Hi-Fi Rush is such a passion product that even in Speed Runs, the runner is basically playing a very long form rhythm game having to do their dashes and skips on the beat.
Fun fact: the devs confirmed on Twitter that Chai does "not have full function of his arm" at the beginning, which can be read as him having a proper disability, not a simple injury. This is actually a great reason for him to not know how to play guitar despite how bad he wants to be a rock star.
This makes a lot more sense to me, as I swear in the opening cutscene somewhere he used that hand to hold something, and I thought it was some kind of mistake - especially if the arm was broken. If it was actually semi-but-not-full functioning and disabled, that makes more sense, it also adds a bit of a sadder tone to him wanting to be a rockstar and learn music but to have not actually been able to.
This is a stellar example of a great runner and a support couch! Very informative and takes time to explain what’s going on in the run! GGs, Moistrock and couch! 👏👏
It's crazy how Woolie, despite not being a speedrunner at all, gets named dropped during the run purely because he gets so hyped about parrying. And I'm all for it.
1:38:04 korsica is based off of Corsican pepper spice.(also you guys said that rekka always goes to get charged up in phase 4 that is partially true she goes for the charge but its based on Something don't know what could be rng could be just A.i. when she does it so she can go for a charge or just play like phase 3.)
1:19:15 when I first played I didn’t notice that more breaks came up and the timer counted down again. And when it runs out it plays the normal death scene when you run out of health, this caused me to go “how did I die?” Because I was thinking “I could have sworn I had plenty of health” I ended up dying twice from this. And the last time I only had a few seconds left when I won, I played on medium.
Meta joke: Speedrunner Chai is such a "defect" that he can't even _comply with the laws of physics_ properly, leading to just sort of backrooms-ing his way through Vandelay Campus 👀
Mimosa is the PR/Marketing head for Vandalay, so she’s definitely in on everything, but every time I see her I can’t help but go “omg slay” Her character design is so good
What a fantastic game and what a fantastic run! Loved playing this game and all the (lack of) hype from its shadow drop was such a treat for gamers. Great commentary from the couch as well!
To add to the failing a skip and the running going EFF IT and trying something much riskier later on, 45:30 for the running cutting off attempts on a very hard skip and then 53:33 for him to try something crazier to make up for the lost time.
Should've been more marketing to advertise the game, it's a very enjoyable game to play and even watch. Glad to see a speedrun not too long after release!
You dont have to destroy all the arms, you can use the ability that returns damage when you parry. It is way, way slower though unless you are incredibly unlucky

Knowing that perfect cutscene skips for speedrunning also have to be to the beat is very Hi-Fi Rush.
