Fun Facts: I'm an Indonesian, and I studied in the US before. They sell Indomie Goreng there, but they reduce the flavoring almost by half (you can instantly taste the difference), because it doesn't comply with the FDA standard that they allowed in. Even US says, too much MSG guys, that's just too much.

If you say the indomie tasted 1/3, that’s likely because it is export/licensed quality of indomie, singapore version of indomie also extremely bland compared to our original, that’s because the ingredients has to conform with local food safety laws, usually it means reduction in stuff like salt sugar msg, or changing ingredients that are compatible with the law there at the cost of taste

These Rats are a great improvement over the old ones with tinned Meals. There was another set of rations that came out in the late 90's and continued until about 2012. These were amazing! Included were lots of Brew gear, Muesli Bars, Biscuits, Jams & crackers, M&M's, A Chocolate ration, FRED, Heavy duty plastic spoon, Flavored DrinkPowders, Cheese &Waterproof matches, just to name a few... The Actual Meals were all de-hydrated (saved a heap of weight!) so U opened them up, half fill with hot water, folded to top over and let it sit for 5min. These were actually by far the tastiest most satisfying Ration meals Ive ever tried! The Meals were replaced for a cheaper alternative & thats why we use the rations u tried Today! If the opportunity ever arises, do yourselves a favour and see how good the flavours are on these dehydrated meals! Shoutout From Sydney Australia!!!

So the red match is windproof water proof, rarely ever used them but great for when its pouring. The cheese doesnt look great, but is probably some of the best tinned cheese I've had, a nice treat when youre in the field.
The chocolate rations are great but were prone to blooming rather quickly.
For boiling food, the kidney cups were always much more useful, taller walls helps stabilize the retort pouches. We'd boil our mre's in them, then either eat straight from the pouch or then pour it into the mess tin (but as you saw, they're not meant to be eaten in the light), then use the left over water to make a hot drink.
My guess for the noodles is that yes, it's indomie, tastes too similar, but likely contracted with less of the seasoning to balance sodium intake for the ration pack.

when i was a teenager i was in the air force cadets. when we went out bush craft and survival exercises, we would get an Australian army ration pack. they are commonly referred to as "rat packs". make your own assumptions there, lol. they were pretty good for the day but nowhere near as good as these. plus i think ours were from the Korean era but they were still good. tubes of carnation condensed milk, chocolate, biscuit got fought over! over here you can buy them in just about any camping store. flame is only crazy because you put way too many of the hexamine tablets under the stove, live and learn. anyway, hi from aus. like the videos. stoked that you like our food. cheers, bill.

Hi Jolly! Will you ever give Nepali a try? Perhaps a video on learning Nepali alphabets? I’d like to see how fun it will be. 🤪 Love you!

Why does Josh's voice go up about 5 octaves whenever he is surprised by something? ( e.g. 2:05 and 2:52 ) lmao

Did the US Army write a manual for using the P38 can opener in WW II? I hope so, because Ollie really needed it in this video. My mom never used anything but this type of can opener when I was a kid and I started using them before age 10. Never had so much trouble like Ollie. Oh, Dad was in the Army and they gave them out in the mess halls because they came in combat ration packs and they wouldn't need them when they recycled the packs in the kitchens. We always had lots in our kitchen, in the original plastic wrappers.

I think Sustagen's supposed to be like jam packed with nutrition or something. In Indonesia, it was advertised as an alternative for kids who had trouble eating enough vegs and healthy food. My mom bought us Sustagen when I was 5-6 yo and I nearly grew a foot in one summer, it's no joke lol.

I had a mouth full of water when Ollie spit out the "fluid balance" drink and almost lost it myself. Hilarious!!!

Indonesia and Australia are (were?) actually pretty tight. Sustagen was Indonesian milk brand back in late 80s/early 90s!

nope they are two different thing, the Indonesian sustagen is formulated milk for the kid, still available and made by mead johnson while the Aussie is a supplement for the adult made by nestle

My cousin served in the ADF. I would like to clarify, that like in the U.K, there is a HUGE selection of rations. Love your content
