I have decided to teach myself British pronunciation/accent since 2012, for reasons that I currently think don't have much substance to them, like the way it sounds, it being uncommon among new learners to sound different, and as someone who tend to seek the origins of most things I went for British English as it being the original way of speaking English... All that aside, my convos and thought process while speaking to people tend to be quicker and smoother when speaking British as purer as I can, compared to speaking with a mixed accent; I just speak better and affluently and for now wouldn't go through accent training, although comments like speaking a British accent or even being mistaken for a British person are a bit of a downside to this choice, and as it somehow doesn't suit me as an identity, I sometimes change my accent a bit to sound less British, but would struggle to undo it completely by now :D

I also spend a lot of time, when working in London, with Americans, Aussies, Kiwis and South Africans as well and took in a lot of different words.

I think that It doesn't matter which accents that we speak as the second language. It's crucial to pronounce every single word clearly. In addition, it's better to focus on English itself than accents like expressions, phrasal verbs, idioms and collections etc.
You speak with precise clarity. You have amazing pronunciation which can be understood globally. Well, basically American English came from Great Britain with various contractions in grammar and spellings. If you have mastered British English, then you can understand American English better esp if you have digested the history.
Absolutely correct. Once you understand British English, you can understand American English, Singlish, Australian English, etc except one which needs more attention due to their accents.
This may sound weird, but. one of the main reasons I adopted a British accent is Anya Taylor Joy. I'm sure some of you know who she is, an incredible actress who native language is Spanish. Anya moved to England, she learnt English from an early age and she sounds almost like native speaker. As you said Anna, you can tell she has a hybrid accent between British English and American English. When she speaks Spanish and usually forgets what she was about to say she uses English words. A true bilinguial brain.
I have always loved to speak with British English since i graduated from the collage.... My english is the mixture of cockney and Brummie accent... I love British English.
British English is what it says on the box ENGLISH, what is spoken abroad in the USA or Australia is just their version. What is the point of learning the true English if you are from the states you already speak it with a few different spellings of words, we understand you, it is you who do not understand other English speaking nations. Take for example American TV programmes, why when they put a supposedly English person in the programme they end up speaking with an Essex Accent.
@Bianca Donzelli I think Bianca you need to check the Oxford English Dictionary first, in England Programme is spelt as such ( Programme with a double M and an e on the end ) it is American's that spells it as program, I have checked the Oxford Dictionary for clarification, so another way the Yanks do not know correct English, sorry.
I was living in a region of my country that people speak a different version of English..Creole English( In Bluefields or Corn Island ) but I've always considered the same language...it's so interesting to know different kind of pronunciation and words...
One of the best British accent i've ever heard is in the Vikings serial; try to hear (in my view, of course) the way of speaking of King Ecbert, the caratcher. He is really deep, stilish, Shakespearean...
I started learning American English mainly because of all the American TV series and movies (films hehe) and one day, with almost C2 listening comprehension level, I realized I couldn't understand some British TV series so I decided to listen to more and more British English series and TH-cam channels. That's how I found your channel 🤗
As an American, I will agree that we generally find the British accent pleasing to hear. I mean, all accents seem to have their mystique, but the British accent seems to have a special place in our hearts, and it's the one that most people can mimic to some degree, here. As to your point about those learning English having difficulty understanding some English speakers, when I was young, my dad worked for a company here that had a sister plant in Ireland. One of their Engineers came to visit the factory here, and my dad invited him to our home for dinner and conversation. His accent was very thick, and he spoke incredibly fast! As a native English speaker (albeit with an American accent), even I had trouble understanding him at times, and when we would speak, he would continuously say "Yeah, yeah, yeah... yeah... yeah, yeah", which kind of made me feel like I was speaking too slowly and he was trying to hurry me along. So even among English speakers... sometimes English can be difficult to understand, if the accents are different enough. Oh... it was also this fellow from Ireland who informed me that the American term for your "bum bag" was offensive in the UK. We call those things "fanny packs". LOL Sorry, you probably knew that already, but I had to throw it in. I always found that amusing. Been enjoying some of your videos. Cheers!
Hi Anna 👋 🙂, I've automatically chosen British English because: - it's what I was taught in school when I was a teenager (I'm from Europe after all), - it's easier for me to pronounce words with a British accent (in American English the R sound and the T that sounds like D are so weird to me and harder to pronounce), - and, finally, the British accent pleases my ears more 😊 I'll give you a confidence that will probably sound crazy: my suitable English accent could be the Queen's one but with the A (æ) of Northerners.....it'd be perfect for me 😃....😳 Merry Christmas! 😇🎄
I used to be taught British English/RP and listened mostly to the British music, but later I realised that I like some regional accents. Now I try to include things I like from different accents (usually in a somewhat milder form) into my pronunciation, and I don't make nearly as much an effort to get rid of my Eastern European accent anymore. I want to have some character to my accent. To a non-native English speaker I sound British, to an American I could maybe sound like a Brit too, and to a Brit I would sound weird (most likely just like a foreigner with a mild undefined accent)
Living in the UK for 3 years now I realized the number of accents you have. And in Liverpool, I must say the Scouse is quite difficult. But I love them all... 🇬🇧 And YES, my accent is mixed. Some think I’m Dutch by the way I speak but I’m actually brazilian.
As an American, I find British English fascinating but when listening, because so many letters seem to be omitted in speech, it makes it more difficult to figure out the spelling of less common words or place names when listening.

Well in my case I really love British English...that's my favourite...I'm crazy for it...♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️ thanks for the video...
I’m a big fan of British English, but... 😉🏴
Mother is mother. ..
Cheers!
I’ve just decided to learn British English because a beautiful teacher wants me to learn British accent :)
Hi Anna 👋 🙂, I've automatically chosen British English because:
- it's what I was taught in school when I was a teenager (I'm from Europe after all),
- it's easier for me to pronounce words with a British accent (in American English the R sound and the T that sounds like D are so weird to me and harder to pronounce),
- and, finally, the British accent pleases my ears more 😊
I'll give you a confidence that will probably sound crazy: my suitable English accent could be the Queen's one but with the A (æ) of Northerners.....it'd be perfect for me 😃....😳
Merry Christmas! 😇🎄
British English, especially in the South East, is the most attractive sound of English, is sophisticated and elegant. I love the most!!
You are a good teacher, thank you very much
I like british accent, but i really LOVE Anna's accent... so i definitely choose british english !
Hi Anna can you do another video about how to improve my writing skills
As an American, I find British English fascinating but when listening, because so many letters seem to be omitted in speech, it makes it more difficult to figure out the spelling of less common words or place names when listening.
Lovely! I love British accent, I'd prefer take this for me. But as you said, mostly materials are american accent and it became easier and comfortable to learn. Hopefully when I get the perfect fluency, I'd go for british accent. Tks for the video anyway
