Still the only GTA game to ever implement the respect system and I feel Rockstar has dropped the ball with this. Could you imagine if you had a GTA V type game with it's cinematic stories and vibrant world, but instead of having one linear main story, you'd have multiple possible stories depending on which outfit you chose to work for; like, one preprogrammed story for you climbing to the top of the mafia, one where you become a triad boss, one where you are with a biker gang, etc. If you work for one criminal organization, another would close it's opportuinities to you and even attack you on sight. And they could even have implement choices where you join no one and where you instead can chose to become a highly paid assassin, a freelancer... or even undercover operative for the cops. So much potential was lost when nobody chose to look back and realize how much freedom there was in GTA 2, if a very simplistic kind.
what about respect in GTA San Andreas?
@@NixDarkLord that thing didn't feel real to me. As far as I recall, there was now tangible way of keeping track of it, but more importantly, there was still only the one group you were locked to, Grove Street, which made it very linear and bland. And did gaining or losing respect really make that much difference in that game? I remember there was something like colored territories on the map, but it wasn't executed very well and as far as I know it only ever pertained to the blocks of Los Santos, with San Fiero and Las Venturas being left in the dust.
What? I played through GTA2 on my PS1 but I was like 11 at the time... And I know nothing about non-linear story

To be honest I always thought about Claude to be some sort of agent. Because one of the possibilities in GTA2 as I remember, after working for everyone of the 3 sides on each 3 city parts, you could fight their bosses all at once. Like Just Cause, he was just in to infiltrate against each other till destruction.

Back in the day you didn't need any fancy graphics, a little introduction like this and you had the fuel needed to imagine whatever you wanted. When I think of GTA 2 and the way I saw this game as a child, I think of it as this intro, I played like everything was a movie with so little pixels... just magic, this game will always be one of my special gems.
You feel old like a dinosaur when you see other gamers saying they were kids back when GTA2 was the shit.
I mean still, after all these years. The game feels the same. Maybe even better. All the memories of those times and GTA 1 and 2 are so much fun. I remember back on the day spending like 200h on the game. Partly because I did not understand english back then and I just played. Today the game is easy, but the fun never left from the game
I played it with my 7-8 years old. The first one I played with 6 or less. And till today I still feel the magic that I felt playing them as a colorful kid.
My first game was san andreas and I say rockstar knows how to make a game of that time, surely gta 1 2 3 were not ahead but still they were great for their time and today's kids should respect that

Anyway, most humour on GTA is often childish and filled with immature spoofs, especially in GTA5. Not necessary bad thing but I would love to see more serious tone and atmosphere in future GTA title. GTA4 was perfect balance between serious, interesting storyline and immature humour.

This intro is what made this game amazing and immersive. Rockstar really psycho'd us into thinking we are really playing that guy in the intro. And all of this happened when we were just a kid not knowing anything about violence.
Why couldn't they bring back a Claude Speed based on the actor from the intro, have him be one of Trevor's associates or his junky neighbor or why not a heist member.

i remember playing this game on ps1 as a kid when it first came out and honestly when we used to look at this same intro and see that E39 appearance it was mine blown 🤯 for us kids & adults 😂 back then this car was a legit star ⭐️ everyone would stare at the new body style of the 5 series rolling down the street it was less than 2 year old car that time . very nice childhood memories ❤️

@@heyhocodyo97 it's more than that, Claude in GTA 2 just looks different from 3D arts (he only looks similar in this movie) and R* made a statement long time ago about universes in which characters, that appeared physically, for example, in 2D universe - cannot appear in another universe, like 3D or HD. Lazlo didn't appeared physically in GTA 3 through VCS, so he is a different case. Also GTA 2 already is more wacky than GTA 3 with cyberpunk setting and Elvis gang, I don't think that R* even intended to connect those games, since they are too much different in terms of style and other things. I mean, even this movie is different compare to GTA 2.

Theory: Everything in the intro happens before Claude is frozen. According to the GTA wiki, his backstory is that he is recently released from prison and cryogenic sleep in a crazy dystopian future.

Ahh I'll never forget playing this on my dad's PS1. Loved the intro!
I was too young to understand English ( I understand much better than write) so I tought gta 2 had no story at all and I was just roaming around and trying to have much more police head bottom the screen ( there wasn’t stars to sign the police level but little talking police head) and when GTA 3 went out I tought claude was the guy in this intro and I still imagine Claude as him even on definitive edition that is not complete as a game, I think they should do much more, is a good game cause is GTA 3D and graphic is good I love the art style and I hope they will fix some face cause some are ridiculous.

I don't think that it's the same Claude from GTA 3 because according to R* Claude is about 28 yo in GTA 2 and if that is Claude from GTA 3, that would make him 10-15 yo in GTA 3!

This is one of the games that helped pave the way for what gaming is now. Hopefully 6 breaks boundaries as well. 3 was revolutionary, 4 was groundbreaking on graphics and physics.

There has never been a bigger upgrade in gaming than the transition from gta 2 to GTA 3. This is like the 1999 equivalent of today's mobile games that show you crazy gameplay and cut scenes in ads but the actual game is really nothing like it.
