I enjoyed how Q used an old routine and made it fresh. Sign of a true artist. He did throw in some old stuff that the crowd still loves, and that's why he waves some of it off like 'aww that's old shit' hahah peace.
I get that Jeff created the transformer scratch...but how many scratches has Q invented/taken to completely different levels? Lots. Definitely not dissing Jeff, the guy's a pioneer and is a monster, but in my mind Qbert has taken scratching to a whole new level. His scratches are more technical than almost any other DJ on the planet. His whole life has been about the study and pursuit of scratching, whereas Jeff is arguably a more well-rounded DJ who can rock a party like crazy. Just my 2 cents
7 dislike lol qbert is a legend an inventor new stuff my fav and jazzy jeff. skratchbastid heavy to.. this record been skratched since 85 this is no doubt the best one done
@trooper40below Jazzy Jeff is such a badass! Definitely a pioneer, but so is QBert. Best not to compare the 2. QBert is doing shit that blows my mind every time I see him touch a record.
I respect your opinion, as everyone has the right to their own and is entitled to voice it....lets just say we will have to "agree to disagree" if you TRULY believe QBert is a better DJ than Jeff... My opinion has not changed, one iota.
No one does the rock the bells routine better than the iconic dj jazzy jeff. And the only thing dj q-bert did was invent was the crab scratch. Real talk 💯
Real talk u dummy jeff is cool live at union square and all that but he bit alot shit of joe coolie q bert in vented like 50 differnt scratches and real talk no one is fuckin with this shit not craze not noize Q is the bruce lee of djing respect on his name
Now let's break it down, Jeff and Q are totally two different styles of DJ's, I wouldn't even consier Qbert an actual DJ but more of a showcase performer in turntablism. Jazzy Jeff's form of drumming is more about transformers while Qbert does more syncopation in between kicks and snares. Both are capable of drumming and have proven it through the years, but Qbert took an extra element of drumming to a beat through the headphones so his timing is sharper.
To say Qbert is not an actual DJ is some absolutely absurd shit when he was literally a champion battle dj, literally a legend with the Skratch Picklz and DJ'ed in Bay Area night clubs for years. He's any hip-hop dj worth anything knows both of them are legends and trail blazers.
The only result I come to with what this chap has stated, is that he has no clue what the fuck he is talking about. Jeff is one of the most consistent, clean and innovative Dj's that comes from the heart of the scene and has much soul. Forget Will smith.
I personally like DJ Cash Money & DJ Jazzy Jeff's Rock The Bell Routines better. I've said it B4 & I'll say it again, I greatly admire & have the UTMOST respect for Q's "Technical" skills regarding the art form, but listening to this routine reminds me why his stuff doesn't hit me like the other 2 guys I mentioned. Listening to this, it sounds as if I'm listening to a car wreck.. It's all technique & no soul..
@djbjam Yes Jazzy Jeff did invent transforming and revolutionized Djing. He is credited with inventing it and stop being a hater. Who else did it before him? No one.
I don't think I can argue the fact that Jazzy Jeff's a better DJ, but I think Q is the better turntablist. Jeff can rock a crowd like no other, and no matter who you put in front of him, they're going to come away amazed. With Q there definitely needs to be a very specific audience since he is so focused on scratching. Don't get me wrong, Jeff has some pretty crazy routines, but that's Qbert's forte. I think turntablism and DJing are things that should be considered separately in this case.
If you are referring the Qbert's headphones when he is drumming, and then you should have referred to it specifically. I don't know what beat machine you refer to because it could simply be the beat of another record playing on the second turntable, I've seen that in a video before.
No disrespect to JJ or all of the Jazzy Jeff Stans, here, but he didn't invent the Transformer Scratch. He was credited with being the first to employ it on a record release, which is not exactly correct. But, what does JJ have to do with Q-Bert scratching "Rock the Bells"?
You didn't answer my question. When exactly has anyone in history ever used the "aid" of a device you refer to as a "beat machine"? I am a Jazzy Jeff fan myself, same with as a fan of Qbert. But regardless, I have never in the history of turntablism have ever heard anyone use a metronome over their scratching. Now with that said...
Jazzy Jeff is never ever sloppy. He invented the transformer scratch and you really shouldn't be disrespecting him. Q-bert is heavily influenced by Jeff as soooo many DJ's are. You really need to go back to school.
Define "turntabalism", in your opinion?? We both agree Jeff is a more rounded DJ, however, we differ in opinion about the technical aspects of DJ'n, apparently. I don't recall EVER hearing Jeff miss a break on a record... There simply is NO ONE better on them wheels than DJ Jazzy Jeff Townes... #I'm from Chi-Town, too!!
I did go and view Q's 1991 World DMC Final routine, and frankly I thought his beat juggling technique left a little something to be desired. His cuts and scratches are lightning quick, though, and clearly are his calling card. He represents one of the best of the "New School" DJ's, but DJ Jazzy Jeff is the JORDAN of those turntables...simple and plain.
REALLY?!? If I REALLY have to answer that question WE don't need to be having a discussing about DJn...smh. Simply put, TRUE DJ's that are superior at cutting, scratching, beat juggling, and the like, only require TWO turntables, two records, a mixer and a CROWD to get busy on the one and two's!!! Listen to both DJ's styles, closely...you'll figure it out... Jeff the BEST to ever do it...BAR NONE!!!
"Someone's fanboy"??? Then what WOULD you call yourself if you expect me to believe Qbert is better than Jeff?? I been on this hip-hop music for over 30 years... I have heard alot of different MC's, DJ's, and groups...NONE do it like Jeff...he ALWAYS delivers...just like the mail, homie. Learn your HISTORY, first....
YOU feel QBert is a better DJ than Jeff, too?? Have you ever saw Jazzy Jeff perform LIVE?? If you have, you would never have even THOUGHT such a thought, let alone spoke on it...smh.
you don't rate a DJ by scratching alone.when it comes to scratching and cutting hell yeah Qbert is the best..but when you talk about best dj it's hands down jazzy Jeff...his cuts and scratches may not be as fast as Qbert but they sound way better....
@@ronniecruz4675 word. qbert is always searching and doing new stiles love him . jazzy what can u say DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince - Live at Union Square 88 says it all
My point is, just like any real drummer, they can play on beat pretty well, but can play very perfectly with a metronome. But your claim that Qbert is incapable without aid is giberish. I respect both guys, but don't preach two turntables a mixer and a crowd, when Jeff was the first one to use a laptop before Qbert. If you want to move forward in life stopping looking to the past.
Look...STOP THE BULLS**T!!! DJ Jazzy Jeff's DNA is ALL UP IN the style of DJ Qbert, D-Styles, Roc Raider, and any OTHER "new jack" DJ you could name. If you listen CLOSELY, JEFF scratches records WITHOUT the aid of beat machines to BE funky.. We are talking about the CREATOR of the transformer scratch!!! Please don't tell me you have EVER heard a DJ ILLER than DJ JAZZY JEFF--THE BEST TO EVER DO IT!!!! " I don't care who you tell..."
Then WHY, pray tell, would you suggest I go watch Q-Bert's old DMC battles?? Any DECENT DJ should be able to accomplish THAT... Point of the matter is, he nice on the wheels...just not Jeff. That is the jest of MY statement. Can you comprehend THAT??
Don't get me wrong, Qbert IS nice at scratching...however, lets face facts: he's typically nice on ONE turntable!!! REAL cut masters do they thing, WELL, on TWO turntables...ala Jeff, Cash Money, TAT Money, DJ Scratch, DJ Premier, and the list goes on... At the end of the day, DJ Jazzy Jeff Townes is the coldest to ever touch them turntables...Just MY 2 cents...
Q is great no doubt....Jeff is purely magnificent!!!
Never heard a dj transform with such precision.
I enjoyed how Q used an old routine and made it fresh. Sign of a true artist. He did throw in some old stuff that the crowd still loves, and that's why he waves some of it off like 'aww that's old shit' hahah peace.
DJ Jazzy Jeff is a Pioneer in the Scratch Game Betta recognize!!! Much respect to Q-Bert his one of my favorites!!!
Fcking Sick. You can absolutely understand he put in WORK to be this good.
That last bit blew my mind

Q-Bert is the #1 skratchmaster eva
Respect! Q Bert the master!
and when I say old, I mean, he's been doing the Rock the bells thing since 1993 at least.
Like watching Beethoven play the piano
you're nuts Jeff is one of the best all around djs in the world

I have enough self-respect not to be someone's fanboy, no matter how much I respect their work. You might want to try it.

Nice attempt to troll. But say this to all battle DJs in person and see what response you get back. No shade to Jeff. But your statement is…..

jeff is always on point. SICK scratching on hes the dj im the rapper. Jazzy is the shit!
I didnt know Jazzy Jeff was in this video.
he does his business on ...2...make no mistake...2 turntables!!!
the boss
Maybe you should watch Q-Bert's old DMC battles or routines he's had where he has beat-juggled.
If you are referring the Qbert's headphones when he is drumming, and then you should have referred to it specifically. I don't know what beat machine you refer to because it could simply be the beat of another record playing on the second turntable, I've seen that in a video before.

Two different type of DJs. Q chose the musician route. J is very good at rocking a party.

Why don't you learn reading comprehension, as I never contrasted Jeff against Q-Bert.
this guy qbert is so over rated as a dj
