Do you penalise the late challenge for kicking him even though he came off worse? The correct answer is yes you should.
you said no matter the circumstances. if you cant try to block a shot as close as possible to the ball because you cant show studs then defenders are just being hamstrung by the rules. its already bad enough with some of the point blank handballs that get given. I understand wanting to protect players but at some point you lose the game of football and it becomes a non contact sport

not really. if a player is standing still with his footup in the air and someone kicks it, the other player should be getting a yellow
