    This video would've been so much better without the background music.
    Nice explanation though.

    We need to eliminate one motor on our robot. We need to try and use one motor for our arm but are concerned about not having enough torque.Do you have any suggestions?

    • @Scidkelly
      @Scidkelly  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, You have two options if you need to remove a motor from your arm. The first option is to add rubber bands or surgical tubing to your design which will help lift the arm. This will keep the speed of the arm the same. However, if you are trying to use the arm in the opposite direction such as putting a down pressure on something or lifting the robot off the ground the rubber bands or surgical tubing will work against you. The second option is to use a gear ratio which is lower than the gear ratio you're using currently. This will help your motors hold and lift your arm up, however it will slow down the speed of the arm. please see:

    Large gear to small gear connected by chain give more ratio,but y bikes consider small to large!?

    Sooo can I be stupid and put a 60 tooth gear with a 12 tooth gear that is above another 60 tooth gear that rotates another 12 tooth gear giving 1/25 torque but 25x speed?

    The only problem is this would not work for a bike you don't have a derailleur attached which is critical due to the tension it applies vs chain length. Most road bikes sold have the wrong chain length. You don't measure the chain by big ring vs big sprocket that is silly because you have removed the rear derailleur from the equation thus your length is now wrong. The 2 links added for chain is to reach the first jockey wheel, but you have not added the length for the bottom jockey wheel which is critical for chain slack. Uploading a video demonstrating this. Pro time trial bikes use bigger jockey wheels thus requiring a longer chain due to : size of jockey wheels! . I would say over 90% of road bikes with 7 speed freewheels (10 speed and 11 speed bikes are not affected by this) have a chain that is incorrectly measured. You still size the chain by big ring vs big sprocket, but you add the links that the jockey wheels take up so: 2 pin links to reach the top jockey wheel, 3 pin links to go around that jockey wheel, now add the links to go around the bottom jockey wheel (some bottom jockey wheels are bigger) so 4 pin links for a big jockey wheel you are now at 9 pin counts that you did not have before. These extra 9 pins is the secret to have proper chain slack, smooth shifting, smooth big ring on big sprocket combos. This procedure is critical for 7 x 3 road bikes ( 21 speed).

    Good video but here you given 1:4 ratio and you're taken 10 teeth on driver and 40 teeth on driven why you didn't take 4 teeth on driver and 16teeth on driven

    • @DavidKellySci
      @DavidKellySci 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      4 teeth on the driver would bind the chain and The VEX Robotics system which I used the sprockets from only has certain standard sprocket sizes. Hope this helps.
