The Classic Vibe line are very under-rated instruments.
    This series is awesome.

Well, I had to hear both from my monitors and my audio technica ATH40 and I found this:
    - The fender seems to have more subs and rounded overall tone
    - CV has a more "agressive tone" because of the mids, even it sounds with more character than the fender on the neck pickup.
I will choose the CV since I can easily get that extra fatness of the fender with eq, a comp, a preamp or a pedal. Fender is still a good one BUT it sounds nothing like how a SERIOUS j bass should sound like a real 60's or a custom shop made.

American Std. Is definitely better, but these Squiers have come a long way. There are many of them that sound great.

Classic Vibe is very very underrated...I bought one, used, for 350 dollars, replaced the pups with Barolini Axis Jazz and replaced the bridge with a Babiz and the machine tuners with hipshot lolipops...I know I know, I have more in parts than the whole thing new...however the neck is slimmer than my American Jazz and quite frankly I am gigging more with my modded vibe.

It's okay, I've already modded 2 sonic series broncos with hipshot bridges and tuners, bone nuts, name brand pickups and 3-ply pickguards lol

To my ears, they sound very similar on the bridge pickup. There's a pretty big difference in the neck pickup though. The American JB sounds a bit clearer and smoother, while the CV isn't quite as clear, but it doesn't sound bad -- just has a bit more of an aggressive tone. Some tone heads may disagree, but if these two basses had the same pickups in them, the difference in sound would be negligible for most purposes. The more important thing to me is how an instrument feels. If the neck feels great, and the bass has that special something that makes you feel confident when you play it, you're going to sound your best. If the instrument feels great and you love playing on it, most of its tone can be changed to your liking with different pickups, a different style of bridge, different strings, or different amp/EQ settings. No doubt you can sound great on either of these basses. If I was going to play something that really required a "smooth" sound though, I'd either use the American JB, or either play the CV on the bridge pickup only, or change out the neck pickup.

To add, I've been thinking about selling my 2002 Fender American Standard Jazz Bass because I have a CV 70's Jazz Bass that feels and sounds great as well. I like them almost equally, but I'm having a hard time getting over the perception that the more expensive instrument is better. But I'm not a bass player by trade, and really can't justify having 2 Jazz basses when I can use that money for something else. So I'm leaning towards selling the more expensive one, even though I love it and it's hard to let it go lol. I also have 2 CV Jazzmasers, a CV Mustang, a CV Telecaster, and a CV Strat, and they all sound and play fantastic. I actually like the CV Squiers better than most MIM Fenders, and when you consider the price difference, it's a no-brainer.

I have a 69 Fender Precision w/Jazz Neck at the time custom color, Ocean Turqoise, block inlay on rosewood neck/bought at the music store I worked for in 1969. 2024 and Fender Custom Shop says "Sorry we won't touch it because you don't have a receipt"; although I do have owners manual with name of "E Paxton", only Custom Shop in Colorado is HB Woodsong, Boulder. I thought Fender had control of their channel. I believe Woodsong is telling Fender that no receipt, no work. Moving away from Fender. If they would do this to a Senior, think what they'll do to YOU. Buyer Beware.

I have a 2014 China made CV 60's jazz. Sold my Fender US standard made in USA jazz and build in Apollo pickups Amsterdam in the CV and changed the pots for CTS. It had a heavy bridge from the start and standard tuners that where fine. Now it's way better that my Fender ever was. Great buy when you buy a bass to play with and not as an investment.

To my ears, the fender seems generally clearer (definitionwise) and more balanced....the squier feels like it has a tick more of bass and gain. These top notch squiers really can do everything these days, as they have better QC and decent hardware, so you are good with either of them. Both can hold gigs and records beautifully if well maintained

That neck pickup is just spot on what you want to sound like on a record, no questions asked, the cv could do worse for the money and i aim for it, but there's no denying how authoritative the american is.

  • @HiImSeanIPlayBass
    @HiImSeanIPlayBass ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The American is definitely better.
The CV is higher output, thus, some people are gonna THINK it’s better, when it’s actually just louder.
Again though, like i comment on every A vs B instrument video I watch, you buy a higher end instrument for the value of its components, the quality of its sound, and the quality of workmanship that was put into its construction.
That American standard was assembled and quality tested in a way more stringent workshop environment than the CV which was probably put together in 45 minutes in a factory in china or Korea.
You could probably gig the American for 20 years without a component going bad and only needing basic preventive maintenance.
The CV will give you about 5 good years of hard gigging and use before stuff starts to wear out or stop functioning altogether.

You cannot compare a 60 model to a standard, the 60 model has a vintage tone so is different, you could compare that squier with a jazz bass from 60's
