As an American, it absolutely blew my mind when I read that not only was Winston Churchill alive during this time, he was a teenager. It really shouldn't have surprised me that much, but they seem so much like completely different eras, like how Anne Frank and Martin Luther King Jr. were born in the same year, or that Nintendo existed during the Ottoman Empire.

  • @futurez12
    @futurez12 4 ปีที่แล้ว +811

"Charles Cross" - not his real name - is by far the most likely candidate. The guy was found at the scene, having "discovered" the body, just moments after a murder occured, gave a false name to police, and tried to give them the slip. He also lived in and around the area where the murders took place; his route to work took him right through some of those very places. He also used to live right in the epicentre of the suspected area where the murderer was thought to have lived, by modern methods of figuring out a catchment area based upon where each murder took place. Wasn't he also a butcher by trade? So he wouldn't have attracted much attention wearing blood stained clothing.

@Gary DeBlasio He ment "groot" from his favorite marvel movie because hes 12. Very fascinating work man. I believe that one of these suspects is indeed the killer too. Probably the guy who hated prostitutes. Or theyre all wrong and was someone in between all of these people. Someone so plain, and relatable that they would never be seen as such. As for why he stopped killing, he probably got caught locally but whoever caught him either died and was assumed killed by other people. Then the ripper split, or the man who caught him didn't realize what he caught and jack split. Not having enough evidence for a clear conviction in those times would be hard. Maybe it was a super natural force as well. Such a curious case that will never be solved.

I think Kosminski is a top suspect, if obvious.Though the Australian has some merit since record keeping in the Victorian age was iffy at best. I wonder why Jack the Ripper rose to such to prominence, but nobody ever mentions the torso killings that were going on at the same time. I guess there's just not much to go on there, since almost none of the torso victims were identified. That's really sad.

Jack the Ripper has cooler name :). I remember when I was younger, Jack the ripper was basically synonym for serial killer and I was sure that that is because he was one of the biggest one and later when I discovered that he "only" killed 6 people, I was kind of disappointed. I mean, some of serial killers killed a lot more, at least those that we know of.

Brazenness would be my guess. The Torso victims were dismembered and their remains were dispersed to different locations for disposal. This is grisly, but also practical. The victims were also discovered over the course of ~2 years, increasing the possibility that some or all of the incidents were unrelated. The most notable things about the Ripper murders is the choice in victim (vulnerable woman who themselves provided the means of access) and the brutality of the assaults.

In the streets of London, a tale unfolds,
Of a criminal enigma, whose story still holds,
Jack the Ripper, infamous and grim,
His reign of terror, a nightmare within.
Mary Ann Nichols, the first to fall,
Her life stolen away on Buck's Row's gall,
Strangled and slashed, a brutal sight,
The curtain was raised on this haunting night.
Annie Chapman, a week had passed,
In Hanbury Street, her breath did last,
    Abdominal mutilations, surgical precision,
    The Ripper's knowledge fueled suspicion.
Elizabeth Stride, the same night's toll,
In Dutfield's Yard, her fate took its hold,
Her throat slit, but a different scene,
    Interrupted plans, an unsolved scheme.
    Catherine Eddowes, an hour's span,
    Mitre Square witnessed horror's brand,
    Throat slashed, abdomen torn wide,
    Her kidney stolen, panic multiplied.
Mary Jane Kelly, the final victim's name,
    In Miller's Court, darkness claimed,
Mutilation unmatched, a scene of dread,
The Ripper's masterpiece, souls left for dead.
Inspector Frederick Abberline, relentless in his quest,
To unmask the killer, put the city at rest,
With H Division, he pursued the trace,
But Jack's true identity, still a secret encased.
Through harrowing details, victims and their plight,
London's streets haunted, engulfed in fright,
Each murder etched in memory's strain,
Forever linked to Jack the Ripper's reign.
And so, we ponder with a shudder and a sigh,
The motivations and secrets that lie,
Behind these heinous acts, their dark allure,
Jack the Ripper, an enigma to endure.

I'm less interested in the identity of Jack, what I want to know is the mind behind it all. What was he like? What drove him to kill and mutilate in the way that he did? What did he think of it all? To me, those details are infinitely more fascinating than being able to put a name to the killings. It's a shame we'll never know.

He fit the profile perfectly. But after finding out he was still alive after the murders stopped (living out his days in mental asylums). He ruled him out as his prime suspect. Who then became David Cohen(or someone like him). A near identical profile that just fit the mold better than Kosminsky.

He was an unusual killer. Most had more of a cooling off period. Clearly, it was about mutilation, not torture. He seemed to have a rage for women as well. The genitalia, the breasts, the face were all targeted, as if he wanted to erase their womanhood. The scariest part? You would not have felt threatened by him, he would not have stood out. He had a good reason for being out at night, he was someone nobody would look twice at. He was not an outsider in the east end. Even when women knew there was a killer, they still went with him into dark alleys. In my opinion, jack the ripper was almost certainly male. Psychologically, female serial killers tend to be based on some kind of material gain, and they also use less personal and bloody ways of killing. A woman could certainly have had the knowledge required, but it is unlikely.

    • @Elly3981
      @Elly3981 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Back then, people didn't think a woman could kill in such a horrific fashion but its still possible JTR could have been a woman since a neighbor of the last victim claimed she saw her just hours after the victim was supposedly murdered so its possible a female killer could have donned her clothes and fled the scene of the crime. In those days, any woman can claim to be a midwife, go out in public with bloody clothes, and nobody would think anything of it. A female abortionist would also have knowledge of female anatomy to remove organs like JTR did and a woman whose husband cheated on her with prostitutes would have had a sound motive for murdering them. People also tend to relax their guard around women then they would with men as well.

You brought up a good point, in reference to those possible Ripper victims who fall outside of “The Canonical Five”; that because Martha Tabram’s throat wasn’t cut like the other victims afterwards, that she’s been excluded by many as being a victim of JTR...
But I agree that it’s entirely possible that Tabram was The Ripper’s first victim, and that he didn’t cut her throat because at that point, just killing her was enough to excite him. He may not have been sure early on about how he would play out his deranged murder fantasies.
But as he continued to kill, the murderer evolved in the ferocity of the damage he did, and he found that what once excited him in the beginning, no longer did as time went on... and that he had to grow more savage with each subsequent victim, in order to feel any excitement from doing them.
Basically, what got him off at first eventually didn’t anymore, so he had to keep taking it further each time. This would ultimately lead to the most savage of his killings, with his complete ravaging and tearing apart of Mary Kelly, who was the most torn up and disfigured. Kelly is also considered to be the only victim who’s murder occurred in a private residence, so the murderer had plenty of time to relax, be methodical, and take his time, acting out his ultimate violent fantasy and prolonging the event, without the risk of being caught by a passerby, or by the police.

    • @Elly3981
      @Elly3981 2 ปีที่แล้ว

You're absolutely right. Serial killers also continue to kill until they die or are caught. Whoever JTR was, he was highly intelligent as well as mentally ill and sadistic, a dangerous combination. I also believe that he was someone who was good at getting women to trust and let their guards down around him too since none of his victims ever got the chance to scream or defend themselves before he murdered them.

I just think the two killers are so dissimilar that they can't be the same person.

Holmes can be placed in the US during the Ripper murders. The whole thing about records of his travels to England is bs because he was in Chicago working and building his murder castle during the Ripper murders. Records like marriage, birth (of his daughter), dozens of lawsuits for non payment of his murder castle and his other scams, and other examples all place him in Chicago between the mid 1880s and early 1890s when the Ripper murders occurred thousands of miles away in London. Needless to say, he couldn’t travel back and forth to be in two places at once when the only way to cross the Atlantic back then was a weeks long trip by ship.

A years after Jack the Ripper murders. A few eerily similar murders happened in New York. I had that someone I don't remember who, said the killer might have been sailor who's ship had stopped in London just long enough for the killer to do his thing. Then when it was time to set sail again, he simply got back on the ship and moved on. Possibly to New York. Where he killed again. The killer could have a hundred victims all over the world if that's the case.
I mean think about, if you were murdering psychopath with weird fetish for cutting people up. And it's pretty obvious that you like it too much to want to stop. What would be the best profession for you, that would allow you to keep killing while staying on the move?
At the same time imagine being on top of other sailors on that ship. Having to travel long distances with this maniac. I'd imagine someone like Jack the Ripper wouldn't be the most friendly person on the planet. He was probably a total asshole, especially when after not having his fix of blood and guts starts getting to him.

Along with the DNA Lab - and accordingly, the validity of the tests on the alleged DNA on the shawl coming under serious doubt, Sotheby’s of London had their antique clothing/fashion experts examine the fabric, and their conclusion was that not only was the fabric and pattern of the shawl NOT designed until well into the 20th Century, it was also said that even if the shawl had existed in the 1880’s, it would have been a very expensive shawl, and no one in the East End would have ever had the money to buy it. It was an item that only those who were wealthy could have afforded when it was eventually made available ...
