Okay as a Vikings fan, I can say that Jets fans sound a lot like Vikings fans criticizing Kirk Cousins a few years back. Kirk was actually playing at a decent level, but Vikings fans wanted to pin any and all bad plays on him.. Admittedly, 4 or 5 of the 6 or so plays Zach could've done better came later in the game, so I understand the frustration, But here is a precise breakdown of what happened. The numbers probably aren't 100 percent accurate because I'm watching the World Cup and doing other stuff while compiling it, and I'm not double checking anything. But you should get the gist. One point I'd like to make is that the Jets almost never run slants, which is freaking absurd. Most the routes are slow build-ups by receivers not making sharp cuts to fool anyone. 5 third and shorts, no slant routes but 1 curl reminiscent of a slant. The curl came on that last third down that Zach threw out to the flank for essentially the Jets death knell given the proceeding special teams letdown. The curl was actually open for a first. Should Zach have hit him? Yes. But I'll say that given the collapsing pocket, the receiver was hard to see, and I think the play may have been designed to go fast to the flank. 8 third and medium/long, no slant routes except once one soft (ineffective) delayed slant, 2 conversions, 1 coverage sack, 1 thrown away ball against double coverage. Once on 3rd and 10 on a four receiver set (plus back), none of the receivers even ran to the sticks (face palm), 2 pressure sacks 10 passes down field, 1 dropped, 1 blocked at line. 1 PI not called, 1 bomb caught, 1 more caught, 1 dumb pass dropped by a Patriot, 1 ball under thrown (Zach throws that on a line or puts more air under it, and that's 30 or 40 yard play), 1 receiver caught the ball out of bounds (some duress, but Zach too cute with the side armed pass, needed better mechanics), out route thrown way too soft and almost picked off; it would've been a completion probably with some heat on the ball). The problem is that Zach took a lot of criticism for being a gunner, and now he is being too soft on throws 15 yards and down the field. But he otherwise played well in that game. The utter lack of slants is utterly stupid if you're looking for someone to blame. That's on the offensive coordinator. Furthermore, the tight end almost never runs go routes to draw away defenders or find a seem. It's all reliant on receivers making 12 yard or more routes that are not crisp. This was horrendous for Zach, horrendous for MLF and horrendous for special teams. But most of it is on ZW. There were several plays there to be made that he just didn’t. With better QB play, that’s a W all day long. Defense didn’t deserve this.
If anyone here has followed these videos over his career, there is such a different feel to who he was weeks 1-4, and towards the back end of the season compared to now. I don’t think he makes some of the explosive throws he made in some of these games. Yeah, LaFleur shouldn't have missed wide open checkdowns, totally his fault. This is one of the worst qb performances we've seen in a while, people trying to excuse it are laughable. He completed 9 passes, and threw 3 right to the defense, but surely it's not his fault.
Why our offense sucked: The pats stacked the box like crazy all game, so we couldn’t run because there was a crazy amount of patriots at the line of scrimmage. There were receivers that had gotten open behind the pats defense and literally everywhere, Zach saw those receivers and for some reason held on to the ball or threw it extremely late. Once his first read had gotten covered he faltered in the pocket. He couldn’t make simple throws an nfl quarterback should be able to make. Our oline (even though it is very injured) was able to give Zach enough time to throw the ball yet, since Zach sucks he created his own pressure by reacting to minimal pressure very badly in the first place, leading to him moving bad in the pocket therefore, making the offensive line’s job very hard. What I’m trying to say is that Zach is why our offense sucked, our offensive coordinator had some bad calls but he also did enough for us to win that game. Zach is not an nfl worthy Qb and he had lost us that game. 77 yards for 21 passing attempts with a 50.8 passer rating.🤢🤮 Edit: I also forgot about terrible footwork
Watching this kid throw, it becomes quickly apparent that he's not trying to pass with accuracy, he's trying to get the ball out of his hands as quickly as possible. It's like he's trying to imitate Aaron Rodgers... but without any of the finesse or accuracy. He's just flinging it in the air and being like: "Hopefully my WR can get in the vicinity of the ball." As of now, he's not good. His entire approach to throwing the ball is out of wack.

This was horrendous for Zach, horrendous for MLF and horrendous for special teams. But most of it is on ZW. There were several plays there to be made that he just didn’t. With better QB play, that’s a W all day long. Defense didn’t deserve this.

That’s the issue with the team, it’s not necessarily a bad issue cux the team is winning but their number 2 overall pick isn’t on the same timeline as the rest of the team, they went out and loaded up the defense and offensive weapons meanwhile they still have a developing quarterback who isn’t ready for that yet. The dude has all the potential in the world to be a top 5 qb in the league but mentally he is so far from harnessing that

Terrible vision, terrible timing on the passes, slow processing.. he’s late to make throws.. he process too slow. Those are hard to coach man.. he panics in the pocket and scrambles out a lot. I don’t think he will ever be good. Slow release as well.

I agree that La fleur made his offense predictable by running the same six plays repeatedly but he also had given Zach Wilson many reads and Zach couldn’t do anything with them, on top of that he panicked under pressure like crazy.

Yeah, LaFleur shouldn't have missed wide open checkdowns, totally his fault. This is one of the worst qb performances we've seen in a while, people trying to excuse it are laughable. He completed 9 passes, and threw 3 right to the defense, but surely it's not his fault.

Why our offense sucked: The pats stacked the box like crazy all game, so we couldn’t run because there was a crazy amount of patriots at the line of scrimmage. There were receivers that had gotten open behind the pats defense and literally everywhere, Zach saw those receivers and for some reason held on to the ball or threw it extremely late. Once his first read had gotten covered he faltered in the pocket. He couldn’t make simple throws an nfl quarterback should be able to make. Our oline (even though it is very injured) was able to give Zach enough time to throw the ball yet, since Zach sucks he created his own pressure by reacting to minimal pressure very badly in the first place, leading to him moving bad in the pocket therefore, making the offensive line’s job very hard. What I’m trying to say is that Zach is why our offense sucked, our offensive coordinator had some bad calls but he also did enough for us to win that game. Zach is not an nfl worthy Qb and he had lost us that game. 77 yards for 21 passing attempts with a 50.8 passer rating.🤢🤮

Watching this kid throw, it becomes quickly apparent that he's not trying to pass with accuracy, he's trying to get the ball out of his hands as quickly as possible. It's like he's trying to imitate Aaron Rodgers... but without any of the finesse or accuracy. He's just flinging it in the air and being like: "Hopefully my WR can get in the vicinity of the ball." As of now, he's not good. His entire approach to throwing the ball is out of wack.

I think Zach struggled but how about a complimentary run game? The offensive line didn't play well either. It's was ugly but I think Zach will be fine. It also looked like the Patriots had a good defensive game plan. Remember Zach is still a kid. Look at the all time great QB's in this league and how they did their first few years. This is a successful building year for the Jets.

In my opinion people are slightly overreacting with Zach and underreacting with Lefleur. He’s constantly getting support for being a mid coordinator. He can’t run a passing offense to save his life.
