I absolutely love this car. Everyone wants to compare and complain. Let it be what it is. A reliable good looking sports car from the Honda/ Acura brand
@@jay.fromthebay not a, “hater,” just a realist. You can tell the truth about something without hating it. What is it? Maybe try some research into, “Badge engineering,” and you’ll quickly see that all Acuras are 95% generic Hondas, with some pieces added/changed to disguise it. Car guys prefer actual performance cars, that were designed from the ground up, to be a performance car. This “Acura” would be cool for about 65% of the price and if people didn’t try to compare it to sports cars. It’s possible for it to be interesting in its own right.
I was fortunate enough to pick one up when they were first introduced in 2021. The build quality far exceeded my expectations; I have yet to experience any squeaks or rattles at 25k miles. Ride comfort is supremely good, it's insulated in a way that makes the ELS sound system that much better, and in general, it's a fantastic GT car. However, switching to Sport+ mode gives me plenty of smiles whenever i find myself on a twisty backroad... and that V6 + active exhaust combo is music to my ears. 🎶
my dad had a tlx launch edition, not a type S.. but something I've always noticed was the steering was obscenely numb and light. mom's rdx was more confident inspiring with steering feel. did they ever fix this?
Didn't have AWD or nearly as nice of an interior. or handling for that matter Also the boosted 6 can be tuned to have alot more powa And looks 10x better
@@GoonSquad710 paid $5.5k canadian for my 07 tl type s 212k kms while this new tlx costs $65k before tax. There is also the 09-14 TL SHAWD with J37 and manual as well for cheap
Ahh the TLX, exterior sized like an accord but has less interior space than a civic... Also in the era of the mythical B58 nothing holds a candle in this segment.
You beat me to it. This is my #1 criticism of this car and why I never understood it from the beginning. It just doesn't make sense. Why not buy a 10th gen Accord?
I love the looks of the TLX, and the updated tech is nice, however for the price I would never buy one new. Like the IS, this will be a great used car in a few years.
Agreed. Prices for new cars these days are crazy in my opinion. I get it..But like I so don't. And good comparison, Honda and Toyota along with their luxury variants are very comfortable buys used.
Thank you for having a reasonable opinion on the IS. Everyone else seems to love it. I also love the 2009 IS. I dont like 2009 IS post post post face-lift in 2023 though.
As a previous red TLX Type-S owner, I like the new facelift version, it brings all the good gadgets from MDX. But I think Acura has forgotten something, where's the red one?
M340i thooo I'd get that everyday and twice on Sunday over this. This car looks like basic traffic and it's slower and less reliable then a b58. U also get far better luxury and tech. Would be my choice easily
I picked up a Type S in June, had to fly to Phoenix to find one at MSRP, it’s not the fastest, but it still has plenty of power, handles great, and looks great. It’s a excellent value proposition at MSRP. I think like other type s models in the past, this will gain popularity with time on the used market where the Honda reliability plus decent performance will become appealing to many.
Being the very small majority who takes thier Type-S to the track; I absolutely love this car, although it is no where near perfect, suspesion, wheels, tires, and a tune with an exhaust wakes this car up so much. Stock the platform is great on street although I really prefer the physical gages on the pre refresh. Thanks for the great review guys!
I’ve had my TLX Type S for a few months now and feel the exactly same way. I even overlooked this car for the past few years but one I drove it, I had to have it and it doesn’t disappoint one bit as my daily. I think this will be just as vintage as the original in 15-20 years
This being vintage? Yea I don't see that ever happening not with how Honda/Acura are currently and doesn't compare to it's predecessor and how it impacted in the car world of performance
The ‘24 addresses a couple of things that were nice to have but the car was already great. I do prefer the Y-Spoke wheels on the ‘21-‘23 bc they resemble the NSX’s. Also like the difference driving dynamic throughout the modes. Do your homework but cannot go wrong with the Type-S IMO
@9:30 to switch between radio stations, you can just use the knob on the left side of the steering wheel and flick it left or right. It'll take you to your next radio stations.
I love my 2023 Type S, I got it in tiger eye pearl. I get complimented on it literally almost daily. It really wows people and I love it. It came down to this or an IS500 for me. Went with Type S cause the IS transmission is horrible and the interior kinda dated. Obviously the IS has arguably the holy grail engine for the segment, but in my area, it was almost 11K more and it didn't feel worth it IMO.
2024 Type S. Urban Grey Metallic. Also complimented literally every day. Around here they are rare. Wilmington, NC, pop 200k, did not even know this car existed until I saw one online and drove 2 hours away to find the color I wanted.
@@gonzo910910yeah people shit on this car for some reason. I love mine, I actually went to drive an IS500 again thinking of trading in my type s for it and couldn’t do it. I love my type S and will probably get another one.
I own this car in '23 model and agree it is underrated. Overall, it's a great daily driver with some fun, dynamic sports car feel! It is a little too heavy and it could use 50 more hp but as you all said, it is a "cool" car that is very well built, drives incredibly well and has one of the best suspensions in the class as well as one of the best stereos in any car! I love the look of the car and the fact that it is a Type S and I don't see many on the road like I do BMW's. There are cars that outperform it but I still really like the car for what it is and as a commuter on the highway, this car drives great! It is an excellent value for what you get with this car and if you can buy/lease at a good price, this is a very solid choice in the sport sedan segment!
Glad to see someone that appreciates it for what it is, yes the bmw drivetrain has more potential but as the TLX Type-s sits m, it's still comfortable with great dynamics. A lovely car to use daily.
I just don't see why u would ever get this over a bmw. Bmw is better in every single category. More luxury. Better sounding engine. Looks better espicially with aftermarket mods, handles better, more tech, faster. And it's a bmw
@@G82Wattsthe BMW is more expensive. The TLX Type-S comes with all the tech in base form (as long as it's the Type-S), while the m340 requires you to spec it on with packages. After you equivalently spec the cars (upgraded stereo, adaptive dampers, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, heated steering wheel, HUD), the BMW costs thousands more.
@@G82Wattslooks are subjective cause the car imo looks better than majority of bims on the road with only a handful of m cars looking as good or better imo and the price point on those already is a different ballpark. Some people just love the car for what it is and it makes for a still great daily that has a great sound system and an incredibly smooth ride and i’ve been in m cars yet the acuras suspension is way easier
A very underrated car. Double wishbone front suspension makes it turn in like a car that weighs arond 3000lbs. The 10spd transmission is fun with the paddles, youre constantly shifting without going triple digits. Best bang for your buck by far in its category
I was in the market for this and loved the Type S, but a couple of days ago I bought a loaded G70 instead. The Type S is rare enough that ADM still exists which pushes it very close to a mid spec'd M340i or IS500, both of which make the Type S a tough tough sell. Meanwhile I got a new, maxed out SP G70 for less than $50k USD, about $7-8k off sticker, and at that price I am very very happy! I have a feeling in 5 years or so these Type S's are gonna be an insane buy, but right now they are a bit expensive.
Had the same problem last year and ended up in the 23' M340i Xdrive for less than what the Acura dealers wanted for the Type S. Doesn't have all the bells and whistles but it's fine without them. Can't miss what you never had. No way is the Type S worth 60k and I can not imagine someone paying the premium for the PMC edition.
I shortlisted just about the same cars and ended up Buying a Model 3 Long Range. Of course sometimes I miss the engine sound of ICE car but that's the only thing I can possibly miss.
@mrgamnwatch I traded in a Miata RF so not at all, but I may be a bit skewed on what is or isn't practical lol But I have had 4 adults in the G70, an infant rear facing car seat, and tons of large boxes boxes in the car at one point or another and had really no issues. Can you take the car to Lowes? Probably not. Can you do normal stuff and cart around a normal amount of people? Absolutely. Hell for the odd chore you can rent a pickup from Home Depot for like $40, I would rather do that and drive something fun the 99.99% of the other time.
Man I love genesis as a brand and their cars but they depreciate so hard. I think it’s mostly due to their design change schedule. They make a design and it only last a bit before they already have a new one out and then yours become the outdated one. If you look at other luxury brands they change their styling so slow. They need to shift away from the Hyundai mentality of quick redesign to a more classy lasting design.
Problem is they didn't fix the 4200Lb problem. When I was car shopping this time last year all the Acura dealers wanted 5-10k over MSRP for one. It may be a good looking car but it's not worth the extra $$$ when compared to either the M340I or S4. Both of which are lighter, faster, and more fuel efficient.
@@DavidBeltetonSo? As an M340I owner BMW covers maintenance for 3 years. Indy shops also exist that specialize in BMWs. $179 oil change isn’t “astronomical” in 2024. How much is one at an Acura dealership?
@@brenttitus2134Mine has been very reliable. Maybe you should have kept up with your maintenance if you even owned one. I don’t keep my cars for 10 years. Most people don’t either. And resale value is not a primary concern when you buy a German car. That’s a Honda guy thing.
Being someone who actually was shopping those cars as well and still bought a type s, I could agree on pricing, especially the markup since it took me 3 weeks to find a gold type s at MSRP and I ended up driving 4 hours to pick it up. I disagree with the maitainance cost, if your taking your car for service from the dealer your essentially burning your money and thats not on the car, you can just as easily find a smaller or honda/acura shop to do the services for you, the reason its expensive is for the convenice of not thinking about it. Also insurance on the Audi and the M340i in NJ or NY is insane compared to the Acura so it offsets the cost quite a bit practically speaking plus average maitainance on both german cars are higher as well. TBH I wouldent hold your breath for reliability with the audi but i know the m340 is pretty relliable from what I heard but the M340 had the same markup problem too for a long time.
TLX Type S is just 3 seconds slower on track than a M340i and less than 1 second slower than the new Z (non-Nismo). It's not a killer on the streets, but is super comfortable to drive around in. Whatever your priorities are, buy the appropriate car. However, it's hard to beat the value of a G70/Stinger.
@@E82N55 Type-S had aftermarket brakes and blew through a set of pads every day at the track. Also, the cars were tested a few years apart. Anyone who races on a track know that difference means nothing when not on the same day.
@@SlipAngleG70 sure, but the Type S is very strictly spec’d for the streets, and coming in at a lower MSRP than other vehicles to reflect that. And thermal braking capacity on the track doesn’t translate to the streets, but it is a 4400 pig nonetheless. So, like I said, evaluate your needs and goals, and buy the appropriate platform to achieve that.
Same, but I also considered M340i and S5 Sportback. Went with a Stinger because it was more affordable for me and $10-20k CDN cheaper than them while still being fully loaded with a hatch, 360 cam, hud, etc. 160,000km on it so far and it’s never left me stranded!
I did the same. The Singer was designed as a rear wheel drive car which handles better than the TLX even if you get AWD in the Stinger like I did. Also for me the TLX is longer and wider than the Stinger which I didn’t need. The Stinger is also faster. Last felt the Stinger was the better value and didn’t need luxury nameplate.
I bought a '23 Type S last March. At the time, I had narrowed my considerations down to it and the G70, and decided I was willing to give up the 360 camera, digital gauges, wireless PhoneClone, etc, for the much better feeling front-end and, in my opinion, vastly superior looks Then Acura goes and releases a refresh with literally all of those things 😅 (also, maybe there was a quiet refresh between your original review and buying my car, but I've always been able to set the ambient lighting to colors other than red)
U don’t need half that stuff 😂 all u need is a power mirror on the passenger to go down to check ur wheels and a backup cam tht 360 shit jus becomes a distraction bc it will beep tf out of u for no reason like u don’t know where ur car is but im a valet tho
We have a '23 Type-S and absolutely love it! Amazing car for the money. There is launch control on the Type-S: Sport+, S trans mode, brake 100%, gas 100%, let go of brake. Car will hold RPMs around 2000...its not super high, but it works pretty well. Also, in the US at least they have always had selectable color ambient lighting, was it just Canada that only had red?
I test drove one before I bought my IS500 and my main takeaway was that it was criminally underpowered. It's the slowest car in its segment with a 103 trap and you can feel it once you're off the line. Sure it handles nice, but it feels heavy and it's slow from a roll. Nobody is going to track this or any of the other sports sedans so the "super awesome handling" is a bit wasted. This car needs at least 50 hp more if not more. It traps like a bolt on New Edge GT and you can tell that it does.
@@bb5242 is the Type S even reliable? We don’t know that yet. New engine, new trans, and Honda/Acura don’t have the best track record for reliability these days. The only car in this segment that is without a doubt reliable is the IS500.
Nobody is going to track a FWD car against real sports sedans like CT4/5, M3/4/5, RS5, etc. The Acura is just a marginally higher-trimmed 4cyl FWD Honda civic. Handling is ok for FWD, but a total joke to anyone with RWD. Seems a bit of a high schooler’s car.
I own a 2023. To manually shift u have to select S mode AND down shift. It will auto shift 1-2 then u have to use paddles. If u only select S mode and don’t down shift it oddly stays in auto mode. Hope this helps somebody!
It’s not a rear bias system as was stated. They do a great job of directing torque to the rear wheels but it’s still a fwd primary system. The system itself will not reduce torque to the front wheels. When most manufacturers claim they can direct more than 50% torque to the secondary drive wheels, its theoretical meaning reduced traction at the primary drive wheels is a factor.
It IS rear biased when you punch it. Your words are a little confused, maybe you mean it's still a fwd platform which is true. It really does a great job of handling in a fun way. Punch the gas and it drives out of the corner in a satisfying way. It can slightly overdrive the rear in certain conditions, it isn't just a "when the front slips" type of system.
@@RChero1010Correct, it is rear biased when you punch it and the front wheels have experienced some degree of slip meaning torque loss. Overdriving the rear wheels does necessarily increase torque without considering traction. I understand that Acura’s system is always sending power to all four wheels to some degree and also incorporates torque vectoring for cornering. Perhaps I was being technical for the intentions of this video. I don’t believe my words are confusing if it’s understood exactly what torque is. Without going down that rabbit hole, I will agree that Acura has developed a very competent awd system.
@@RChero1010 to me when I test drove it the car felt too clunky, might be claimed as rear bias but does not feel like it at all. Test drive a G70 and that thing slides and has a drifty feel when you punch it and it is AWD. The type s does not feel like that at all, feels too heavy and boring.
After 2 years in my TLX, I can say the infotainment is not an issue. A few weeks of ownership (and CarPlay) makes all the difference. You get used to it quickly, that said, without CarPlay it’s ridiculous.
I like Acura. I have a 2023 Integra A Spec trim with the CVT and it's a terrific car. Fantastic driving dynamics and handling and fuel efficient to boot.
you should be able to set the drive mode to have more control of the manual paddle shifting. My ford fusion will shift its self up outa gear in normal mode, but if I hit the "S" button on my shifter putting the car in sport mode, it remains in the gear you selected.
Holy shxt! It sounds absolutely incredible. And those shifts are dual clutch fast… In the past I’ve owned 2 CL Type-S coupes and loved them and especially loved the sound the 3.2 made when vtec kicked in (yo). Now I can look forward to buying one of these beauties 2nd hand. As cool as the new Integra Type S is… nothing compares to a Honda V6. And unlike the Integra, there isn’t a bad angle… just beautiful. And AWD. Yes please.
Idk how it is in Canada, but this shines in the cpo market vs the bmw. You get this car for 40 to 42k, and it comes with up to 7 years and 100000 miles of bumper to bumper warranty. BMW and any other German just give you an additional year past the original 4 year warranty, any more costs money
Yuri and Jacob are both January babies...! Now I know we related because I'm on the 13th of January!!! Happy birthday Cuz! All jokes aside Dope video I know that the M340i is the king of this department but I can't help but think that there are so many under dogs. This is surely one of them! Fantastic car
Bought the exact one you have in the video 6 weeks ago, but with the 10 spoke 20" wheels. The thing handles crazy good and is able to accelerate through tight turns I definitely did not expect. 2 improvements I would have liked to see: 1) Would have loved 75 to 100 more hp and 2) I feel like it is missing some wow factor in the headlights and taillights. Those 2 things are where BMW excels, and I keep regretting not going that route BUT then I catch those sexy lines in the body and long front end with the sun hitting that urban grey metallic paint and those regrets go out the window.

I owned a 2022 in Tigers Eye. I liked it, but i didn't love it. Packaging is a problem. Its a large car with no room inside. I also had some electrical issues that made ownership after warranty a no-go for me. Happy it happened, glad its gone.

just to clarify, the TLX Type S does indeed have launch control. To engage it put the car in Sport+ mode, put the transmission in S-mode (most reviewers forget this part), and brake boost. Once the turbo gauge is fully red, launch control is ready.

Substantially lighter weight, fully track-focused suspension, perfect weight distribution, RWD, and twin turbo V6 had me go with a CT4-V Blackwing. The funny thing about this Acura, is that everyone is trying to compare a FWD 4cyl Civic with lipstick, to actual sports cars.
This is such a great car…bought a new 2021 IS350. Meh. Drove this in 2021 & “had to have it.” Drove it back home cross country. Such a great car. Moved on since, but still miss it. Just wish the quality and dealer service at low grade Acura could compare to Lexus. It rips. It’s SOOO comfortable. The turbo V6 blips are fun. Not a straight line drag strip car, but so fun to drive in every other condition and refined.
The TLX type s is not rwd Biased. Just because it can send more power to the rear wheels doesn’t make it rwd biased. 90% of the time in normal driving conditions majority of the power is sent to the front wheels.
I said this and multiple Acura fanboys argued me up and down that it’s full time 50/50 awd with rwd bias. It’s literally a tranverse engine on a front wheel drive platform. Acura marketing has fooled a lot of people I guess.
First! Great video guy's!! Second, for the guys in the comment section let's not get too excited about the car. As a current owner of both a TLX type s and an E53 AMG (previous owner of a C63) the TLX doesn't hold a candle to either one of my Mercedes and comparing the sound and exhaust notes of this to a 63 or an M series is just ridiculous. That said, this is a great daily drive and will be super reliable for us for years to come (unlike my Mercedes).
Seems like a great car and I love the looks, just overpriced. I would go M340i every single time. Will be more expensive after adding a few options, but a few thousand here and there really doesn't matter when you're already at the $60k price point. Especially when an M340i is better if every way.
It’s way more due to maintenance. Acuras maintenance is peanuts compared to bmw. BMW maintenance is up marked by a lot just for being a bmw. I’ve experienced both dealerships and bmw tries to charge 2x or even 3x the money for the same kind of job in some cases. And again, it’s not because it’s harder, it’s because it’s bmw and they just want more money from you. I would LEASE the M340i but if I wanted to BUY I would go with the tlx type s.
BMW is for lease and people who can afford to replace cars every 5-7 years. Acuras are more affordable luxury with low maintenance and longevity. 95 Integra LS 154k miles 07 TL-S 110k miles 22 ILX Aspec 28k miles Acuras age beautifully and are fun to drive.
I doubt anyone in the history of the world cross-shopped an Acura and BMW. Acuras are just poser cars; 4cyl, FWD Hondas with lipstick. Nobody in the luxury or sports car takes any Acura seriously.
I own a 2023, and I can say that I am very happy with it. I am a long-time Honda fan, and I can tell you that this doesn't drive like an old integra or civic. It does have a lot to offer when you spend a little time with it and learn what it is good at. It handles extremely well, especially if you are applying power through corners. Understeer is completely neutralized in this setting. The steering is quick and precise. If you are approaching a decreasing radius turn, then it feels a little nose heavy in these situations. The transmission is excellent when left in automatic mode in sport plus. It stays in the right gear and makes great sounds. It is pretty quick too. Obviously, an m340 is faster!! I am impressed with the brakes for Back Road blasts. Track work would overheat them. The seats are excellent. Supportive, comfortable, and grippy. Seat ventilation is a great feature. The stereo is clear and has a nice full sound. It might be a little bass heavy with certain music. I personally love the looks. Wide and low never went out of style. It feels like it is more expensive than it is. All the switches have a quality feel. The engine sounds expensive and refined. There is the promise of low running costs, which can't be underestimated. Cars are depreciating assets, and expensive repairs will affect your long-term term financial position. Now, to be fair, we are still talking about an expensive purchase. If we were all and little smarter and a little more practical, we would drive Camrys!
You always rip on the infotainment, but I've been living with it for 3 years and I do NOT want to go back to a touch screen. Controls are always at my fingertips while my arm is on the armrest, I don't have to brace my hand against the dash to stabilize my fingers as I'm going over a bumpy road, the screen is up higher and in line-of-sight of the road so I feel less distracted while using it, and literally every thing that is annoying to do with the touch pad is solved with voice commands.
Been daily driving the 2021 Acura TLX A-Spec for a few months now and I actually love the infotainment system. My only issue has been very rare instances of CarPlay being slow and well, before the 2024 refresh, there was no Wireless Apple CarPlay or Wireless Android Auto. I plan on eventually trading in a year or two for the Type S (probably the 2024 refresh rather than the 2021). Wish the pre-2024 refresh A-Spec had the visual differentiation with the new exhaust system and the updated front feschas.
I've got a '22 A-Spec, and although I love driving it, I'm also considering the refreshed S (even though I'd surely take a big hit on trade-in). I'd like the dual personality of the suspension and exhaust settings (Comfort with my wife in the car, Sport+ when it's just myself), plus the extra tech updates like the 360 camera, faster infotainment processor, and improved safety sensor suite. The only new feature I'm not completely sold on is the new digital gauges, but I gotta admit that the red-on-silver in my A-Spec is hard to read clearly (and my wife hates it, tbh).
I bought 23 Type S last year after considering the M340i. For me the Acura won on looks, price, and reliability while the BMW won on performance. The Acura is fun enough that the practical factors were the deciding factors. So far, I’ve been really happy with it.
Lol Acura looks like basic traffic. Type in "ayyyman_" and look at his last video comparing his m3 to his buddies m340i that's lowered and has yellow DRLs. That thing looks way more head turning and mean this this car ever would be.
Love my Type S, most people sleep on this car because they think stock performance is permanent. A simple base map to gain damn near 80/80 in the numbers…
Love the FM tuning segment 🤣. I really wanted this car, but this infotainment system alone would anger me every day after spending $60K and feeling like I would have been given at more premium experience at a car available at $40K.
As someone that grew up with stick shifts, I always felt it was stupid that I have to select gear ratios. I know this is sacrilege to track racers but this is not a track car. There are already far too many distractions in modern driving so shifting doesn't need to be one of them. Also, stick shifting in heavy traffic is incredibly frustrating. I have an RDX with a 10 speed auto and its amazing. The electronic shifting also helps with a long lifespan for the transmission.
I really like the TLX Type S, however it’s one if the slowest in its class and it’s about the same price as an M340. If this car was faster it would attract a larger audience.
I had a 2002 TL Type S - $31k sticker and was the top of the pack at that time. Now they are almost $60k and about average comparing to say the Q50 and the M340i. I was thinking about it for about 5 minutes until I saw how much they are and picked up a totally different ride - 2024 Crosstrek.
@@monkeymouse1403 31k in 2002 is 53k today. Now account for the fact that this car is awd, turbo v6, and just blows the older tl out of the water in almost every aspect. You don't think all of that is worth $10k? The type S of today doesn't compare with a type S of 20 years ago, you need to be comparing the base model fwd. Those two can compete, and are roughly the same price when adjusted for inflation, the newer TLX is probably even cheaper.
@@Kburd-wr6dq Cars of all types have been getting faster the past 20 years, while keeping pace with inflation. Sure it blows away the old one in everything except MPG, but that is completely expected. But the old TL-S was a much better car than the competition, we can't say the same for the new one. 355hp out of a "performance" 3.0L turbo is a lot lame - BMW is rated at 380hp and the Q50 is 400hp in the highest trim.
@@monkeymouse1403 S4/330xi both beat the TL in a 0-60 and come in awd. Same goes with the Q60/m340xi, they are faster, but they are also more expensive.
Yeah, the only noise suppressing the type S got was thicker carper…. All the rest of the changes went to the lower trims….. Acura wanted Type S owners to hear the engine roar….
I built one with the grey and heated steering and with destination it’s right at 60k usd I built an m340i with all the options I would in the tlx and that came out to 63k usd so 3k more for a beast of a car brand new the Acura is overpriced so I’ll wait a few years and pick one up for 50k because I see used 2023 tlx type s with 3k miles selling for 50k Iguess they’re not as desirable as Acura hoped.
Love my TLX! Sure, other brands might get more recognition, but I want to keep my car for longer than 3 years without breaking down, so I’m happy with this haha.
I like how the TLX looks. It seems like Acura made a few tweaks to the driving dynamics for this year. However, that stupid infotainment system, the transmission logic (auto upshift in manual), somewhat cramped interior (felt smaller than my 07 TL Type-S) and high price in Canada meant it didn't feel like a full on successor to my car. It also felt like it had less power than advertised. If I hadn't driven a Stinger GT (which ended up in ny driveway instead) before this, I just might have accepted it.
Yeah, I'm really turned off by the shifting business, and the infotainment is atrocious. The boys don't do a box test anymore, so thanks for your thoughts on interior space. I think you probably won with the Stinger. It's hard to think of Acura as an enthusiast brand. I mean I know they make some decent cars at the top end of their range, but their whole product lineup (sans Integra) just seem... bland. Fairly good at most things, best at absolutely nothing.
A lot of people seem to dislike this car for valid reasons but I really like this one. They fixed the small things I didn't like about the '23. My current lease is up in 2 years and this will be on my test drive list. Someone get a Rolex date just for their birthday?? Kidding, very nice. Great review. Happy birthday.
The touchpad is ergonomically perfect for driving. I have the 2023MDX and I find it safe using the system, changing channels and adjusting other stuff than my touchscreen on my other vehicle. You guys are really missing how great the touchpad system is for while driving. The ONLY reason why Acura should have made it dual function is for business economics. If it had dual i would use the touchpad 80% of the time. It is just a safer way of driv8ng.
I will be so glad to see the RL (legend) back again, with something crazier than typeS or typeR, with a 450hp naturally aspirated, SH-AWD, all wheel steering and all comfort that all RLs have
@@smoke726It’s criminally overrated. It’s just a Civic. It’s a FWD, 4cyl Japanese econobox, with trim bits that vainly attempt to make it appear to compete with the likes of Cadillac, BMW, and Audi, but it’s not even on the same planet. Reminds me of a high schooler’s car……. Looks fast and fun, but for insurance reasons, it’s slow and lackluster. We used to call them, “ricers,” back in the day.
Save a little more and get the M340ix (or M240i if you don't need back seats). Dominates this boat in every aspect, even mpg. Wish Acura made something like my 2,800lb RSX-S still...
Gorgeous (especially in Tiger Eye Pearl/Orchid spec) but for the price point and desired cachet, it should have slightly more output of 400hp. “Regular models” like G70/G80 @ 365/375, M340i @ 382, etc. hit higher numbers, IS500 @ 472, and some smaller segment models hit ~355 or exceed it. - Albeit that Honda/Acura have always been conservative, their “higher output” models should at least exceed other brands’ regular models imo.

It's amazing how much damage SamCarLegiom did to this car with his dumb drag races. Now car quality, performance, value, reliability all boiled down to (for some) who wins in a straight line.
@chaseo4557 i traded in my CT4V for a $10,000 loss to buy the Type S. Both are the same price new. The Type S and the CT4v aren't even in the same league in terms of build quality, refinement, features, comfort and yes, even performance. They only compete on price. The Type S fully loaded is the same price as the m330i xDrive fully loaded. It's $10,000 cheaper than comparably equipped m340i xDrive and the CT5V (non BW). Those who say the Type S is overpriced really aren't in this market and have no clue. And no, i would never buy a trash Kia/Hyundai product ever again, nor would I consider a mercedes 4 banger for $70,000+.
@@cultofmodernism8477You have to understand a couple of things. There’s a reason you can get a Type S for the same price as a fully loaded 330i. Acura is not BMW. They do not command the same prices BMW can. They’re a value brand along with Genesis. You get a lot for your money, but you don’t get the best. The M340i is the undisputed king of this segment. To some the $10k premium is not worth it. To many it is.
this car is great. the only thing that makes this a bad buy is that the m340i exists. bmws b58 is very reliable and much more powerful than the acura v6. interior is better. chassis dynamics. its better in every way.
I would buy one of these tomorrow but the back seats are so small. I'm currently looking for a replacement for my 4G TL SH-AWD 6MT. I recently had a TLX for some warranty work being done on my car, and my small kids complained how small the backseat is. The oldest couldn't even buckle a standard booster seat without tipping it and sliding it over to accommodate how narrow the seat was. If you look at the rear seat dimensions, the rear seat leg room is smaller than the smaller Integra... how does that happen? They made a longer car but somehow boffed the interior dimensions... sad.
Id be getting the M340i over this any day of the week. Hell id even get the 330i and throw JB+ on it and STILL be faster than the TLX for $15,000 less. Acura is simply not competitive in this segment.
This is probably my favorite sedan on the road right now. I don't see many of them, but every time I do encounter one, it brings me one step closer to throwing my financial sense out the door and buying one of these. Sure, it's not the fastest car out there but it's beautiful. The only potential deal-breaker is the terrible touchpad to control the terribly designed infotainment system.

I was fortunate enough to pick one up when they were first introduced in 2021. The build quality far exceeded my expectations; I have yet to experience any squeaks or rattles at 25k miles.
Disagree. That crown goes to the G70
G70 is always in the back of my mind as a good buy. Do you regret the trunk or rear seat space? Thats my main concern considering I have a Civic Hatch
No one ever talks about sedans much anymore but this looks like a great car! V6, adaptive suspension, and SH-AWD ! Oh yeah!
Yeah but maintenance on those is astronomical
And both are a POS long term that won’t last. Also horrific resale value as time goes on. The Acura will go the distance and hold value.
Finally, some love for this car. Great video.

Before I bought my 2023 Kia Stinger GT2 I was really contemplating a TLX Type S.
Which was cheaper?
Same, but I also considered M340i and S5 Sportback. Went with a Stinger because it was more affordable for me and $10-20k CDN cheaper than them while still being fully loaded with a hatch, 360 cam, hud, etc. 160,000km on it so far and it’s never left me stranded!
I did the same. The Singer was designed as a rear wheel drive car which handles better than the TLX even if you get AWD in the Stinger like I did. Also for me the TLX is longer and wider than the Stinger which I didn’t need. The Stinger is also faster. Last felt the Stinger was the better value and didn’t need luxury nameplate.
lol, since the release of the Type S, The Stinger has always been cheaper. The G70 which is now the Stinger is also cheaper.@@dnice362

I bought a '23 Type S last March. At the time, I had narrowed my considerations down to it and the G70, and decided I was willing to give up the 360 camera, digital gauges, wireless PhoneClone, etc, for the much better feeling front-end and, in my opinion, vastly superior looks
Then Acura goes and releases a refresh with literally all of those things 😅
(also, maybe there was a quiet refresh between your original review and buying my car, but I've always been able to set the ambient lighting to colors other than red)

I love the looks of the new TLX. Very good package and good car!!! Great video as always!!!
@@bb5242 is the Type S even reliable? We don’t know that yet. New engine, new trans, and Honda/Acura don’t have the best track record for reliability these days. The only car in this segment that is without a doubt reliable is the IS500.

The 4200lbs dry weight killed it
needs at least 400hp to compensate for the weight

just to clarify, the TLX Type S does indeed have launch control. To engage it put the car in Sport+ mode, put the transmission in S-mode (most reviewers forget this part), and brake boost. Once the turbo gauge is fully red, launch control is ready.
This is what we do in every car. If it doesn’t say launch control on the dash then it’s not an official launch control

Catch phrase shout outs!! Great video! Even had the AI voice over and great use of it!
Probably this over the integra Type S but 10k CAD difference.
A smaller size and V8 had me go with an IS500. But this is a good car, granted I don’t think I fully understand it.
Great choice. V8 is life
Substantially lighter weight, fully track-focused suspension, perfect weight distribution, RWD, and twin turbo V6 had me go with a CT4-V Blackwing.
Especially when an M340i is better if every way.
thats CAD bud, thats way cheaper than a M340i
It’s way more due to maintenance.
Got a '22 M340i with 15k km for $54k Canadian. In no dimension would I pay 10k to 'upgrade' to this even if its brand new
BMW is for lease and people who can afford to replace cars every 5-7 years. Acuras are more affordable luxury with low maintenance and longevity.
95 Integra LS 154k miles
07 TL-S 110k miles
22 ILX Aspec 28k miles
Acuras age beautifully and are fun to drive.
Two things I always find hilarious about these cars tests
1. They all only have Apple Car play
2. Satellite radio! 😊
It was more fun when 1 of them had an android phone and they used to do the carplay vs Android auto test

I bought 23 Type S last year after considering the M340i. For me the Acura won on looks, price, and reliability while the BMW won on performance. The Acura is fun enough that the practical factors were the deciding factors. So far, I’ve been really happy with it.
This doesn't hold a candle to an m340i . Look up "ayyyman_" his last vid shows a yellow DRL m340i . If u think this car looks better 💀

Love my Type S, most people sleep on this car because they think stock performance is permanent. A simple base map to gain damn near 80/80 in the numbers…
What map are you using? My understanding is that not all cars can be tuned for some reason.
Love the FM tuning segment 🤣. I really wanted this car, but this infotainment system alone would anger me every day after spending $60K and feeling like I would have been given at more premium experience at a car available at $40K.
It's not that bad
@@bb5242 "It's not that bad" is not an acceptable response for a key function of a $60K vehicle.
The m340i with similar options that come standard with tlx is quite a bit more expensive
The m340 doesnt look as good or handle better so its a tradeoff also less reliable too
Yeah if this thing has 400hp to compensate for that weight I'd consider it. Just too slow for me compared to the competitors.

I love how concise but fun your reviews are.
Acura's DCT is one of the greatest ever made. I had a 2018 ILX with the 8-speed and it was an amazing-driving car.
The ILX got bashed, too, but the 1.5L Integra is a turd because of that engine.
I really do wish they continued using that transmission; it was a peach.
Now account for inflation

This car is the bee's knees for me
My understanding is the noise suppression was only on the A-Spec not Type S.
Probably why it didn’t seem to make any difference
Happy belated birthday Jakub! 🎉
keep it underrated.... i dont want insane dealer markups :(
Love my TLX!
I drive an RDX and agree 10000%, LOVE the touchpad vs leaning forward and using a touchscreen. So much safer and more intuitive while driving.
I will be so glad to see the RL (legend) back again, with something crazier than typeS or typeR, with a 450hp naturally aspirated, SH-AWD, all wheel steering and all comfort that all RLs have

This car sucks

They made a longer car but somehow boffed the interior dimensions... sad.
There is a new Integra Type S on my street. I can't stop looking at it. I think the TLX would be a better fit for me though.
Both has the same dealership price ?
@@orland3376 no idea. The Integra is probably harder to get so it could drive up the price. I assume the spec TLX Type S is more on paper.

I don't see many of them, but every time I do encounter one, it brings me one step closer to throwing my financial sense out the door and buying one of these.
