Thank you so much! This buys me some more time to find a new mechanism! My knees were touching the steering column and it was definitely not safe! My husband couldn't even fit! We really appreciate the help! The mechanic I took it too said there was no way to manually reset it, in his defense, he's a German mechanic not used to American vehicles (we're stationed in Germany) and wasn't sure if he could fix the problem in the first place. Thanks again!
Thank you for your time. You saved me lots of money. I was looking on line for seat motors. Wow, they are expensive. $139.00 plus. That is too much to spent on a seat motor. But now, you saved me the headache and money, God bless you and your family.
Perfect! I saw the place to put the bit, just assumed the track was in a bind. Tried this and it went right back... Great temporary fix to a almost 20 year old vehicle!
Thank you so much! I took my van to the shop today for an inspection and when I picked it up my seat would not move forward. I used a #2 square bit and it worked great. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
You saved me! I was waiting for my replacement power seat control to come in which is taking forever and needed to get my middle seat up right away! Luckily I found that weird square bit.
Thank you very much. That took me 5 minutes and is good enough. I'm 6-8 tall and use the stow n go monthly. Replacement parts not available through Napa.
Thank you so much ... my 2007 Chrysler town and country touring van was doing the same thing would not go forward or backward .... I had to get my hideaway seat back up and I could not do it ... I had to move the electric seat forward . I got my hideaway seat back up then I got my drill and moved the electric seat back... thanks once again in showing how to fix this problem ....
Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!! Your van is the exact model that I have and is virtually a carbon copy - I am going right now to move my seat back - again - Thank You! I have a 2005 Town & Country
Seat fuse is the quickest to get it to move. Sorry, I have the same issue. Just remove it for ten-minutes or so, then plug it back in. It is an electrical issue in having so much electronics on one main line. however, this is not a fix. You need to see what is causing this problem (switch? power module? capacitors?)
Now that was so helpful. My passenger side won't move at all so thank you for showing me this. Can you add a link to the drill bit that you guys were using, please?
Been trying to remove front seat because we can't get the stow n go seat out that's behind it - front seat blocks it from coming up. The divers seat goes back and forth on left side but doesn't move on right. This trick worked for a quick second on just the driver's door side of the seat the other side of the seat is still stuck back
How did you disconnect the plastic cover in order to access the piece you eventually moved! I unscrewed the one screw that secures the plastic cover, but see the back end is still attached to the lower rear part of the seat as well. I don’t want to force-pull anything that shouldn’t be pulled.
Thank you! I'm driving a group of teenagers to a church camp this week, and was afraid I'd be stuck with my knees in the dashboard! This quick fix worked. Does anyone know if there is a longer-term fix so I don't have to use a drill every time?
It's been a long time since I made this video. I don't remember the size. Scroll down the comments and someone mentions the size. Any hardware store will have it. Sorry I couldn't be more specific
Quick question. Once you did this procedure, where you able to get the seat motor working again? Or did it stay ceased up. Reason I ask is because I have a 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan that's doing the same thing. Seat won't go backwards or forwards. I've checked voltage going to the motor and got voltage at the connector, but when I apply power to it, the motor will try to turn and then go out. I am going to try your method tomorrow. Thanks for posting this.
Thanks. I've since been looking for a motor all over the place and I have yet to find one. I did find some other information about possibly dissecting the motor and replacing the two brushes inside of it that make contact with the commutator. I'm told that it's these brushes that actually go bad and not the motor itself. Last time I had to dissect a motor and replace the brushes was on a Rainbow SE Vacuum Cleaner which I had completely forgotten about since it was over eleven years ago.
I'm going to try this tomorrow, but, your assistant at the end of this video moved the seat via the switch on the side (why use the drill method if the seat moves via the switch?)
Dale Giardina it works after using the drill, but it will stop again later. This is not a permanent fix. It only helps you get it back to your preferred position when all else fails.
I have an 06 town and country, seat moves on 1 side but not the other. I used your trick to move the seat forward but I think i went too far forward, any ideas?
nonyas biz I don't know what else to try, without me being there to see the problem. There may be other videos showing how to take the motor apart. I'm sorry that i don't have the answer to that problem.
Same thing happened to my car, but if you take the panel off on the other side of the seat, there is another place to put the square bit. Hope this helps!
Thanks a million for this video. It saved me from unbolting the seat.
Thanks for making this video. Using this information, I was able to "fix" my mother in laws seat. I appreciate your efforts!!!
Thank you for taking the time to make and post this video. You guys are total life savers!
Worked perfectly and freed up the mechanism and it works again now.
So thankful for people who make life saving videos like these. Thank you!

This video was a life saver. My seat was jammed and this fixed it. Thanks!
You saved me not only some money but a bunch of time. Thank you

Dude! This video is soooo helpful. We havent been able to drive it for weeks and were about to pay a mechanic to look at it for us.
OMFG. Old trick, but SO useful. Amazing. Thank you!

Any spots to make it go up ? My motor is fine. It does go back & forth. Would love to be able to quickly fix it to go up. Please let me know.
thank you for posting your video.

I'm sorry , but this video is 8 years old and I no longer have the vehicle in front of me to answer that question

Check Car-parts.com and get a used seat locally. Make sure you test before you buy it.
Awesome, thanks a bunch.
Thank you Ross for this information. My problem is making the seat go up and down in front. (the front of the seat only). Can you help me with that?
Thank you so much!! Pictures were not helping
Thanks anyway I fixed it
Life saver
My seat wont move back when i do this theres nothing blocking the tracks any suggestions on whats wrong?
I'm sorry, but without your vehicle in front of me. There is no way for me to tell you the problem , you're having.
got an '03 Town & Country. Is there a way to manually move the up/down mechanism? Motors just make noise and don't lift the seat.
I really don't know. I no longer have this vehicle. You might check other videos. I'm sure someone has done one since I made this video years ago.
@@rosabarca4300 But unfortunately, they haven't.
Is there the same fix for a seat that won’t incline or decline, nice video.
We no longer own that van, but I'm almost sure there would ba another cable that controls the recliner.
can u tell me where i can get the drill bit thing cause i dont have it
It's been a long time since I made this video. I don't remember the size. Scroll down the comments and someone mentions the size. Any hardware store will have it. Sorry I couldn't be more specific
does anyone have the bit type just happen to me last night
Great video what about the back of the seat you haven’t ate any answers for that
It’s straight up I can’t figure out a way to move it
@@scottmansfield5605 I'm sorry I no longer have access to this vehicle. I'm sure someone else on here maybe able to help

Robbie Stewart it stayed seized unless you replace the motor.

thanks good video
Does this work if the seat it stuck from going up and down
No, it does not. Another cable may control that
I have an 06 town and country, seat moves on 1 side but not the other. I used your trick to move the seat forward but I think i went too far forward, any ideas?
nonyas biz. Just make the drill go in reverse.
Ros Abarca I tried that. Moves on 1 side a little bit but not the other
nonyas biz I don't know what else to try, without me being there to see the problem. There may be other videos showing how to take the motor apart. I'm sorry that i don't have the answer to that problem.
Same thing happened to my car, but if you take the panel off on the other side of the seat, there is another place to put the square bit. Hope this helps!
Hailey Van Dam I did just that. Took the seat out. The tracks are worn out. Seat needs replacing.
So what was the issue...what was broke?????
The seat motor was no good
What if one side moves and the other doesnt on the seat?
Your cable is probably broken. I no longer have this vehicle for me to check out for you, sorry
It worked for me, but then it got stuck in the forward position and now won't go back...
Rock the seat and put the drill reverse direction
what about up and down?
Mr Smith did you find out how if fix the up and down or the forward Tilt? Sure need a hand with this I can hardly reach the pedal.
Chuck Norris , sorry we didn't have that problem. So we never tried to do the up and down.
I'm guessing that this is specific to the Caravan and isn't universal.
That is correct
Mine won't go up or down
We no longer own this van. You might check with other videos. Wish I could help, but we didn't have that problem with ours
#NotAllHerosWearCapes
LOL Thank you
Learn your vehicles dude that's a Chrysler Town and country that is not a Dodge caravan
It was easier for everyone to find on a search. Same seat problems.
thank you!
