+Hajssięzgadza My condolences brave one, may he rest in peace now. Althought I don't know who you are, and where you are, I'm with you my friend. If you need someone to talk, I'm here.
My father's downstairs neighbour was a hardcore Deep Purple fan since he was a teenager, since around the same time he discovered he had severe epilepsy. He had every album, EP, demo or bootleg from Deep Purple he could get his hands on. He even ordered Deep Purple releases from the master copy, claiming he could get better audio quality that way. His epilepsy was, apparently, so debilitating that he could not maintain a normal job, or let alone a normal life. Every evening he would wake up and listen to Deep Purple albums all night, in the early morning he would do groceries and then go to bed and then repeat the same the next day. He did this for decades, until his death. He was found dead in his bed a couple years ago, decomposing, after neighbours started complaining about the smell. Apparently, all his belongings where destroyed. He was a sweet man, emotionally underdeveloped, but very sweet. I believe he lived until his mid to late 50s. So here you go man, in honor to you I'm having a drink and listening to my favorite Deep Purple song, which reminds me of you.

Much better than any cover version out there. This is a song about loneliness. We can all be blind to things in life. Loneliness is the hardest road you will ever walk. Peace of mind is everything in life. Everything. You can be lonely in a crowded room, or lonely in a relationship. Good song. Great guitar playing by the mecurial Ritchie Blackmore !

This is just a wonderful track brilliant as always Deep Purple, if your ever feeling down or hard done by listen to this and you realise how lucky you are
A one of a kind, somber masterpiece. Ian Gillan and Ritchie Blackmore were a duo that at their peak, could not be topped (in my opinion). The rest of the band adds the perfect support to this masterpiece.
Ian Paice said in the 2002 Classic Albums - Machine Head dvd that it should have been included on the album. Would have been a nice closer imo. Mind you Space Truckin' wasn't too shabby.
The softest, most harmonious, most suave, most pure, most classy, most beautifull guitar solo in the history of rock. Please, if you have better let me know !
I don’t understand what he means by ‘I’m a blind man…’ like because of what?if you could give me your explanation it would be great!!(excuse my English)
Just to set the record straight, for those people who say this was not on the Machine Head album. "When A Blind Man Cries" was recorded at the same sessions as the " Machine Head" material, but was left off the original album because in the days of Vinyl there just wasn't room for it. However, it was put on the B side of the "Never Before" single, and then was later added to it's rightful place, when "Machine Head" came out on CD (25th Anniversary Edition) I hope that clears up any confusion. x
According to the Classic Albums documentary on Machine Head, this song was left out because Blackmore hated it. Apparently he never played it live. It is unfathomable why he did that, since this has one of his greatest solos.
You are correct, they had to leave something off the album, because in the days of vinyl, they could only use a maximum of 40 minutes of material. In selecting what to leave off, Blackmore selected this track as he didn't like it (apparently) and also it was a little slow (after the "Fireball" album had disappointing sales, they were trying to release an album with as much "Punch" as the "In Rock" album, and therefore didn't feel a blues track would fit the bill (as there was no slow blues on "In Rock".) So glad it was re-instated when Cd's came out! :-)
40 minutes isn't the maximum lenght of a vinyl album. For an example, "UFO 2: Flying" by UFO has running time over 50 minutes. The lenght of the first pressing of "Machine Head" was 37:48, so there was no problem with room for this song.
Ritchie Blackmore was in his best moments when he played this solo. Sadly enough, he was the main reason behind the collapse of the greatest band in Rock history.
my dad played a lot of deep purple when i was a kid also he played a lof of their music in his band back in the 70s.... love them... currently learning highway stars solo on guitar
What would I not give to hear a Ray Charles cover of this masterpiece, he's the only one who could have probably beat those guys with his already emotional vocals and his first hand experience with the lyrics
Around 1975 my older cousin gave me cassette tapes of DP machine head, BS Paranoid and LZ 4. I thought all three were equally brilliant. However, the more I listened the more I found in DP. Whether it was the Jon Lord factor that the other 2 never had, the Gillan vocal range, or Ian Paice magic I always found something new every time I listened to a song. I never looked back. DP has dominated my musical taste from start to now.
Who's still listening to this magic in 2024?!

Love Ritchie's solo on clean tone and Jon's organ distorted bit by bit.
One of the best song of DP! I love it!
Amazing that Ritchie Blackmore said he didnt like this, such a great song, emotive and soulful
Just listened to Child in Time for the first time, and though to myself, nothing can better such a masterpeice...then i listened to this....Wow.
This sends me to another place!
If you are blind I hope you find your way back. !!! 😢
Best song in history of rock . Literally lyrics, composition everything.. is masterpiece.
...is masterpiece.
Wouldn't go that far but ok...
Ritchie's Sole made the guitar cry with sorrow. !
Dammit it Richie !!!
Yur solo's always haunting !
Poetry for the soul.
+Ana Laura Leyva Luna very true
i love the songs
Bryant Pace beautifully said!

You know it, girl 💜
Rock Legend. I love this band since i was 15.
Now im 52 and still playing with it.
If you're leaving, close the door
I'm not expecting people, anymore
Hear me grieving, lying on the floor
Whether I'm drunk or dead, I really ain't too sure
I'm a blind man
I'm a blind man
And my world is pale
When a blind man cries
Lord, you know
There ain't a sadder tale
Had a friend once, in a room
Had a good time, but it ended much too soon
In a cold month, in that room
We found a reason, for the things we had to do
I'm a blind man
I'm a blind man
Now my room is cold
When a blind man cries
Lord, you know
He feels it from his soul

I raise you ten...
Iim 66 in Ireland, Dp keeps me goin.👍🎼🇨🇮
One of the songs that hurts my heart.
And the mine too.
Ευλογία να ακούμε αυτούς τους αγγέλους να κιθαρωδούν και να τραγουδούν. Άπειρες ευχαριστίες για την μουσική μαγεία.
What great piece of guitar by the great Richie Blackmore also proves purple were much more than a thrash band timeless classic
This is just a wonderful track brilliant as always Deep Purple, if your ever feeling down or hard done by listen to this and you realise how lucky you are
Шедевр.. а мне 25 лет, между прочем. «Молодежь» еще не потеряна. Приучайте детей к настоящей музыке!
С этой песни началась моя карьера ударника, и басиста. Спасибо Батя!
This track demonstrates how good this band were. Thanks for the inspiration that created this. 2019 needs this again.
rock blues classic. love this one so dark and hard hitting. off my favourite deep purple album machinehead.
So graceful! Specially the second verse, the piano gets me all the time.
A one of a kind, somber masterpiece. Ian Gillan and Ritchie Blackmore were a duo that at their peak, could not be topped (in my opinion). The rest of the band adds the perfect support to this masterpiece.
I have been a Deep Purple fan since when I first heard my older brothers listening Smoke on the water. Awesome band.
Amazing song that doesn't really get listed in the best of Purple. Overlooked, I'd say. It's got it all. Great Gillan, melody, emotion.
We were all Blind Men here.
Grateful my room’s not cold anymore.
Love this song!
I don’t understand what he means by ‘I’m a blind man…’ like because of what?if you could give me your explanation it would be great!!(excuse my English)
This is what I call a great guitar solo. Is really hard to beat..... what a beautiful construction..... one of my favorite songs ever
Great song, from start to finish. Really love the outro.
with out doubt the ultimate rock band first heavy rock band i got into 1971.what a year.richie blackmore could make his strat talk.
Simple and genuine
.....you can literally feel the sorrow and grieving..... awesome !!
Aunindyo, no lie. This is a great song with a fantastic solo by Blackmore. Pity they didn't play it live back when Gillan's voice was in its prime.
40 minutes isn't the maximum lenght of a vinyl album. For an example, "UFO 2: Flying" by UFO has running time over 50 minutes. The lenght of the first pressing of "Machine Head" was 37:48, so there was no problem with room for this song.
correct.
My Favorite song my father from Deep Purple..... masterpiece ✨👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you so much for making this masterpiece available to all, really thanks man.
Its very difficult to understand the pain, if its from the person who cannot see the world - yet he cries .... wonderful imagination !!! Deepurple
Ritchie Blackmore was in his best moments when he played this solo. Sadly enough, he was the main reason behind the collapse of the greatest band in Rock history.
It wasn't just Blackmore.
What exactly happened, I've listened to many different versions of the story.
Those guitar notes at 1:10 can bring a tear in driest of eyes...👌👌👌
Wow this song gives me goosebumps. A nice tune and melody is what I need in a night to spend.
my dad played a lot of deep purple when i was a kid also he played a lof of their music in his band back in the 70s.... love them... currently learning highway stars solo on guitar
