    I'm all for the scale details and very glad to see you include them every week. That's a big reason why your builds always impress me so much... that being said I have a bit of a suggestion.. a critique if you will.. PLEASE consider lopping off the flanged part of your scale tail pipe, for some reason I just don't think it's looking as great as it could ( could just be my own opinion and we know what they are like lol) Also I'm sure you already know this but used lighters make absolutely AWESOME scale mufflers when cut down. just gluea pierce of styrene to the cut end and drill holes for the brake line to pass thru, paint and you're done! I'm sure you could even take it a step further and cut letters out of really thin styrene to have a muffler brand name "stamped" onto it from the factory which would be killer in some low shots of the truck. Hope My Constructive Criticism helps and PLEASE keep doing what you do bro! Thanks for the awesome vids as always

    • @scalebuildersguild
      @scalebuildersguild  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the feedback, yes definitely will consider it! I've made styrene mufflers before, and if I was going crazy with this one, I'd do it.

  • @alecschoonover1618

    I think you should make it a 4 link get rid of the pan hard bar and get a 71mm link from axial and 45 degree bent end and down ward bent end to get more articulation for pretty cheap

    • @scalebuildersguild
      @scalebuildersguild  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not a fan of four linking the front. Too many setbacks for a small bit of extra articulation. Flex, as it is, is overrated in my opinion. Thanks for the suggestion!

    Way to go Matt! I haven't had any problems with those servos at all. I am currently using 4-5 of them. They are great for trailing. I like the tailpipe. 👍🏼

    • @scalebuildersguild
      @scalebuildersguild  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks other Matt! I've got a few Savox servos going in my trail trucks, and even competition trucks. My favorite is the Holmes SHV500, but that's a budget breaker!

  • @TheChefford
    @TheChefford 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Those 0231 servos have a weak brass gear pressed into a steel gear that tends to strip under load

    • @scalebuildersguild
      @scalebuildersguild  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Brass is better than plastic! I won't be doing any hardcore comping with it, and I'm pretty easy on my trucks. It's been a long time since I stripped out a servo! Thanks for the feedback!

    For the exhaust, if you drill the end out a lil bit you can make the steel thinner to give you more of a scale thickness on the exhaust tip. Awesome videos. Love the build so far

    Hey Matt, I clicked the link and did this upgrade on my SCX10ii rtr JK. It took me a few tries to get it right, but I got it all to work and the steering horn clears.
    I did have to move my receiver back in the box a bit as the wires are a little shorter. Also added spacer between the horn and the steering link to reduce the angle a little. Thanks for the info.

    Another great one! I still don't know what to make of Savox...... 😵 Josh doesn't like them - his most common reason - they're annoying!! But I've read SEVERAL different things from different people about them. I'm confused!! Nobody wants to hear my situation, but let's say my budget is infinitely *smaller* than $50.00/week. I wouldn't trust my Rig to one of those "8 High Torque Servos for $15.99" eBay deals!!!!
    Are there any decent Servos, for my Wraith with 5.5" Tires, for *under* $30??
    And that Brake Line.... AWESOME idea!!! 👏👏👏👏 Not only looks good and Scale, but it RUSTS!! I've been an Auto Technician Since 84. I don't know why I haven't thought of that!
    Keep it up!
    Carmine 🚂

    • @scalebuildersguild

    Hey Matt the Honcho's looking great ! ;) This build off between you and Harley is going great ! ;)
    Just 1 exhaust pipe from $5 worth of brake tube ? surely that Honcho must have a big block V8 ? so a duel pipe system is a must !

    • @scalebuildersguild

    • @scalebuildersguild

      You'd have to do some serious over torquing to have the plastic case fail.

    • @Lybra19JTD
      @Lybra19JTD 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      case will not fail, the base, where main shaft for gears is in, is part of housting. so your main shaft is spinning in plastic hole( not in bearing ). motor is quite powerfull, so it easily make tolerance in that hole and it will dislocate the main shaft from that hole, which is in plastic base, which is part of housting of servo.

    I definitely wouldn’t run that servo in a 1.9 or larger tire rig. It’s fine on a tiny tire rig. The brass gears will give out. According to Savox these servos are made as a Traxxas replacement servo and need a servo saver otherwise they will not warranty them.

      Interesting feedback! Considering it's more torque than stock, I'm wondering where you got your info from. I got this directly from Savox:
      The SW-0231MG is a budget friendly, waterproof, high torque, digital servo in a slightly taller case than most standard sizes. This is a great upgrade if your looking to drive your RC vehicle in any condition yet unable to use higher voltage to obtain more power.
      Features:Strong metal gear train for added durability.Waterproof case design.Ideal for cars, truck, and boats subject to water or snow.Slightly taller case design.

      Scale Builder's Guild i destroyed one in my trail stomper in one run. Sent a message to savox for warranty. They wanted to know what vehicle it was in and if I used a servo saver. Their response was it’s designed as a Traxxas drop in replacement and requires a servo saver. They declined my warranty request.

    Hi Matt, awesome intro man. Very funny, had my going.
    How about when you use a budget servo, actually use a budget servo, like the budget mg servos, that's all I use in all my rc's and have never been let down yet. I would be great if you used one to see what you think of it and beat on it till it gives up the ghost 👻 lol.
    I got the decals, they are fantastic, thanks. 😀 👍 👍 👍

      Scale Builder's Guild yeah, the Chinese mg servos, balraced, metal geared high torque, 12kg plus, 2 for $10 on eBay, sometimes if you're lucky, you can find the mg999 22kg torque. They're not waterproof, but that's easy enough to fix. 😀 👍 👍 👍

      Really good waterproof 20kg metal gear servo: Power HD LW-20MG, 20 - 25 bucks via Amazon, local shops, Banggood, Hobbyking etc.; very popular here; - others: 20 kg metal gear not waterproof: Power HD LF-20MG, 15 - 20 bucks... really worth the money. Even more budget but good and 20kg metal gear: DSServo DS3218 around 11 €, there would be even cheaper servos for around 5 bucks 12kg metal gear, that will work: MG995. Went the other way in my helis, from cheap to very high class servos, but I guess in (Scale-)crawlers you will not need the most expensive servos. Guess I saw the Power HD LF-20MG servos in some rigs of GMC (in videos), this is the "red" servo with big silver "20 kg" on it. I do also use JX servos for 10 bucks in my Tamiya beetle etc. There are a lot of options for reliable good, strong and cheap servos. Does not necessarily have to be Savöx (BTW: changed my Savöx in two helis to better and more expensive ones ;) ). The Power HD Servos are even sold here in EU in local Hobbyshops for reasonable prices, do not need to buy in China and can support the local dealers. In my opinion a 35 - 40 bucks servo is not a "budget servo" for a scale crawler... it is at least mid-class. There are also really good (brushed) ESCs for crawlers for 10 - 20 bucks (Hobbywing 1060 and 1040), less than 10 bucks (Hobbyking), and rather "high class" for around 35 bucks (Hobbywing 1080 crawler edition incl. prog card).

      donaldsneffe I totally agree with you, I've used the mg servos for years, no failures yet. I also run the hobbywing escs. I also have a couple of X-car escs for both crawlers and on road cars. They're only $11 from hobbyking.
      $50 is mid to high for me.
      I remember waaaay back in the day, like the mid 80s and onwards, my servos were £90 second hand, as was my esc when I raced the RC10 buggies and then the tamiya TA02 touring cars and also tamiya F1s, I couldn't afford to buy good new electronics. Still can't. lol

      Mikey mike Lol... remember in the 80ties, when I wanted to buy a cheap servo for my (used) Graupner Taxi and it costed 300 Schilling (ca. 20 €) and had to work a month after school for this... times change... but I spend way too much for the hobby (helis, planes, cars, even for those crappy quads), as probably everyone... more than I can (should) afford, as you ;-)

    I have a brushless in my scx10 ii what would be a good water proof servo for it I use the 3s battery sometimes when I’m racing or just for fun but I mainly use 2s I only did brushless cause I just use it for fun and to build custom stuff for it to do or rescuer other truck in the mud and stuff it’s basically a tow truck and I’m also running 2.2 wheels and tires

    Great rig bro...btw I got noob question from newbie guy..planning to get this honcho 2...want to run on BL set up I'm more on trailing bit crawling..any advice that will enlighten me? Oopss 1more quick question can the Flysky Fs-gt3c transmitter be use on stock Honcho 2? Your response will make huge help:) thanks bro!

    • @scalebuildersguild
      @scalebuildersguild  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you're just trailing, there's not much need for Brushless. If you're dead set on it, I recommend either Tekin or Castle. Somewhere in the 1900-2300kv range. Sorry, I don't know anything about Flysky. I do know that you'll need both a transmitter and receiver that are setup to work with each other. You can't mix and match.
