- When the track conditions are right, the track speed here in Aplington is 50 mph, which is less common for jointed rail. I took these videos on November 22 and 23 2022.

This is a one of a railfans favorite sound to hear
Watching Practical Engineering brought me to your video, thanks for getting this.
It’s rare to see 60 mile per hour trains on jointed rail now days
That's true, but the track speed on this line is 50
Most mainlines have welded rail and not jointed rail. Ones with jointed rail (like the one in the video) must be maintained a lot and checked for loose spikes, plates, etc. This track is an example of what properly maintained jointed rail looks like.
Love this
Spectacular video. There’s a few stretches on the Reading & Northern’s main line (primarily in Molino and New Ringgold on the one-time Reading Company Little Schuylkill Branch between Port Clinton and Tamaqua) with some very well-maintained jointed rail that’s good for up to 40 miles per hour.
I got to ride on those rails last August. Glad they still have a stretch of that.

I make it a point to ride between Reading and Jim Thorpe every chance I get.
Great video! I need to try going here!
Nice work
Thanks man
Nice catches!
