Thanks for the shout out. I know a lot of guitar players watch my channel so I focus a lot on the hands on the strings so they can see what the pros are doing.
Holy shit Sayce just gets better and better even when it seems like it’s impossible for him to get any better. Eric Gales and Sayce are the closet thing we have to a modern version of Hendrix and SRV. They have all the chops in the world but also, the soul and feel to go with it which combines together to create a force of nature. Man that so impressive.
Thank you for doing Phillip! Saw him a year before COVID at a tiny place here in Canada, one of the best experiences ever, and he will talk to fans after the show with no issue, great player and even better guy!
Yep. That’s where I know of him originally. I miss Jeff he was the best and I miss him. Blind, playing guitar on his lap with gain. Loved it. Still do. Rip
I’m glad someone said it and appreciated this tour de force in modern blues playing. No one plays like this…no one. Eric Gales can obviously rip and Joe Bonamassa as well and Kenny Wayne Sheppard but I think Phillip is a different kind of animal. He plays with the power of SRV and used Jeff Healey’s insane blues power and style, which a lot of players still aren’t aware of…and combined them into an insanely powerful style of blues guitar I’ve never heard anyone play. Of course you have Hendrix Machine Gun being the best ever but I think, in his own right, Phillip has developed a unique style that is really something special. He’s is easily my favorite modern guitarist especially when it comes to blues. And he could sing his ass off! Phillip is one of the all time greats and probably more technically proficient than most of the blues players who have ever lived. This man needs to be recognized on a much larger platform and appreciated while he is still around and performing. I’d love to see him live and I would of paid almost anything to see him with Jeff, whose solo on “ Can you see the light “ that show Night Music with Marcus Miller playing bass and Dr. John playing keyboard is one of the most devastating guitar solos I’ve ever seen and heard in my life, played sitting down, blind…unreal.
This is really what it's about. All heart and soul, pushing yourself to the limit. Its pure visceral electricity and the greatest thing, imo, about the instrument
Philip is one of my greatest inspirations. Jimi, Stevie and Philip are my Holy Trinity. I've had the great fortune to meet Philip after a show in Hamilton a couple of years ago. We brought my grandfather's 1920s Regal Resonator with us and Philip signed the plate for me. We told him about my grandfather passing the year before. He seemed genuinely honoured that i asked him to sign such a precious instrument.
I love his vibrato! His guitar playing is like if Satriani and Bonamassa had a love child! Thanks for mentioning Vernon Reid and SRV,two of my favorite guitarists ever!
I first became aware of Phillip when he was playing with another Canadian legend, the late, great Jeff Healy. The two of them playing together on the same stage will never be equaled
Love him. Discovered him in the Jeff Healy Band Live at Montreux when he was a teenager. Jeff even let him do a number. Dude has insane chops but his energy kicks it up a notch. Love a song of his called Alchemy.
he is my Guitar Hero. I love his tone and feeling when he plays . its electric and i feel it in my soul in my bones.. brings me to tears when he plays 5:55 and alchemy . I built my strat and my set up based on his ..
Mine too! I saw Frank in the late 70's. Amazing show. Then saw Rory Gallagher open for Rush, they were ok,but he blew my mine with his playing. Also saw April Wine, they were so tight and all 3 guitars were great. Miss those days.
He’s insanely good. How about that Uni- I’ve tone…that was the closet I’ve heard to the original Uni-Vibe units that Hendrix used with that heavy, heavy swirling effect at slow and fast speeds. Just made it so much better. Sayce and Eric Gales are the closet we have today to Hendrix and Stevie Ray.
I play the guitar at a really casual level and 99% of the technical stuff you talk about goes over my head, but I love your passion and you've put me on to some great music I wouldn't otherwise have heard
Where has this guy been all this time?! Or more like where the f**k have I been based on these comments and reading up on him?!! If it wasn’t for TH-cam Shorts I would likely still have remained oblivious to this amazing talent! Having grown up in Toronto 🇨🇦, he is the Canadian SRV with Hendrix and other blues masters sprinkled on top! 🔥🔥🤘
Sayce in my opinion very underrated considering his time in. Nice breakdown as usual love how you walk us through it. He definitely rips that Fender up like it still owes him money.
God damn it michael. You are so amazing. You made this piece even more exciting to listen to and I'm so much more moved by it because of your interpretations and explanations. Thank you
Just ferocious. There's a video titled "Philip Sayce . Alchemy. March 2018." on TH-cam that makes me tear up whenever I hear it. Ever since discovering SRV 2 years ago (and buying a guitar shortly after), Philip has been such a surprise. There's only a handful of dudes playing with this level of intensity and emotion.
Really good analysis here Michael! Been listening to Sayce since Peace Machine (still his best stuff IMHO) and love your deconstruction of this piece. This is just excellent! I read somewhere that they cut his set short this year- not sure what that was about- but he also plays LOUD AF- there's another video up showing the official photographer cover his ears after taking shots- then comes back much later with earplugs- so a ton of Philip's tone is shear volume- Also- nothing beats when he goes to the neck pickup- to me- THAT"s the TONE!
Great to see you checking out Phil's intense brilliance. You'd be hard pressed to find a guitar player on earth who plays with more passion than this man. I consider it an honour to be able to call him a close friend. He's the real deal. I've had the very good fortune to stand in front of players like Stevie Ray Vaughan and to witness their full blown electrical presence and Philip stands along side guitarists like Stevie, no doubt.
i would buy your course just to support you, maybe learn somethin too "lol" but since my inauguration to you was Sayce on 4/30/22 (my birthday) i watched (little i on purpose) nice job 😊 wish my kids didnt cost so much and i could spread it around. Thank you Mike. Im a metal head 🤟🏻🤟🏻 by birth and looked into your vids AWESOME CONTENT! your like a brother for sure. THANK YOU!
Hey Mike. Funny, i just watched this video before i flipped over to your cannel, and now you listening to it! Lol. Sounds like it might be time for a string change on that stunningly beautiful PRS though! Thank you for what you do, youve taught me so much!
Very nice :) Not necessarily for reaction purposes, but just for personal pleasure as fan of Jon Fish the limb by limb from IT festival has great sound mike is high in the mix (all are) and Jon at his polyrhythm best sounds like he has seven limbs like reggae, ballad, rock . So much interplay between page and Trey its really beautiful imo. Think you will like ending too all Jon :) cheers. Need more blues in the world. Was what made Miles my fav from blues to Ballads and all in between its such an attitude or vibe and is always fun when played at high level
I love his playing. Where would all of us guitar guys be without the sound and style of Stevie ray, Jeff Healey and Hendrix to help inspire us. Its the real sound.
Yes, Philip is a fantastic guitar player. He's up there with Joe Bonamassa, Eric Gales, and texas axeripper Lance Lopez. Recommend one other guy who is amazing!!! He's a guy from Northern Ireland. His name is Simon McBride. He is a monster guitar player. Recently stepped in for Steve Morse performing with Deep Purple in 2022. Check him out he is ridiculously good.
Sayce is going from V (B) to vi (C#m) through the inversion of relative minor's dominant 7th which is G#7, he is just not playing the root note. it's the common movement. the voices are: BD#F# -> CD#F# -> C#EG#
This was me , at 20 years old 99 Jimi Hendrix guitar Competition in New Orleans, played the NOLA blues radio station, had all the pedals, amps, and since I got targeted during the BLM movement, broke my elbow, had to pawn my equipment, and list everything... Fkn tears .. eats up my gut . You can check out me playing Little Wing, On Eric Krauel Dallas Sky Watcher
Hi Michael! I think its time to get back to some Shakey Graves.. I would love to see you react to his "Built to Roam" from Audiotree live.. Its an incredible performance.. And such interesting and fun guitar playing! Keep up the great work!
I'm begging you, watch the new video from Polyphia, their new song "Playing God", it's a mix of math rock, pop, flamenco and jazz, it's incredible, you have to see it!!!
For the next react, you should check out "Song for Barry" by the Brecker Brothers, but the one live from Japan in '95. Michael Brecker solos with an EWI and it sounds gnarly and I'm curious to see how you break it down. Here's the link if you want... th-cam.com/video/Eo1aM6qz8s4/w-d-xo.html the part I'm specifically talking about starts at around 8 minutes but I recommend watching the whole thing
One thing i picked up from Philip is the big bends, adding vibrato while doing the bend, slowly bringing down, still apply vibrato.. Adds alot of emotion... Awesome player for sure... Probably my current favorite guy. EDIT - just heard the guy kind of mention it lol. cool
IMHO Phil needs to get back into the studio and record a new album of original material. It's so much less costly than to pay royalties and whatever on other folks mat'l. I pray he's doing this in his spare time time otherwise no one will know the name Philip Sayce in five or six years from now... just sayin'...
Thanks for the shout out. I know a lot of guitar players watch my channel so I focus a lot on the hands on the strings so they can see what the pros are doing.
Thank you Natasha! Hope to see you at this year's ('23) Dallas Guitar Show. Your videos have been invaluable to my learning.
I love you channel ..one of my go to :)
Love your channel and I owe a lot of my study time to you haha🤘🏻 Cheers!
you're a real MVP for what you do, thank you
Very thankful ❤
His vibrato is off the charts. He's an amazing guitar player
Holy shit Sayce just gets better and better even when it seems like it’s impossible for him to get any better. great great comparison, love the toughts! same opinion
Thank you for doing Phillip! Saw him a year before COVID at a tiny place here in Canada, one of the best experiences ever, and he will talk to fans after the show with no issue, great player and even better guy!
Untouchable monster......His early days with Jeff Healey were insane.....
Yep. That’s where I know of him originally. I miss Jeff he was the best and I miss him. Blind, playing guitar on his lap with gain. Loved it. Still do. Rip

@@jordandangelo180 Spot on yes....
Sayce is a force to behold. And a genuine, kind hearted man.
I love how every time I see Philip Sauce playing, he's giving it everything - so inspiring
This is really what it's about. All heart and soul, pushing yourself to the limit. Its pure visceral electricity and the greatest thing, imo, about the instrument

Can’t say enough about Phillip Sayce. Holy smokes!!!

I can’t get enough of these react videos. Your passion for the music is utterly infectious. Thanks man
Can we all take a minute to appreciate Michael’s intros, especially this one. Sheesh
She’s got a killer channel… anytime I look up a live video her stuff comes up… awesome
Thanks
Philip Sayce is great!! Love the blues!! Found philip about 5or6 years ago! Thanks!
Love him. Discovered him in the Jeff Healy Band Live at Montreux when he was a teenager. Jeff even let him do a number. Dude has insane chops but his energy kicks it up a notch. Love a song of his called Alchemy.

I built my strat and my set up based on his ..
Never heard of this guy, he has a decent voice on him, very musical, Hendrix influence is palpable
Great analysis…seeing Philip live borders on a religious experience… he amazing…the passion and conviction behind every note is unlike anyone else
Sayce has been on my radar since 2006. Love the rawness and thick tone. Most of my favs are Canadians. Started with Frank Marino in the 70's.
Marino is such an underrated monster on guitar!
Mine too! I saw Frank in the late 70's. Amazing show. Then saw Rory Gallagher open for Rush, they were ok,but he blew my mine with his playing. Also saw April Wine, they were so tight and all 3 guitars were great. Miss those days.

I have his autographed indy cd that he was pushing while doing the bar circuit.
Philip, such a kind beast

Watch some Jeff Healey videos, and you'll see the young, brilliant Phillip Sayce.
Thank you
He is in my hood, and I did not even know him..... thank you SO VERY MUCH for the intro.... going to see him in 12 days
Tremendous lesson and a new guitar hero. My lucky day. Thanks zillions.
Woah how have I not heard about this guy before

His cover of "I'd Love to Change the World" is special
very helpful, thanks!

Wow man! How'd you come to know him. He is one the greatest ever
Goose bump magic when he gets deep into the solo, this tune has a very Little Wing/ Angel kind of cool vibe.
Love this video so much. Thank you.
Bahamas, Triumph, Philip Sayce!! Loving the Canadian content!
Best guitarist in the world as far as im concerned
i would buy your course just to support you, maybe learn somethin too "lol" but since my inauguration to you was Sayce on 4/30/22 (my birthday) i watched (little i on purpose) nice job 😊 wish my kids didnt cost so much and i could spread it around. Damn, he is inspiring.
Hell to the yeah, been waiting for some sayce.
Hey Mike. Funny, i just watched this video before i flipped over to your cannel, and now you listening to it! Lol. Sounds like it might be time for a string change on that stunningly beautiful PRS though! Thank you for what you do, youve taught me so much!
Shout out to the amazing Michael Leasure and Sam Bolle on drums and bass respectively!
Philip sayce is a BEAST

That McCarty 594 is gorgeous!
Thanks
Phillip is SOOOO good!
Awesome!
Gotta do another reaction to Philip
Thanks Mike

Jeff Healey’s guitarist. Rip Jeff. Miss him.
Philip is a big fan of SRV and Ian Moore, 2 greats.
your intros are always insane Micheal, do you play live?
Love Philip but let’s not forget the Univibe master, the legendary Robin Trower!
Been subbing to Phillip
Sayce is a Beast! My new favorite guitarist out there, Eric Steckel also, both players just Rip it always, I dig them both.
FINALLY!!!!
Sayce is going from V (B) to vi (C#m) through the inversion of relative minor's dominant 7th which is G#7, he is just not playing the root note. it's the common movement. the voices are: BD#F# -> CD#F# -> C#EG#
Great chops dude.
Whats with the Space X T Shirt? Nice Video. I found Philip recently... He can play dude! Nice
Phillip is a bad man thanks Micheal
can you tell me how you do the hybrid lick with pic and middle finger at 2130 in video? Philip saycee does it
This was me , at 20 years old 99 Jimi Hendrix guitar Competition in New Orleans, played the NOLA blues radio station, had all the pedals, amps, and since I got targeted during the BLM movement, broke my elbow, had to pawn my equipment, and list everything... Fkn tears

uhhhh. the opening lick 😵💫😵💫😵💫😵💫
Hi Michael! I think its time to get back to some Shakey Graves.. I would love to see you react to his "Built to Roam" from Audiotree live.. Its an incredible performance.. And such interesting and fun guitar playing! Keep up the great work!
You should check out Polyphia's new song "Playing God" that just dropped!
Very unique guitar playing and sound
Better give that guitar a months holiday after that abuse. Love it 👏👏
God I love him even more now.
How about a remake of Crossroads with Phil Sayce playing the devil in the headcuttin duel?
9:39
Y'all just witnessed a test of a Blues Nuke
Great stuff...when you upgrade your phone please send that one to me. I have been dying to own an Iphone😢
You should do “straw in the wind” by the steel woods or “purgatory” by Tyler Childers
You should do a lesson on God Man Blues by Kolton Moore & the Clever Few
The whole enchilada with the band no doubt they were in the pocket.
Shades of Robin Trower.
I'm begging you, watch the new video from Polyphia, their new song "Playing God", it's a mix of math rock, pop, flamenco and jazz, it's incredible, you have to see it!!!
Philip is a monster. U should check out Henrik Freischlader
This guys almost feels like a SRV reincarnation
He's killer. What type of pickups is he using nowadays
This tune is Slow Dancing In a Burning Room on steroids
Intro very similar to Robin Trower - "If Forever"
Hey you should react to a guy named colby acuff. He's a relatively new outlaw country singer. I recomend the song "once in a lifetime"
Wes Jeans Vibroverb on stage 🤘
YO NEW POLYPHIA YOU"RE GONNA LVOE IT
I here a little Hendrix vibe in there
For the next react, you should check out "Song for Barry" by the Brecker Brothers, but the one live from Japan in '95. Michael Brecker solos with an EWI and it sounds gnarly and I'm curious to see how you break it down. Here's the link if you want...

the part I'm specifically talking about starts at around 8 minutes but I recommend watching the whole thing
Michael, it's: Fake - X!
Hendrix and Kenny Wayne Shepherd. Some SRV
Another Palmisano? Ha, great jamming man 👍
If you get a chance you should check out a Greg Koch video he’s an insane player
Please check out Del Castillo
One thing i picked up from Philip is the big bends, adding vibrato while doing the bend, slowly bringing down, still apply vibrato.. Adds alot of emotion... Awesome player for sure... Probably my current favorite guy. EDIT - just heard the guy kind of mention it lol. cool
