Thanks, everyone, for watching this video. You can see part 1 here: th-cam.com/video/vJuPKXFTSWc/w-d-xo.html Also, a freakishly high amount of people are asking about my Bum Bag, so I thought it best to capitalise and make my first million from this Affiliate Link: geni.us/Seral7 and whilst I am pushing my luck, here is a link to my 2022 Photography Calendar, still available: thomasheaton.co.uk/product/2022-calendar/
Most people don't appreciate enough the fact that every shot that Heaton shows up walking far away, he had to set the camera, walk, and then go back to get the gear.
Same here, but yeah the lens just wanted to cuddle after being left behind for looking after the "lost" tripod. Taking strength of gear serious, in the bumbag I couldn't see any separation or even a cloth between the lens or the body.. But it seems all of the gear survived the trip and after all the marks on the gear are memories of the trip. :-)
Even if the first 5 minutes you hit a point that I often swear by. Bad boots can make a hike all that worse if you dont have the correct footware. Bumbags are always helpful Thomas. (Fanny pack lol we used to call it that as kids but it seemed to have stuck with so many including myself. Still useful though lol Absolutely stunning location. Massivly jealous I must say. Omg I bet that water was freezing but refeshing! The bad step looks a bit sketchy in places. Haha We've all tried to take short cuts before and ended up in the middle of a bog or two lol. That old house shot was stunning! Omg Ive done the exact same thing before and left my tripod behind and I had a 1.5km walk back to get it. Never will I make that same mistake twice. Really nice pace to this video. I need to learn slow down in my videos a bit. Great video Thomas. Thank you for sharing!
First, this is why I still watch this channel after all these years: outdoor adventure and exploration. Second, the images are usually a treat and this crop was especially. Highly enjoyable for all concerned and thanks also to Murray for partnering in the adventure!
I thought at first when you were using the pink spongy towel you were going to end up with a pink rinse lol. Seriously though Thomas this was an outstanding mini-series and Murray, summed it well at the end and that is you delivered an array of stunning images that weren't Skye's honeypot images. You and Murray owned this adventure from the start and that to me is why this is a stand out piece of work. Well done to the both of you 👏 👏
Thomas & Murray .... What a pretty fantastic duo to say the least. Great to see the Two together on an adventure. Brilliant just brilliant. Thks lads ☘️
Love bum bags! I first used one in the Pyrenees in 1980. I was staying in an hotel and the bum bag held waterproofs and food, all I needed each day. So much easier to carry and much more comfortable than a rucksack in hot weather. Of course I wasn't carrying 2 pro cameras and lenses, just an OM2 and a single zoom round my neck... Bur I've been using bum bags ever since.
The pine trees shot is absolutely amazing! Goes to show that most of the times the most important thing in landscape photography is to be there! Thanks for sharing!
We’ve just spent the last icy cold morning of our Christmas vacation lying in bed with warm Espressos watching both your Isle of Skye videos. What a great journey. We enjoyed it very immensely. It has given us a great impetus to also document the Southern Gulf Islands of British Columbia, Canada when we retire there in the next couple of years.
Absolutely the best ‘landscape photography video’ I’ve seen. Have you seen the video by mountain biker Danny Macaskill called ‘The Ridge’ shot on Skye ? I’m sure you’d like it with the scenery and music Thomas!
Wow so enjoyed your trip Thomas, and Murray along with you too, l love his videos. Yep l wear a bumbag too, as well as a rucksack, so handy. It's going to be hard to better that adventure, maybe a trip to St Kilda ? 🙂 Thank you for all the lovely photography and info. Take care Alioban x
Tom, I'm always amazed at how you can pull a nice image out of nothing. The trees image at 26:07 is a perfect example. That's why I enjoy your videos so much. It makes me think, "if he can do it, I can do it". I just need to get out there and try.
So many photo's in this that are spectacular. The pine trees and the earlier mountain shots as you were returning from your tripod journey. Just incredible.
What more can one say about Thomas Heaton.....this is one of the most authentic landscape photography channels on youtube. Thomas and Adam Gibbs are the very best!!!!
Just for reference, your "not much in the way of views" five mile walk is gorgeous and definitely head and shoulders above ANYTHING within 300 - 500 miles of where I live (deep south USA)! 🙂
Tom....thank you for sharing your wit and adventures with the world. You are a grand inspiration for all who have followed you. Your storytelling is mesmerizing as time seems to stand still while you sew your words into a humorous and visual tale. While the last several months have been a tough go for the world you have been definitely given hope to all and made do with what you had. As an old story goes, "you have made a silk purse out of a sow's ear". May God bless you in your travels.
You are my absolute favorite photographer on YT and videos like these are why. Your style, lack of bravado or attempted drama, and of course your amazing photography, make your videos an absolute joy to watch. Keep doing what you're doing sir!
Quality video again, fit for mainstream channels. You should approach the BBC. It’s about time we had a dedicated 30 minute series of episodes which are photography based, there are arguable too many walking series which lack a little purpose.
That house used to be a mountain bothy offering free overnight stays for hikers, slept there numerous times before some years back the roof was damaged in a storm and the owner boarded it up and retired it. The army built another bothy nearby but it's not a patch on the old one.
I've really enjoyed watching you hike across Skye, and seeing your pix, but the Bad Step? I'd be turning back and heading home 😲 Just watching you do it make me shiver.
Epic ! I spent a lot of time scuba diving Skye in the late 70's, and getting into all sorts of trouble with the weather, but the memories are still solid of such a brilliant place. Thanks for bringing back the memories !!!
I tell myself to slow down and slow down, but some of my best memories are the ones where I am chasing some last bit of light in the mountains. Glad you found some on your trek Thomas and glad you brought us along.
Needed something to watch whilst I was taking a soak in the bath and it did not disappoint. Thoroughly enjoyed the video, probably the best video I’ve seen on TH-cam in a while.
Loved watching both series. Very nice sitting on a couch seeing other people puting themselves through..hell......Skye is not for me. I have been there for fotography and after driving 200-300 miles I took exactly 0 pics. Not one. I am bored by landscapes without those magnificent Sitkaspruces you did find in one of your pics or basically any tree. Just barren all over. Ah well....to each their own and it did not matter for this lovely documentary about two guys taking such an effort. When you ate the burger even I as a vegetarian could only imagine how nice it has to be to find such a place in the middle of nowhere. I would have dug in as well, forget about vegatarianism. Thx again!
Being from Jamaica, I died a little when I saw you jump on the water. Anything under 30° is suicide 😁. Man this is a classic. What a beautiful part of the world. Also, it's funny how much your accent changes the more excited you get. Love this channel man, love your work.
This may be your best video yet - too many superlatives to mention. The hike, the images, the food, the scenery, the commentary. Loved it all, though the Bad Step made me nervous.
Terrific opening. Well written. Well said. Me, I'd still be back at the pub saying something like, "I stayed for the people pictures." Thanks for the journey.
Spectacular. What an awesome adventure. Beautiful scenery. Our midges are called "no-see-ums". Nasty little bugs that get in your hair, in your face, and bit worth ten times their size.
Mr. Heaton- excellent work on these past 2 videos of your Isle of Skye adventure. By the looks of it, this maybe my new favorite place on the "to-see" list. Great images, and you told a good story. Congratulations!
Just completed this. My companion did not wish to do the point of Sleat, I did. He was driving so I had to leave at Broadford. I'll be doing it again. With a bike for the last 20+ miles from Broadford to the Sleat lighthouse - thanks for the suggestion! If you haven't yet done the Cuillin Ridge.... it is AWESOME! I've seen that you have a climbing wall in your garage so you'll breeze it (if you haven't already) Best wishes!
Another stunning video. I lived in America for two years and when i first heard the word 'fanny' on tv i couldn't believe my ears! I love the idea of the bum bag but it's a look that outweighs my hats in the geek dept ;) Function over form me thinks. I will follow Ewen.

Thanks a bunch Tom!!! It was great meeting you and Murray. Love the images from the trip, the backlit tree image was beautiful!
Top man for giving them both a lift.
Most people don't appreciate enough the fact that every shot that Heaton shows up walking far away, he had to set the camera, walk, and then go back to get the gear.
@Thomas and @Scotlands Mountains awesome !
Most anxious bit of this video? Not the Bad Step. No, it was the lens in the grass at 11:30 with no rear cap that was making me sweat.
Me too ....it'll be full o midges now ... I've been to Skye hundreds of times and it still blows me away ...
@@Jacob-64 A nice bit of midge bokeh for artistic effect.
@@RFranks I'm heading to Arasaig on Thursday I hope the wee shites are gone or at least plenty of wind 😅
Why sweat? It's a lens, just a tool. Nothing more.

Taking strength of gear serious, in the bumbag I couldn't see any separation or even a cloth between the lens or the body.. so perfect and beautiful

Really great video! More like this pls! Well Done.
This series might be your 2 best videos ever.
The Best two videos on this channel !!! Love it !!!
Part 1 & part 2, both were fantastic - Thomas Heston at his very best!
In the immortal words of Dr Dre - "n*^%%^^ trying to be the king, but the ace is back". Great film, Thomas!

One word.... Stunning!!!
Sam and Frodo made it alive! Glorious hike, photos and challenges.
This is the content I like best! Long distance hike with wild camping and photography. Please more like this!
what a poetic intro

People binge watch Netflix, etc. but I binge watch Thomas Heaton and his adventures.

Absolutely brilliant. what a trip I'm sure. Hand held photography all the way. That's me. Once the camera is out, just keep snapping.
Murray is great. Very fun seeing you guys together again.
What an epic journey and photography class, thanks Thomas and Murray, the bum bag from Osprey looks great, Isle of Skye is on the bucket list.
If Murray got a bacon sandwich from the van near Torrin, I bet he spoiled it with ketchup!
The pine trees shot is absolutely amazing! Goes to show that most of the times the most important thing in landscape photography is to be there! Thanks for sharing!

Checks in at 6... Boom Thomas has posted.. Winner
I'm a well oiled machine!
Glad to hear. So enjoy my Wednesday night Heaton Videos
That was quite the adventure, well done and excellent images.
That shot of the pine trees might be the most beautiful shot I've seen on your channel!
i think this is the best video of yours i have watched, absolutely brilliant
Sometimes you have to suffer for your art. The images are what makes it worthwhile, plus the experience.
Beautiful scenery and photos. Plus a burger van in the middle of nowhere. Brilliant.
Well done Tom and Murray, fantastic mini series and please visit Scotland again soon, the Midges think you are delicious
Absolutely the best ‘landscape photography video’ I’ve seen.

We’d watched Murray’s take on this trip - delighted to find your perspective equally enthralling. And loving the painterly feel to the images.
That intro👌
I love the pine tree shot. Wow what an adventure you both had. Hard work. I loved both videos.

That's why I love my Mindshift Rotation backpack for hikes.
Phantastisch Reise und ein Geschenk euch zwei ein Stück dieses Weges virtuell zu begleiten. Thanks a lot!
The lone house hand held pano turned out great! Haven't even thought of doing hand-held pano. Well worth the experiment!

Outstanding trip. Should be used by the Scottish Tourist Board. Great advert for Skye. Look forward to seeing all the edited photos.

That extra hike in the swampy grass was worth it just for the image at 26:11. Awesome
