate drops. This is my GOTY.
I wonder if we are all playing the same game lol
Played it, great soundtrack and graphics
The game is so fucking boring, rinse and repeat constantly
yeah i guess racing games are also rinse and repeat, since you just you know - fucking drive.
dumb casual.
ReFL3X
Filthy casual.
CyclonicDeath Yeah definitely a casual. I've played 3 hours of the fucking game and you just do the same shit again. It's the definition of a casual game and you aren't even that good at trolling tbh.
CyclonicDeath XD have a good night anyway and enjoy your trolling you're good at it.
ReFL3X
hey sorry lmao
cheers
Despite the review, I went ahead and picked this up on ps4. I'm experiencing no frame drops or crashes. Given the time the review went live, I'm really doubting this was tested with the day 1 patch.
lol it was already proven many times. Or are you thinking all those folks here getting crashes right that minute are also a massive grand conspiracy to prove your point?
I never said that. Just stating my counter experience. It's not affecting everyone (or even most) from what I can tell. Let's apply some decency and not make assumptions about people and avoid putting words int heir mouths, shall we?
You didn't state your counter experience. You didn't pay attention to the comments, video, or description.
The word experience is clearly stated in my comment... But alright I guess...
my cocktail is Hudgens
I am new here and stumbled onto your channel for a review of GoW 4. . .SUPER impressed with the review format!! Instant sub and had to go back to your review of GTA V (one of my favorite current games), and I have to give you props for your honest, non-biased, multi-pronged approach to reviewing. In depth would be an understatement these are GREAT and keep up the good work M8!
+A2DaJ Gaming my thanks msn
Hi Karak, been following your reviews for bout a year now. Cant go back to the 5 minute on the surface reviews after these. Please dont ever change your review format even when you become big and hit 2-3 mil subs, which i know you will in no time.
I wont
Amazing review as usual. Thank you.
Love your review! Very well made, good humour and you opinion well projected. May I just request the section when you reviewed sounds like the sound of the cars, could you play a sample so we can relate to what you're reviewing? I loved the visual review where you showed evidence of what you have experience. Thank you for the video!
thank you
You got my sub. This is my first time ive seen one of your reviews and its a shame not more are like it. Well done!
thanks man glad you liked it
It looks really interesting, and sounds like maybe we finally have a true open-world Mafia game, but the technical problems worry me.
I'm on PS4 and haven't experienced none of these crashes and technical issues you spoke of.
thats good man> Sadly all these other folks posting all over the thread and elsewhere have. But thats awesome for you!
ACG > yeah I know we all have different experiences but I watched a few videos and I've heard everyone complaining about the same thing.. So I hope I'm not speaking too soon lol anyway great video.
lol lets hope not. Enjoy brother
Love mafia games, currently downloading this as we speak. Awesome review as usual!
Mick Habich Skyrim is the best game ever
I have enevr played the old skyrim But i am looking forward for that. The only game that i have pre ordered is bf1 but not the premium.
+Trippy Mc Trip holds you by the hand and is linear do you hear yourself.. 400 hours plus gameplay and its linear your really funny... yet somehow the game is rated as one of the best rpg games in the world a top among the top yet it wasnt awarded for its linearity, congrats bravo youve been stupped
you dont know what linear means
I already own the game and am still watching your review.. My thoughts, best thing is gunplay, worst thing is graphics, there's all over the place with lighting, draw distance is terrible with noticeable black lines where only half the pixels are loaded until you get close up! Plus you can't jump which winds me up haha. The map is also not as big as everyone thought pre release, like half the size of GTA 5. But it's fun for just shooting things up, the cover is solid and stealth mode well done.
agreed
The quality, depth and focus in these reviews is phenomenal, I don't know how i missed your channel until now, but this is an easy sub. Good work.
thanks Zevin
I respect your ratings but what would it be if all the technical stuff was fixed tomorrow? I think the review should have an evergreen aspect to it where the "launch day" problems don't totally skew the rating for people that check it out months or years later.
+Jon Coulter they ask for money day one though. Gaming isnt a charity or loan service.
Reviews are done on the games as they are, not what they're going to be.
Yeah, but I'd really appreciate a perhaps secondary opinion of the games rating taking the technical stuff out of the picture.
I literally buy or "don't buy" games based on your opinions, but I cannot recall you giving a game a "good" rating when you are talking about the fun of the game and then saying "don't buy, because of day one bugs."
Given that I won't buy it on day one anyway, what do I then do a month from now when technical stuff is fixed?
Are you going to do a follow up / update to the review if all of that is sorted out? Isn't that doing a disservice to your fans if you have a "rent" rating on a game based on a fact that is no longer true?
"That's complete separate from the fact that I may love the story and LOVE a great deal of the gameplay"
I mean I totally understand that companies should stop doing shitty day-one versions of games -- so call them out on that.
I'm not saying this is good or bad, I'm just saying I'd like an opinion from my favorite reviewer that is more... timeless.
I'm invested enough in ACG's reviews that he could not give a final buy/rent/wait rating and I could draw my own conclusion... which in this case would be "wait for them to fix their shit, and then it is a buy."
But because there *is* a conclusion, and it is basically "don't waste your money" I'm left to question all the other statements made within the review itself. In other words, the day one technical problems totally invalidate all the things he liked about the game.. and some day the game might run buttery smooth and still have all those good things, but the "final score" will still be "don't waste your money."
Right on man..keep up the good work
thanks
Those graphics look like ps3/360
Adam Smasher Jfc, say anything about the damn game. But the graphics? That it fucking nailed without any doubt, and you must be blind af if you say otherwise.
lol you need to put on some specs.
you might need glasses lol
Adam Smasher u need glasses
Adam Smasher are u on drugs ?
As a mafia one fan , this franchise is dead :'(
k
so true, mafia one story was just amazing.
THEFLUFFYARMY you realize there were different mafias right? I mean... you can't stay the same forever eventually people are gonna want something new
Mafia 1 was classic
Mafia 1 was classic but Mafia 3 story Mafia 1 story look like kiddie story.mafia 3 is amazing
Thank you so much!! I don't know how you manage to release reviews so fats (probably a lot of coffee), but keep it up.
thanks
looks I may be giving this a miss then. just another one to add to the rapidly growing list of disappointing games. what on earth is happening, these last couple of years have been horrendous for this.
Yeah. Tho, I am used to wait few months after launch for game to be finished. What cant be fixed is that gameplay wise new games are unimpressive.
rob finn between this and watch dogs, bf1 better not disappoint
I never ever pay full price for a game anymore. I buy them used or get them on sale, doesn't matter what game it is.
And the 2016 saga of all AAA releases (other than blood and wine and doom) being totally disappointing continues.
Dylan Palmer Legion and Overwatch are great though, and how more AAA than Blizzard can you go? Also, there's Uncharted 4.
and Forza 3
Waqib Hussain I mean, that's a bit of an aggressive question. I would never play Mafia III even if it was heralded as a great game, because I don't like this genre of game. I would only ever base my opinion of this game by reviews from people because I'll never play it. I watched this review because it's supposed to be a GOTY contender, but it seems it won't be now.
overwatch
deus ex mankind divided was pretty awesome...certainly one of the top game of the year...
Your reviews are always so thorough and well thought out, appreciate it.
thanks Cory
Can we change Lincoln's clothes ?
Not yet! But a car-customization and clothing update will release soon.
Lawa Ye what you said cuz those army fatigues getting on my nerves too
sources for that update?
Hahah I agree, looks shit
Check the twitter account for Mafia 3, the developers announced clothing customization and DLC last month.
" *As always, if you like the video.. eh, maybe subscribe* "
I always wait for this line (I'm sad, I know)
its cool
I wish they hadn't called this game freaking Mafia, of all things.
Also, nice hedge trimmer at 4:50, good god.
I just started watching your videos, but let me just say your format is refreshing, and I look forward to watching more content from you.
thanks
Thanks for the quick review. I think you were one of the first people out with a review. Definitely helped me make a decision on whether I should day 1 purchase.
+Zachary Perry you bet
Maybe I just got lucky, but during complete playthroughs shortly after release, I never had any of those crashing issues on XB1 or PC.
The one let down is no multiplayer online other than that superb game i would recommend a easy buy for this game.
i agree so far no problems i only had one crash and thats it.
Lol that's a problem. you can't say you had no problems but it crashed on you
Got Mafia 3 sitting comfortably with 0 hours played on steam right now. Hoping that this weekend the FPS gets unlocked and I'll play it but even then with what I've seen here and other streamers even with a FPS increase it seems that this game has a lot of technical problems which is a true shame as this was one of my most anticipated games for the year. Great review as always :)
awesome and thanks!
The amount of information you have in the review in very impressive. Well done bro.
thanks man
well now I am glad I didn't have enough cash to pre order this
This is the first review I've come across that didn't sound like a corporate goon/yes man, thank you.
no probs
Rockstar should have made this game.
They already did, they're called GTA Vice city and GTA Liberty city Stories
+Narred Darr Wasn't RDR riddled with a lot of bugs and glitches too? I know it was for me.
Narred Darr That was a nice lengthy reply that had nothing to do with what anyone here said. Good job man
Narred Darr
God bless amerikuh, indeed.
If they do that from now on they have to be fair, and rate the next gta, farcry, or red dead redemption a zero if they use the witcher 3 as a metric
thanks brother
ACG Hey great review! im between this or the nathan drake collection, what do you say?
Thongmaster Witcher 3 was trash, don't know why people liked it. The gameplay is way worse then this game
Great review but I haven't had any crashes at all so far and I'm about 6 hours in
+Dustin Schulte thats gteat
And Mafia 1 is still the best.
Loved Mafia 1
Oyeah!
How would a game be if the same team, with the same energy as back then when they made mafia 1, made a game today? :o
yep... is getting worse and worse...not buying this.
Game james
Some missions was boring yes.
Mafia 2 is pretty good, i liked mafia 2 because i like italian mafia, so mafia 3 is just gta 5.5 to me, boring for me,
The main thing that I can't get over with this game is the absolutely terrible texture popping. I noticed it first from Angry Joe and now from ACG and it just bothered me the entire time watching this video. Plus there are absolutely no textures from the rear view mirror while in a car. That is just unacceptable in my opinion it just completely breaks immersion for me.
true
So ACG is this game still a wait for sale if they fix the BIG technical issues. I'm just a huge fan of the 60's so waiting is killing me.
dont know. I would need to play it again for awhile to see
do you plan on playing it again?
I downloaded the game from xbox live and haven't experienced any of the problems people are talking about.I make mods and learned the hard way that you shouldn't just rush and install a game on your pc without making sure everything is updated, even if it seems to be unrelated to whatever the problem may be, it might just be the right fix for it.And anyone talking about video game repetiveness should also mention the gears of war franchise and this is coming from a fan/frequent player of the games.
Good review as always ACG but damn they really need to add clothing options. I know they confirmed they're gonna add it as free dlc but the fact that the sequel had different outfits and why this one decided to not have it in the first place is beyond me
The latest patch really improved the graphical problems on the PlayStation 4. Runs lovely now.
colin419
Cool I might pick it up then
Crashes, 30 Fps locked and low textures on PC. Nah pass.
Ps Plus free this month, here we go!
It sucks when you feel like you're fighting a game just to play it.
Glad I found your channel. Your reviews are organized and straight to the point. +1 Subscriber
thanks man
superb review
appreciate that
Agreed. Like all new releases I have an interest in, I always check to see if he has a review up before I purchase.
Thanks B you saved a lot of people $60. Will pick this up and play when its super cheap.
It just went on Humble Bundle for one of the three games you get from next month's bundle if you pay early for the monthly.
Damn the city is soooo dead...even gta 5 los santos is more alive....
The population actually seems about right for New Orleans, Los angles is a much more populated city so it makes sense for GTA 5 to have more people. Though the highways could be more populated in Mafia 3.
Well gta 5 got boring after the story and you couldnt enter buildings so it makes sense that it was more alive outside and better graphically xD
σπάνια γυναίκα είσαι συ! 😂
in what way is it dead?? Gta5 map was like an empty shell i can drive through in 30 seconds , this map is soooo much better more personality, more buildings to go it with different vibes , everything about this map is better lol
The NPCs are lifeless. They have interesting conversations but thats about it. U run into them and they won't. U crash into their and the most they'll do is honk their horn. They barely interact
I've never seen any of your reivews before, but this was a really really good review. thank you!
glad you liked it man
Thanks for another awesome review ACG!! I'm gonna wait till the issues have been patched out..
Keep up the good work mate! Cheers.. 👍✌
I was hoping for some classic motorcycles in the game but it doesn't seem to even have any haha.
no biker gang nor harleys tf is this game only kkk members this game is for black ppl that dispise whites
man I still want to buy this but I know I shouldn't
Steam Sale candidate of the year
what a shame last night I was watching gameplay and those cut scenes of the in game documentary are so awesome and addicting I couldn't stop I felt like I wanted to grab the popcorn, too bad it's buggy ACG great job as usual please keep us updated on patches I think with some patches it could jump up in score up a bit I knew something felt off glad I waited battlefield 1 and Titan fall 2 I guess it is
ACG for the win! I just subscribed. Some great quality work you are doing here ,man.
thanks sir
