How do you set the tensioner??? Clockwise or counterclockwise? I turned mine clockwise like you said. But after letting the car warm up I noticed the tensioner moved slightly to the right (Warmer) side, is that normal?

Some of them don't have marks. I think the mark is for belt replacement. If yours doesn't have, you can make one yourself before taking old timing belt off.
Hey Olfen , because of your years of experience...Do you have an opinion on a 2004 volvo S40 L5-2.5L 93k are there any mechanical issues one should know about?
Hi, I think it is a very good car. Ample power from the 2.5 liter turbo engine. Most importantly, you need to be sure that the car you are considering is in great condition. A pre-purchase inspection at a shop isn't a bad idea. Timing belt, thermostat, sludge, oil leaks and PCV system are areas to pay close attention. I think you'll enjoy it as long as you get one in great condition, bring it's maintenance up to date and keep it that way. Good luck!
Hi mate, in an unrelated subject to the video above, would you by any chance know what is the Black Plastic container attached to the wiper tank is for? You can easly have a visiual on it if you remove the Driver side/Right side indicator front light. It is Cylindrical and has two rubber pipes attached to it on the top. One of those pipes in my Car were loose and it smelled petrol al over it. I am just wondering what does it do exactly. Thanks!
hello, pls i have a s40 with the IAT sensor disconnected but i see five (5) cable ,2 reads 5.1v, another 2 is ground and the last one i don't know. what colours goes to the IAT sensor?
It depends on whether those seals have been recently replaced. If they haven't, better to have them changed before a new timing belt. NOTE that you will definitely need a cam holding tool for the exhaust cam seal. You can get by without the tool for the intake and crank seals. Also, a seal remover will make removal faster and nick-free.
+Ty clayton Great question. Due to its important function (timing of opening and closing of valves in relation to crankshaft position), car manufacturers recommend certain intervals for replacement in miles / years (e.g. 75,000 mi / 6 yrs). Also, if the belt gets contaminated by oil, it may not hold up for the recommended interval so replacement is strongly advised. Also, after buying a car without credible service history, it is also recommended to replace it and accompanying hardware (tensioner, idler pulleys, water pump) for peace of mind and assurance. Consequences of the timing belt going bad are usually extensive engine damage which is usually expensive to repair. Bent valves, damaged pistons, loss of compression, etc.
manual says replace belt and tensioner at 105,000 miles. Its a zero clearance engine. Which means if it fails that there is little to none forgiveness room and your engine can explode like ours did...
Thanks brother, perfectly explained
May God bless you and your family
If only every video was this good at getting all the necessary info across 👍
Good notes!! Dont worry about the res & battery. You got all the good points across, greatly appreciated!!
I believe you can place the new belt back on by twisting the belt a tad behind the harmonic balancer. Thanks for the great video man.
You’ll probably never see this but your comment helped me so much thank you when working on my car
This helped me a lot, thank you for the video! All the best from Germany
I'm glad you found it helpful.
THANK YOU for your description
You can take off the tensioner in order to replace belt. It is a lot easier.
hello to take off the harmonic balancer you need to release the accessories belt . Thing is needed to know is how to put back this belt on. Thank you

Yes, I think that is normal. The position of the pointer varies with temperature.

Where is vvt gear stay on the exhaust or inlet?
Did you change the water pump?
No. I didn't. They last a really long time if OEM and good coolant is used.
