      I used to be a chef for years, so I had really good knife skills. When I started as a bartender they asked me to peel an orange for them for a garnish. I peeled the entire orange from top to bottom in one piece. The looked at me like I was a wizard. Any ways I cut it into 3 pieces and people had this awesome spiral shaped orange peel in their drink that made it look really nice

      128, 256, 512, 1024, 2048, 4096, and 8192 are really hard, if not impossible, for a ball to be hand stitched together while still looking like a spherical object.

    I work with both an Industrial Waterjet (a 2015 Flow Mach 1000) and an Industrial Laser Cutter (a 2002 Trumpf TRUmatic L2530). They're equally as accurate, but waterjets severely struggle with super soft materials, such as leather. They make up for this by being able to cut things that lasers can't, such as composites, ceramics, quartzite and granite, and have a much easier time cutting glass. However, the laser is much better for quickly changing your cutting beam diameter, and can process thin materials stupidly quick.

    Ball tilling suggestion:
    The regular black and white tilling of a soccer ball is the "alternated truncation" of a rhombic triacontahedron, however if you go for the "full truncation" instead, you get a shape called the "fully truncated rhombic triacontahedron", a shape I think is very pretty and would make for a great tilling!
    An image of the shape can be found on the wikipedia page of the rhombic triacontahedron under "related polyhedra".

      I’m pretty sure what he meant by impractical was that it was not only tedious but also difficult to manufacture in-house. So much so that he required outside help. And needing to find someone else with the proper equipment to do so certainly wasn’t free. And outsourcing on a small scale isn’t cheap. Paying someone to provide their services greatly effects the bottom line and profit margins. He’d have to either buy the expensive machines or continue to pay someone else to do it. Either option means less money made for each ball produced or him charging more for each ball which means less money in your pocket and also less people purchasing it due to its higher cost and goes back to less money for him at the end of the day yah know lol

    • @pizzlerot2730
      @pizzlerot2730 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +17

      Not really, since the final 2D surface still needed to be stretched into a sphere by inflation. It's literally impossible to turn a sphere into a truly representative 2D surface (at least given the physical laws of our universe), because there will always be a third dimension of curvature on any section of a sphere no matter how small, and that simply can't exist in 2 dimensions. Truly "flat" sections of a sphere must be infinitesimally small, meaning there is an infinite number of them; and since this is a single piece, then you'd end up with an infinitely long, infinitesimally wide map - not terribly practical 😂
      In other words, even using this pattern to map the Earth onto a 2D surface would still produce loads of scale compression in some areas. It's just the nature of geometry.

    I have a great ball idea!!!!!!! Make one out of the bottom of the cleats!!!! It will be difficult since it's hard plastic but it would be amazing with many ways to show it off!!! I would use a shoe that has a cool colored bottom like any soccer shoes that come in those cool glossy neon green, hot pink, gloss red, it good black plastic resin. I suggest you use the screwable kind of cleats too, giving you those options I spoken about, you have the option to remove them and use the ball without hurting your feet and obviously so it doesn't stop the ball from rolling while the cleats are on, but also to have the option to screw them back in when it's time to display your ball and show it off. You can also display it with different color cleats I mean you can even use any color or mix of colors you buy online so long as the clients buy the right size to fit in the thread size. There are literally tons of different colors sizes materials of screwable cleat tips to choose from the sky's the limit. It would look so cool kicking it around with a bunch of the metal screw-in holes or threading showing when you don't have the cleats screwed in, people will ask about them. I think it would look best with ONE screw in cleat centered on EACH hexagon or whatever shape, size or pattern the pieces that you stitch in, I can send you a drawing of it too bro. You should totally do it, it would possibly be the most customisable and likely popular ball thus far.

    Waterjet cutters can certainly be quite accurate, around the same as a laser cutter. The problem with this cut was that they use quite a bit of force and so when cutting soft materials they can push the material around a bit during cutting, losing accuracy.
