The roboticness of the voice fits so perfect with the doppelgängers, almost human but noticeably not

I get why you think so, and I suppose *thematically* it's better, but I can't help but think the tuning fumbles it. I don't quite know how to describe it but there was a certain way it was sung originally that isn't replicated and was really crucial in making the vocal portion of the song work at all.
