Honestly guys, I´m loving all these Canberra episodes.Another amazing building and counting... Yes, travelling a lot to see just a building (even if it´s a car park) is something that we all architects do haha
So many well learned Kahn´s lessons in this building too. I love the language of the structures and the subtle details on each piece of the building. Awesome section btw

I love this car park. I've ridden my bike through it many times and the steel shapes make it feel futuristic. Although, they also nearly knock your head off if you aren't careful. Thanks for the view from an architectural viewpoint.

Ah! I grew up in Canberra went to school next to the AIA Hq - have always loved that strange left over space next to the high court (I was going to be my secrete architecture office) I fell in love with architecture at the AIA talks in the old NGA auditorim (sadly no more). The carpark was my own little secrete. Before the extension everyone used to park in a pay for parking gravel carpark and then up a weird tiny spiral back service stair to the concourse. But not me no one parked in the secrete carpark - which was free - always had spots to park and delivered you to the actual entry - the grand staircase - it was my secrete geeky architectural delight 😆 I love that you guys appreciate all the things that I thought only I loved! (You missed the members Cafe at the NGA though - you ll have to go back) I also notice that you missed the national museum 😉 💁‍♀️

That raised bridge was actually supposed to be extended all the way across to the national library to create a grand avenue. But like so much in Canberra it just kinda ran out of steam. Also, you didn't mention that the NGA was actually built back-to-front. What is now the rear entrance was supposed to be the front and the they turned the building around!

I love the idea of spaces and buildings that are normally very functional and boring being designed in really clever and considered ways. Living in London, there's loads of examples of the Victorians doing this with places like sewage works, train stations, even things as simple as fences and lamp posts. It would be cool to see you do more videos of "boring architecture" like this.

Young architectural designer here - came across this channel while digging for worthwhile architecture videos on TH-cam (after wading through a lot of clickybait-y/lifestyle videos), and am absolutely loving both the video content as well as the specific work from Andrew's firm. It is inspiring to see people still genuinely *care* about architecture, as nowadays design often seems to fall by the wayside in favor of pure capitalistic values.

That is a great analogy of value engineering. But garages are good examples of multiple modes of circulation in one confined space. Lots of bad examples and few great ones.

This video gives substance to the adage that architects only architect to impress other architects. That said, I also get excited about little things in our built environments that few other people appreciate, so I can totally relate.

if value management is a synonym for value engineering which is the term i’m familiar with, then you are ‘looking a gift horse in the mouth’ probably because what you think of as the ‘beating heart of your project’ is not valuable enough to be protected by everyone at all cost, probably because it’s about what it is rather than what it does, what it enables.
ie, not the value it has but the value it produces.
value meaning any or all of utility/use value, exchange value, economic value, price value, sign & symbol value, and total experiential value.
