Pelican Mission 100 Sit-in Kayak Fishing Modifications

- In this episode I show you how I turn my Pelican Mission 100 sit-in kayak into an absolute fishing machine! I show you my entire kayak fishing setup, what the modifications you could do and how to do them. I also explain things to look out for during the modification, tips and tricks that I discovered along the way.

@@LuRanOutdoors That's a nice pike :) BTW, I saw a Pelican Argo 100X in a local store priced the same as the MIssion 100... It already has two integrated rod holders, and seams to be fishing-oriented by design. Any thoughts? I'm starting to regret my Mission 100 purchase and the Argoo 100X appears to be a better choice for fishing... am I missing something? Your opinion would be appreciated Lu... thanks mate!
@David Berge Hey David, I am not sure if you are from Canada, but in Canada the costco in store price for the mission 100 is very hard to beat for what you get. The argo 100xr that I can find is listed at 870 dollar cad, which is much more than the mission 100 at Costco, and the argo that I saw don't have rod holders either. And rod holders are definitely not a deal breaker as they are about 30 dollars for two. If the price is similar, I don't think you can go wrong with picking either one. Hope that gives you a better idea. Cheers.
That fishfinder is absolutely killer dude, I've been trying to think of some uses for extra plano boxes I've got for my kayak but I was just thinking storage or a livewell. Thats ingenious though...

I like this Kayak! I will defiantly be looking at adding this Kayak to use on my fishing TH-cam channel YakAngling for the long pulls in to private lakes and look into these mods as well. Great Video

Should have used caulk or waterproof silicone under the rod holders
Yeah you're probably right. But they are holding up fairly good so far. I was trying to get it done as easy and cheap as possible.
@@LuRanOutdoorsi guess no caulk or silicone either for the fishfinder build right? You're aware you're out on the water. If you get a fish finder and so on caulk is not too much of a stretch to get either..
@tuobahc the fishfinder just suction cup to the outside of the kayak. I made it portable so I can use it on different boats. Haven't had any water go inside the kayak from the rod holders honestly. I mean, the cockpit is so open, I didn't see a point of siliconing a tiny rod holder...

May I ask which model of Garmin fish finder?
This is the Garmin striker 4. Good for both open water and ice fishing.
How can you haul gear for 5 days in Wells Gray? Maybe need a pack kayak like a packhorse, or pull a waterproof drum behind or can you fit everything in one kayak. A 5 day trip through Wells Gray could result in a series of spectacular videos.
I might need a bigger kayak or canoe for that adventure.

i made a similar fishfinder set up, except i just used a clampable plastic food container from the dollar store.
haha nice!!! I used one of those at first too, but it broke quickly. So I went with the ammo case instead. Haha.

Thanks very much Dana!!! I got my transducer suction cup from the Garmin striker 4 ice fishing bundle that I got. However, I believe you can also order it from the Garmin website. I think it is approximately 20 to 30 dollars Canadian and comes with free shipping.

Can the seat fold down? Mine is annoying to turn upside down bc i cant figure it out
Great question, you can tighten the straps all the way and it should fold down I thought. I can't remember 100 percent tho.
One of the mesh deck covers (triangular net) attachment points got pulled off would you happen to know how to replace it? I have a Mission 100x but it's basically the same netting.
I think you can just buy a replacement screw with a hook from the hardware store and screw it in the same spot. Or near that spot if the hole is too big for the screw.
Can you maybe make like an tutorial for the ammo box fish finder?
Hi there, thanks for your comment! It was pretty easy to make, maybe I'll include the explanation of how to make it in one of my kayak videos this coming summer if I remember. Hi William, this kayak is the perfect kayak for beginners. Very easy to paddle and very stable for an entry level priced kayak. I also did a video of review and test of this kayak before this video that you can take a look if you are interested!

LuRan... Would you specify the size screws and such you used for the rod holder. Looking at doing similar mods to my Mission 100. TIA!
Hey Brian, I have no idea what size of screws it was, but it came in the rod holder kit. However, if I were to guess, I would use size 8 head and 1 inch stainless screw. As long the screw fits the rod holder I don't see too big of an issue, but make sure to use stainless steel screws to prevent rust.

I had a question about the rod holder placement, on other Kayaks I see the rod holders pointed outward instead of slanted inwards. Do the rod holders like that work well for you?
Hi Ethan, my rod point outwards too when they are in the holder.

@@LuRanOutdoors Ok yeah, I installed them today the same way you did. I also mounted the front rod holder sideways like you did but my rod holder goes in facing the wrong way and won’t rotate. Did I mount it in wrong?

Where did u get the 2 back rod holders from
I got mine from Amazon. I searched "kayak rod holder flush mount". There are various options to choose from, I picked one with decent reviews.
I can personally confirm that it's a fishing machine haha.

Hi Anthony, thats a great question. Unfortunately I am not familiar with canopies and not sure which one would be compatible with this Pelican kayak. I wonder if Pelican makes them? 🤔
