So a little history about Carraway Hospital, you actually entered through the clinic & walked over to the hospital. A woman’s charity bought the hospital to convert it into a large rehab area for women to recover & get back into society after leaving prison or recovering from an addiction. The stripped out areas were due to them doing remodeling to get the place ready. Unfortunately the surrounding community did not want them there so they walked away from it. Everything that was left had to be left due to laws of things not being transferred or donated & the machines would have been way to expensive to remove.
I would reccomed you both to get some proper walking boots which would be much more waterproof and asumin thst there could be needles lying around protect you from them a lot better. Just a suggestion though.

True, but, it takes tons of money to recondition old buildings like these and get them up to code if they've stood empty for only a few months. Most commercial buildings require constant maintenance to hold them together. For instance, the Wal-Mart in my town has had roofers working on its roof like 4 times now in six months. Just trying to keep it from leaking. And that's one aspect of keeping these things functional. Almost every commercial building has a mostly unseen army of maintenance personnel or contractors keeping them working. That's why so many are just abandoned. After its decayed beyond a certain point from lack of maintenance, it would cost less to build a new building from scratch than rehabilitate a building that's been sitting for as little as a year without that army of workers keeping it from falling apart.
A few years ago I was on a school feild trip and we had to pass by that hospital to get there, no joke we saw a couple of guys sprint out of there full speed with cameras and flashlights..
Pati Giddens they are a couple million dollars these days, but this ones old. probably a couple thousand, but it is surprising that they didnt sell it.
We have a small community hospital just down the street from my house that closed about 6 months ago. I can’t imagine a hospital of this size being completely left open..how awesome!!

For anyone interested, basically it's planned to be demolished: The Lovelady Center planned to spend $15 million over three years to convert the 52-acre campus into a multi-use development that would include the rehab center, a hotel, emergency room, pharmacy, and a long-term medical care center. The finished project would be called Metro Plaza. The neighborhood committees around Carraway opposed the Lovelady Center moving into the vacant hospital. They believed a transitional housing center would be a step back for the community, and not a beneficial use of the massive complex. In 2018, the Lovelady Center sold the 50-acre property to Corporate Realty Development and plans were made to transform the former hospital campus into a mixed-use development that will likely include single-family residences, multi-family residential, retail and restaurants, offices, hotel and an entertainment venue.
instead of turning it into a plaza for expensive apartments and entertainment, wouldn’t it be more beneficial to turn it into a homeless shelter? since homeless people are already living there and don’t seem to be the cause of all the non-aging damage, a homeless shelter is obviously needed for the town.
@@loserxeditscom4018 and how does a homeless shelter do anything to revitalize an area that lacks economic and social income? You have to be proactive when it comes to running a city.
A huge hospital. Creepy, exciting and interesting. Never thought the MRI machine would still be in there. Was really hoping you would hit up the surgical suites, hopefully in the next video! All in all, loved this one. Be careful with who you bump into though. Every turn you make down a hallway I'm prepping for an encounter with someone and a major jumpscare!
I love everything about these videos! The creepy background music, the attention to detail, the narration, etc... One of the only abandoned exploration channels I watch!
i really appreciate that the first response to 'oh, there's someone here' is hello and the second one is 'let's not disturb them'. lol, I understand the latter was probably mostly about self preservation but I appreciate how considerate you guys were to give someone else their space.
There are some other good explore creators right now, but haven't seen any who can match these guys in so effectively conveying the flow of exploring a physical location. The narration is just right, never overdone; they make it about the place, not themselves. The genuine dramatic tension in this one as they progress through the rooms is remarkable.
I work 300 yards from this location, I actually live 15 minutes from here and was actually born here at this hospital in 1987. In its prime, caraway hospital was an amazing hospital and was the place to go for emergencies and such. I’m 31 now, and it’s really a downer to see time taking its toll.
i'm absolutely obsessed with exploring abandoned places, researching them, and watching documentaries or videos like these. The places are so hauntingly beautiful to me. but for some reason, this one was so sad to watch
There always seem to be police sirens in the background of your videos 😅 ... probably a statement to the kind of neighbourhoods that these abandoned buildings lie in today.
Definitely not a good area of Birmingham. It may not be “the worst,” but bad enough for me to be surprised they didn’t get mugged, find a dead body, or be shot.
Husker Hotel In Lincoln Ne is used as patient family stay for the hospitial. It is fairly common and helps the family a ton.. we used it when my late father had heart surgery.
I actually live close to to the hospital and made it a point to go there at least once a month, it reignited my photography and gave way to a lot of cool photos and tours with friends. It's rigged to be demoed as of earlier this month, but they have yet to go through with it because of the virus at the moment. It's really cool stumbling upon this and your channel!! Birmingham has tons of cool abandoned places, but nothing touches Carraway,
Hello from Chicago, I have seen most of your videos and I'm very pleased with them. You're not like some guys I know where they go into a building and they talk out loud and make a lot of noises without caring or thinking some one could be hiding inside somewhere waiting to be surprise by some kind of lunatic. But not you two, Micheal and Bryan, you know your job. You know when to be quiet, both are very caution, and also aware of your surroundings, you have to, good job, and I congratulate both of you on your excellent job. It's always a pleasure to look forward to see more of your unique videos. If I want to let you know about other places for you to visit, where can I get in touch with you. Keep up the good work.🤗
Guys this video is amazing, hardly wait to see pt.2!! There is one section you explored that had that huge MRI machine, that is one expensive piece of equipment they left behind, I was shocked to see that there!
7:01 When Brian and Michael came to a set of 2 open doors, they entered the door on their left. *enters right door* This was not the correct way to the meeting room, and they knew it perfectly well. Perhaps they wanted to stop by the employee lounge first, just to admire it.
I am from Birmingham and up until recent years the life support team ran out of one of the top buildings. That may have been why the helicopter was flying close. Surprised you did see any other people, I've heard that place is covered with homeless and druggies. Cool video!
So awesome to see this, i live in downtown Birmingham and have visited this hospital many times, i never imagined i would see you guys explore it. Fucking fantastic.
I live thirty minutes away from the hospital. I've always been very fascinated by the hospital and wanted to explore it, but I was told it's extremely dangerous to go into. Thanks for exploring it for me!
So cool to see you doing something near where I live. Kinda surreal seeing familiar places when you looked out over the roof. Hope you had a pleasant stay in Alabama.
@@forganforge I was a teen and would never destroy anything abounded or not.... I did however find an old trailer house that had been left for over 25 years. The facility is actually nice, imagine the things you could do with it if you were a small group of people. You could clean out part of a floor, switch locks on doors, have your own place. Probably illegal as hell but imagine the possibilities.

Can't believe they'd leave an MRI machine they've got to be expensive!!!! Thanks guys another cool video!!!!!!😀😀
20 years old .. so probably worthless
Pati Giddens they are a couple million dollars these days, but this ones old. probably a couple thousand, but it is surprising that they didnt sell it.
Or some humanitarian group send it to where it's needed - old or not. But then, there's that support issue.
Even still, there's clinics that could use it wouldn't you think? Probably too much trouble I guess. Still a waste.
Pati Giddens - probably cost more to dissasemble it and remove it then just buy a new one, that was up quite a few flights.
We have a small community hospital just down the street from my house that closed about 6 months ago. I went over last week just to check it out and it had LEGIT security patrolling the area..now I REALLY want to get inside. I can’t imagine a hospital of this size being completely left open..how awesome!!
Im always worried that you will run into people trying to jack your equipment. Or one day you will find a crime scene... But I love that you are brave enough to do this lol. I wish I had smart people to hang out and do this with. But Im a mid twenties girl sooo low chance. I did exploring things like this as a tiny kid and dream about it a lot... Would be cool to find a legit female exploring team. Oh well. I love you guys anyway lol.
Why does it have to be a female team ?
I'm down lol
Totes down even though it’s years later Lol!
My mom used to work here as an ER nurse. It's crazy to watch that video and think that my mom used to work there. I just wanted to say thanks for exploring Carraway and thanks for all that you do! I'll be sure to share the video with my mom. Keep up the good work!
Were you born in that hospital? Or did she work there after your birth? ( I hope I've expressed myself correctly. I'm German after all XD)
Florian amRechner Haha I wasn't born there, and yeah she worked there before I was born
I love that you guys and Dan Bell are cool with each other....I love watching all of your vids...thanks for all you do
A huge hospital.
And the wait for part 2 startssss...... NOW
Jacob Belanio Productions what? They literalky just uploaded, watch it first and then wait for part 2
K1lgore 23 lol but im saying the wait will be REAL
i really appreciate that the first response to 'oh, there's someone here' is hello and the second one is 'let's not disturb them'. lol, I understand the latter was probably mostly about self preservation but I appreciate how considerate you guys were to give someone else their space.
Great job guys, I get so excited when I see your upload notifications!! Your videos keeping better and better 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
There are some other good explore creators right now, but haven't seen any who can match these guys in so effectively conveying the flow of exploring a physical location. The narration is just right, never overdone; they make it about the place, not themselves. The genuine dramatic tension in this one as they progress through the rooms is remarkable.
That part of the complex which resembled a hotel was very likely a hospice wing.
This is the best exploration channel there is. No lies. No fakes. No bull crap.
Tucker Eskridge Dan Bell is pretty great as well
closure because they prioritized individual care over profits? what a tragedy
I work 300 yards from this location, I actually live 15 minutes from here and was actually born here at this hospital in 1987. In its prime, caraway hospital was an amazing hospital and was the place to go for emergencies and such. I’m 31 now, and it’s really a downer to see time taking its toll.
The way he said “woah man, a satanic ritual.” 😂😂😂😂
they spray painted alot of demonic stuff it look scary 2024 the fence taken down go see it
i'm absolutely obsessed with exploring abandoned places, researching them, and watching documentaries or videos like these. The places are so hauntingly beautiful to me. but for some reason, this one was so sad to watch
"OOOOOHHH God that's nasty" *zooms in on sock*
9:38 Oxford Instruments who make this are about 100 yards from where I work. They used to make all the big helium filled magnets at Eynsham in Oxford.
There always seem to be police sirens in the background of your videos 😅 ... probably a statement to the kind of neighbourhoods that these abandoned buildings lie in today.
Not the worst neighborhood in Birmingham actually.
@@thebeezkneez2557 Sure as shit not the best.
Definitely not a good area of Birmingham. It may not be “the worst,” but bad enough for me to be surprised they didn’t get mugged, find a dead body, or be shot.
Lauren H since it seems like you know Birmingham, where should I park to go explore this place ?
Husker Hotel In Lincoln Ne is used as patient family stay for the hospitial. It is fairly common and helps the family a ton.. we used it when my late father had heart surgery.
Time, 21:00 - Check
Lights Off - Check
Boom Speaker Maxed - Check
Tub of Granola - Check
Okay. I'm ready.
Andrew Kovnat - these guys do better than Hollywood
I actually live close to to the hospital and made it a point to go there at least once a month, it reignited my photography and gave way to a lot of cool photos and tours with friends. It's rigged to be demoed as of earlier this month, but they have yet to go through with it because of the virus at the moment. It's really cool stumbling upon this and your channel!! Birmingham has tons of cool abandoned places, but nothing touches Carraway,
that person probably cane to the hospital to fix his foot then realized it was abandoned 😂😂
Nurse, nurse, nurse where are you?
Lmao 😂😂
Very good video in a location that just just fits in, Bryan and Michael. The view from the roof of that building is great.
That building looks quite new. What a waste, imagine what a developing country could do with that, especially the MRI.
Margot if they could supply enough power to run it. You don’t just plug a 2 million dollar mri unit in like a vacuum.
Keep up the good work.🤗
got the called cops on me once exploring an abandoned hospital. told them I was just walking round the outside... it worked!
Well produced video as always. putting snaps of the pictures you take at each place would be an interesting addition.
Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital feels lol
I am from Birmingham and up until recent years the life support team ran out of one of the top buildings. That may have been why the helicopter was flying close. Surprised you did see any other people, I've heard that place is covered with homeless and druggies. Cool video!
this reminds me of the hospital from the walking dead, the one that beth gets killed in
So awesome to see this, i live in downtown Birmingham and have visited this hospital many times, i never imagined i would see you guys explore it. Fucking fantastic.
nice explore looking forward to part 2
I live thirty minutes away from the hospital. I've always been very fascinated by the hospital and wanted to explore it, but I was told it's extremely dangerous to go into. Thanks for exploring it for me!
Someone stubbed their toe super fucking hard
Levi Penterman Or stepped on something sharp. Like one of those needles that's lying around there.
You wouldn't bleed that hard from a needle.
Kremer Drei honestly you could bleed that hard from something like a needle if it went in a certain way
So cool to see you doing something near where I live. Kinda surreal seeing familiar places when you looked out over the roof. Hope you had a pleasant stay in Alabama.
I wish I could do abandoned videos like yours but I'm not cool enough haha, please come to the uk, would love to meet youu guys!! 😌
no
Charlie Motionless you look pretty cool charlie so dont doubt yourself xx im uk too
cheekychops2004 awe thank you hehe!! xx
My mom used to work in Norwood Clinic there. So wild to see it like this.
Natalie Campbell my dad used to work there too in the lab, so wild
I wonder why the tendency is to always destroy.
Room after room is completely destroyed, and for what?
Entertainment is subjective. It's sad, but that's how some losers have their fun.
Teen angst
@@forganforge I was a teen and would never destroy anything abounded or not.... I did however find an old trailer house that had been left for over 25 years. A man and his teen son lived there and they won a 1million lottery in my home town. They literally left the 2 days later because the news followed them to the receiving/claim center. They asked not to be announced. Media dont give a crap... so they just go there money and left. Of course they only receive 600,000. Anyways..they trailer still had a lot of decent things.... my friends dad cleared it it. Got ownership and moved in 3 single moms in the 4 bedroom trailer. Gave them jobs.
the music at the beginning almost reminds me of Twin Peaks and I love it!
The facility is actually nice, imagine the things you could do with it if you were a small group of people.
You could clean out part of a floor, switch locks on doors, have your own place. Probably illegal as hell but imagine the possibilities.
Getting power and water restored would be a big problem especially if the utility cut it from their end.
i love watching these and imagining what the place would have been like back when it wasn't abandoned
uploaded on my birthday!! happy bday to me
Sarahspaghetti HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU
Sarahspaghetti, Happy Birthday Sarah!!
Sarahspaghetti HAPPY BIRTHDAY
Sarahspaghetti HAP HAP happy birthday girl hope your day is a AWESOME ONE!!!!
Been loving exploration videos lately especially these videos 👏🏾
That blood trail though.. i woulda been like nope blood = leaving time
Well, if you didn't smell anything and it wasn't fresh, maybe not. If it was still sticky, evac time.
I live in the Birmingham area and have been there multiple times. In every room of Caraway. A night investigation is surely something intense. Witnessed many things. Especially on the top floor.
omg the walking dead in reallife
VanzonHD Literally the hospital rick woke up in
Don't dead, open inside.
yes :D (you mean: dont open, dead inside?)
Awesome video guys! Can't wait to see part 2!
I ordered the power bank right away, because it looks amazing and 3400mAh in a 18650-battery is quite a statement. I'll give it a proper test, make a video about it and put it on my channel.
Carpetbagger was here a couple months ago, cool place.
Great job guys, your videos are always so entertaining and fun to watch, more so than most of the similar videos you see on tv.
"Heart Failure Management"? I've never heard or seen that term. To me Cardiology Unit or something would be more positive and accurate.
You must be one of those people who says "handi-capable" instead of handicapped
@@mickdavis2385 Well he is kinda right. In hospitals they try not to make things sound so blunt so the patient, or the families of the victims take it more lightly.
My aunt was the assistant to the top guy (CEO? President? whatever you call him) of Carraway for over a decade, up until the closure. I bet she would be sad to see the state of the place after a decade. Another good video, thanks for the content guys. And I can confirm that Carraway cared about patients. They would drop charges for patients that couldn't afford to pay, unlike most hospitals that will come after you, harass you and try to take your house if you're poor.
Anyone else curious if it still has that nasty hospital smell?
I like the disinfectant smell.
Migletpiglet it surprisingly doesn't
Migletpiglet the building is abandoned so why would it still smell like disinfectants?
Migletpiglet it's a good point we went to a Abandoned military Hospital in Scotland it's been closed for years and you hear us talking about the strong hospital smell
Doubt it. The small is alcohol which dissipates pretty quickly. The reason hospitals smell like that is because they're constantly reapplying it.
Every hospital in Birmingham have hotel rooms. Great video guys! I've seen several before yours and you went deeper into hospital.
The bloody sock was probably from somebody who stepped on something sharp.
I have been counting down till a new video! This was a great vid guys!
It's sad to see a hospital close down due to bankruptcy and just left to rot😑
The best chilling chair to date, watching TV! Top notch video's you guys produce!
