I lived summers in Hazard with my grandma stacy, she lived near the cemetary. we went to the goose many times. For food when it was a market. With my sister in the 50's when she was in high school, the goose was like a happy days hangout. I was very young but i remember well. My family moved to Michigan when i was 12 yr's old. the rest was just time. I live in Fl. now. In my 70's still miss upper second creek, but the last time I was there it didn't look the same. At least I have good memories.
We stayed in Hazard over the Summer to help out with disaster relief after the flood and honestly, as poor as they are, this is some of the nicest people I've ever met
Back in 1983 I was in the Job Corps in Prestonsburg, Ky. There were a few guys there at the Job Corps that were from Hazard. One weekend we went to a "Black Gold" festival there in Hazard. Funny thing at the time there were a few businesses there with the name of Boss Hogg. I had always wondered what ever happened to those guys I made friends with. I left in 1984. One of them was a short guy that had long blond hair by the name of Roy ( do not remember last name). Then there were these 2 brothers with the last name of Gibson, I simply called them the Gibson brothers ( I do not remember their first names) Hazard was a cool place to visit.
Very cool video, I have done a special project about the state of kentucky in grade school. I am planning to come and visit I am a railfan, I am a big fan of both CSXT and the Norfolk Southern Railroads
I was born in Hazard. this is not the old Hazard. the roads and building were much higher from the river than in this video. The original town had very narrow streets, and it followed the river only higher than the banks you show here. My family still owns a gas station on the main road at the base of the LaSidale [spelling} Inn high on the mountain.I lived in upper second creek, all the way to the end. VERY POOR. I live in florida now. still miss my home in KY. Growing up as a child there was the happiest time of my life. we did not know we were poor.
@@joshuacollins3326 I know your comment is old. But, I'm a Collins, whose kin came from Hazard. We're probably related... lol I've not found a Collins I WASN'T related to from Hazard, yet. Have family still on Grapevine & Bonneyman. I'd like to know if you could help with any Collins history there. Sorry for asking so late. Just saw this video & any response would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
