      you do realize that China bans literally every piece of US software right? openAI is banned there too, along with literally every other US piece of software that doesn't allow itself to be governed by the CCP. It's not really a free market when one side is entirely closed and bans all of your stuff. Anything made in China should be banned out of principle until they unban our stuff.

      The Chinese already know not to touch that one with a ten foot pole, even if they can with not that much effort access a wiki on the matter. Much of the censorship in China functions more along the lines of a cancel culture, e.g. you don't actually get in trouble for dissident speech necessarily, but it might get awfully inconvenient when you're up for a promotion, and given that most social media is real id verified in China it can become quite an issue if you get banned, especially on something like WeChat, which is the everything app Elon drools over(it does EVERYTHING, chat, video, payments, free money transfer, food delivery, rental bikes, taxi hire, stocks, plane tickets, games, covid status when that was a thing, online shopping, and I'm barely scratching the surface, it's pretty amazing honestly). I don't think they care enough to censor the model itself, as long as the public phasing app is kept in check.

    • @felicityc
      @felicityc 2 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1

      That was a very minor reason, they were far ahead of Europe for many centuries. That was a very long, drawn out process of technologies being developed for European-style warfare which was unique to Europe, and the Ottomans had schooled Europeans for centuries all the way up to Wien.
      Their bureaucratic systems were not built to quickly change tradition, and the fashion of the time (Islamic legalism which was more traditionalist compared to oldschool mysticism and the more creative, progressive Islam it followed) meant various old ways of doing things were stubbornly held onto, and when there was attempted reform, factions of the government would violently fight back at themselves, even though it was well understood they were falling behind- keeping the Janissaries is a key example, a clearly outdated concept that was dangerous in its core, and very unpopular. However, that cutting-edge military doctrine was sort like having the first car. Everyone did it better afterwards, but you still have the first car, so why change if it still worked? Until it overthrows your government because the state did not catch up. Or something
      So, it's always a discerning mixture of factors that leads to decline of that nature. It almost always goes back to problematic irenic bureaucracy and a lack of diversity in politics and ideas.

    • @InvankovSama
      @InvankovSama ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1

    Speaking as an aging techy, the problem with people over e.g., 70 is that it becomes harder and harder to keep up with new developments every year. This is due both to the exponential nature of discovery (given similar population growth) and the biological fact that aging causes a reduction in neuroplasticity.
    Older people have more "crystallized" intelligence. However, their knowledge comes from domains that grow increasingly narrow relative to the whole corpus of human knowledge. Younger people are more likely to have a broad base of newer, more future-relevant experiences and less obsolete baggage.
    The sweet spot is probably around 35 years old, but a mix of old and young is probably interesting if they can cooperate. Ultimately, exceptional intelligence can be found in either age, though popularity contests (elections) don't necessarily guarantee intelligent victors.

    It's about maintaining US hegemonic power. They are getting afraid of "actually" not being the only global superpower in town. In current times Prime, it's very foolish to not being at least minimally informed about politics.

    Government: Code funded by the government must be open sourced.
    Also Government: We will jail you if use open source projects that the government funds via false exchange rates.

      We simply have a tyrant regime that is out of control. They are like thousands of Palpatines in power at the same time.

    I mean, some research fields (climate, gender, etc.) are already getting scrubbed and banned right now so I would not be surprised if this passes… Man am I glad I’m not a US citizen but that sucks so much… Courage to y’all, you’ll need it!

      The worst part of being a US citizen is that you're forced to pay US taxes even if you move to another country and it's extremely hard to revoke US citizenship. Even when I try to leave I'll still be shackled to this place

    Keep in mind that Hawley probably had little to no involvement in actually writing it; it was probably his staff and/or lobbyists. I'd wager that he saw all the news headlines about the financial impacts of Deepseek and just directed his staff (most of whom are probably political science majors or similar) to write a bill in response, and the entire lot of them are just clueless about how AI, open source, and research all work.

    this is big tech, let's not play devils advocate on this one. This open-source model hurt a lot of the mag7. Now like always they seek to minimize the affect and ban it, thus restoring their oligopoly
