i feel like the storytelling round was pretty unfair because stories in sims are subjective and it was quite awkward watching them try to justify it to the judges love ur videos xx
I think they were surprisingly objective with the critique on the storytelling! In the end they sent home the team that objectively didn't complete the challenge, even though they liked the story itself. But those moments were definitely awkward!
I just watched it! I am bummed that a whole team is gone and that the series is only 4 episodes! I want more time to get to know the contestants and to see their creative process and see more of their final projects. Overall, I felt like the episode felt rushed. I want mooooore! I agree with you that I loved the three items they had to integrate into the challenge.
The pacing was definitely fast! I feel that way about a lot of reality shows with the two-challenge structure. I'm not sure that structure really helps the competition, besides the Sims team wanting to show off more features than they could otherwise in only four episodes. I'm sad about the whole team too! It was probably much easier to get a four-ep run greenlit and the show itself suffers because of it.
I agree with lots of the points you listed. I am a contestant on the show and spend my lunch breaks on watching all these reviews to pass the time. I liked how grounded and nice you critiqued the show. Excited to see the next review. Hugs from Germany!
Watching this when it premiered on tv with my family in the room was so uncomfortable. I basically had to justify how the Sims community is not as problematic as the show edited people to be. Like I feel they tried to make Xmiramira the "angry black woman" and I can't really pinpoint it but I felt on edge with how Jen was edited too. It was weird. Idk maybe I'm reaching 😅Also the time limits were way to low. I take 90 minutes minimum to style a sim😂😂
Yeah I mean the community is really nice but I feel like you are right she was supposed to be the angry black woman, steph0sims was supposed to be the nervous one, plumbella was supposed to be the nice one, the one dude (forget his name) but they tried to make him seem bossy. Like everybody was exaggerated to make it more like reality tv competitions
Honestly I feel like I was just as nervous and I wasnt even there it seemed like the time limit was bad there wasnt enough computers, and they shouldve had 1 day to build, 1 day to create sims, and 1 day to make a story, and let's say they finish their build on day 1 then they could start making sims
I am a bit older but felt I liked it more than I thought. Although I still believe simmers are not competitive. I think they are trying too hard to portray these low key players like “Real Housewives” and have drama. I felt that detracts from the show but of course it’s only my opinion.
I agree! The whole framing of the show originally as esports-like also felt very off, like while these are “pro” players, the sims is not that kind of game!
The challenges this episode was really confusing for me. I didn't understand what the main challenge was. Overall I found it boring. I was suprised that they had to create machinamas, considering most of the assigned storytellers don't do that.
honestly, i liked the show but at the same time i feel like before, i still think they should've used that time and money on things that we've asked for the game for a long time now. also someone mafe a comment on the episode saying that they could've made the first episode like a pilot one making them make a less difficult challenge and without taking everyone home. what i feel like this show doesnt have is a good organization, the simmer barely knew what they were going to do when they first got in, there was no communication between the judges which couldve made it easier for the storytellers to tell the story. oh and i got so annoyed on the time they gave them in the 2nd challenge and how they didnt get more time to create the enemies for the family. idk i feel like it's good but it's just not organized
oh and also i felt like the sim guru was just trying too hard to look like the bad judge you know? cuz i think he only said he fully liked one of the group's project and i was like come on are u kidding
It's so hard to see simmers sent home that we know could've done a great job! I do suspect they already knew if they were a stylist/builder/storyteller going in, they just didn't clarify that for the viewers
@@repsmila yeah I mean I've said this before but the judges are: A guru of a game that Dosent have any story A blonde girl who works for the channel and plays the sims for fun And the only qualified judge is the celebrity girl and she played like the sims once when she was 10. So??? Yeah, maybe they shouldve gotten other simmers to judge like Lilsimsie, and plumbella should have been judges as they both have really inclusive save files, so they would be more broad.
@@zookeeps1340 yeah that's true or maybe people from the sims team and not some people that barely know the game. it was weird cuz like the girls tried to not be mean and he tried to be mean all the time lmao
I feel you on the AC! But you can always edit it out in post with a denoise option on your audio track. :) Otherwise, you could always try to mask it a bit with some background music. Really thought your insight was well said! Just finished watching this episode & it was painful to hear about their time constraints. How does one create a story, style sims, & create a house in 90 minutes? Are you insane!?!? Even more cringy was how the voice-over acting just sounded like they were reading off a script. They were probably exhausted & hated being there at that point because I know these simmers can't be popular if they sounded the way they did. & also...slightly small thing but, the pronunciation of Francesca as Fran-cess-ka instead of Fran-chess-ka killed me a little. Don't give your sims names you can't pronounce correctly, guys, come on.
I usually try to EQ the noise out, but last time I tried there were enough different frequencies of fans that it just made it worse 😂 you can tell I'm not an audio editor! The time constraints are massive, especially when you throw in the editing time for the machinima challenge!
It was a bit of a weird watch for me, because on the one hand I loved seeing some of my fave simmers in the wild, but on the other hand, the sledging of the storytellers (who were up against a wall, especially in that first challenge, and who aren't all convincing voice actors) and the editing to make the tensions look more amped up than I believe they really were made me cringe more than a little. Jesse's comment about wanting to be remembered as a good person is peak Sims community.
Thanks for the sub! (even if it did ruin 69 haha!). I really wonder how they prepped the contestants for the storytelling aspect, they seemed caught off guard. Jesse’s comment said more about the sims community than the whole show imo!
I think the show kind of failed in the development of the casts storylines as characters on a reality TV show. It feels like Steph was the only one who managed to convey their personality in the confessional. Xmiramira was the only one who even made an attempt in the confessionals to give us a storyline!
It’s definitely a double-edged sword, I think anyone outside of the sims community would be hard pressed to really get who any of the contestants are. I’m hoping with less contestants as time goes on that we get more personality on screen.
@@ScrunchieSims I think if they had known from the start that this would be a four episode run they should have cast less contestants so we could spend more time getting to known them and getting invested in their story lines. Maybe they'll make changes to the format next season

Yeah, I think any attempts at editing in drama fell pretty flat 😂 the community is too nice

I like that they had a time challenge, but the expectations did seem very out of line with the time they were given!

Machinimas are such an old school thing for the community at this point! A weird choice for sure
@@ScrunchieSims yea I love a good machinama but in my opinion, there's a select few who pull it off well.

To me it feels like they’ve taken the set-up from Bake-off.
It’s definitely a typical competition show structure, but it reminds me more of the format that Face Off and other shows use
@@ScrunchieSims I don't what that show is.
