    Great stuff. All very helpful. The club head speed control is a great tip.

    This is a good tip. In my last round, I played well but struggled on pitch shots from 70 yards and in and that cost me strokes on 3 or 4 different holes. Today, I practiced with my wedges on my SkyTrak and found that on full shots with my wedges, from 90-130 yards, I was quite good. But had the same troubles with shots in the 30-70 yard range. I'm thinking rather than trying different wedges for those distances (I carry PW, AW, SW, LW) maybe I'd be better off just choosing ONE wedge for those distances (30-70 yds) and trying to get good with just one club and varying the speed/ball position/trajectory. I'd have to think it would be easier to gain accuracy with just one club, rather than trying to master all four.

    Matt, I also try to finish low on lower trajectory shows and higher on higher trajectory shots.

    Love how you are focued on 1 to 2 yards of accuracy. As a high handicapper who plays onde a week it is a complete hit and hope every time. But it is interesting to know thst such accuracy is technically and theoretically possible. As always, thanks for your clear information.

      Get a warm up bucket before you play every week, helps immensely and the practice will compound over a season.

      @allenwelden7099 we don't have a driving/ practice range at our rural nz golfcourse.

    Excellent video Coach, makes the understanding simple and easy. One quick question though: I understand the positioning of the ball for the different flight paths but, what about the hands? Do you keep the hands centred with the sternum or, do they (and the club handle) move to be over the ball?

    • @CoachLockey
      @CoachLockey  ปีที่แล้ว

      Keep hands the same otherwise moving ball position is pointless

    Good info...can't wait to give it a try. The tip about open stance on these shots causing left misses is an aha moment for me. Didn't think about it until you mentioned it. Any comment/suggestion about what lofted club to play?

    • @CoachLockey
      @CoachLockey  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can do this with all loft wedges 👍

    what loft do you recommend using? Looks like you have a 60ish loft.

    good stuff! I've been using some of your tips and Mark's, and I've taken some ideas from Joe Mayo and Hovland's short game transformation. I just can't seem to do the "toss the bounce" stuff very well, or I can't be thinking that's what I"m trying to do.

    • @CoachLockey
      @CoachLockey  ปีที่แล้ว

      Toss the bounce for pitching or chipping?

    • @jonathanstevens2937
      @jonathanstevens2937 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CoachLockey well, I foolishly tried ot for both, but i struggle even to pitch with it unless its a fluffed lie. Im still using the bounce, of course! but when I consciously try to do the Dan Grieve/Gareth Raflewski type stuff, I fall back on my trail foot and blade or chunk it. Id hit 11 greens and shoot 85!!

    • @jonathanstevens2937
      @jonathanstevens2937 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CoachLockey when I try to do more of the Hovland move of staying way forward and hitting a bit more down (thats the feel, might not be what Im actually doing) it works decently well. To be clear, I'd generally call stuff outside of 50-60 yards a partial wedge. Those I see as partial swings with a narrow stance, and they've given me less trouble. Hit a low spinner stone dead from 70 yds today for a birdie.

  • @pbode1
    @pbode1 ปีที่แล้ว

    Simple enough and recognizable (ball position part), hadn't thought of the swing speed variable yet... furthermore, I always thought that the lower one would spin more (at the same clubspeed) but apparently that's a myth?

  • @bobbywickes8937
    @bobbywickes8937 ปีที่แล้ว

    The ball back in the stance causes me to draw the ball, often too much. Should I play with it or should I try and calm down the path/face a bit?

    • @CoachLockey
      @CoachLockey  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That completely depends on the situation but if it’s a consistent draw, I would play with it.

  • @commane21
    @commane21 ปีที่แล้ว

    Variable clubhead speed should come from different swing lengths rather than swinging harder or easier. Agree?

    • @CoachLockey
      @CoachLockey  ปีที่แล้ว

      Doesn’t matter. People work that out differently so whatever works best for you
