    At 2.30 the green to the right should probably not be upstream but downstream enhancer right?

    I just learned that my father's cousin (my first cousin, once removed) was instrumental in discovering Enhancers back in the early 80s at Harvard. Julian Banerji, I'm so proud to be related to him. He and his two sisters and his wife and their husbands are all wonderful humans
    Edit: and Arpan, if you are wondering why I, a white guy in America am related to a Banerji it's because Julian's mother met and married a man in India back in the 1940s. Not sure if she was traveling in India for a summer and met him then or what the story is. Julian's mother and my father's mother were sisters.
    So my father has 3 first cousins who are half Bengali and I have 7 second cousins who are 1/4 Bengali
    Im in the middle of reading the account of the discovery, I'll try and link the article here soon

      @@animatedbiologywitharpan I can't post the link but if you'd like to read about the discovery you can search "Julian Banerji enhancer" and you'll find a post that says "happy 40th birthday Enhancer"
      That post contains the original 1983 paper and a new paper written by the lab director who recruited the team and he tells the whole story. I found it interesting

    Hello, could I ask if promoter is considered a regulatory element? Some sources do not consider as regulatory element. Thank you

    • @animatedbiologywitharpan
      @animatedbiologywitharpan  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is a regulatory element

    • @joanne7699

      @@animatedbiologywitharpan thank you for replying! Could I also ask but core promoter element itself Is not a regulatory element right?

    • @adelaide4356
      @adelaide4356 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@joanne7699 no the core promoter is not a regulatory element. Regulatory elements include promoter proximal elements (PPEs) such as the GC box and CCAAT box (upstream of the TSS by ~50-200 bp), and enhancers and silencers. Hope that helps!

    when an enhancer is bound, it stimulates the transcription of a specific gene? or more genes?

    • @animatedbiologywitharpan
      @animatedbiologywitharpan  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Very nice question ...actually 1 enhancer can influence multiple Gene's and it all depends how enhancer interacts with promoter in 3d

    This could be a subtle subtopic to explain epigenetics since it involves the regulation of gene expression.
