I remember assisting several photographers who had the photoflex fanny pack, as it was sold in all the camera stores. That is so cool your Dad was an original founder! Great equipment all around with photoflex. You have a terrific personality, I find your review so informative, plus you are funny. It’s a total pleasure viewing you. Thank you to your Dad, and to yourself!
I have the 3l and 6l peak design slings and I love them! Perfect for street photography , or even taking the mini drone +every thing u need and a small camera with me
Wait! Don’t bury the lede! Your father was a part of PhotoFlex! Wow. My favorite all time camera bag rig was the PhotoFlex/Galen Rowell collaboration. I still have it from the 90s. It was a modular sling/waist system that just worked perfectly. Photoflex made GREAT stuff at a time when it was difficult to find bag innovation. Many kudos to your father. Your passion for bags comes honestly. You should be proud of your legacy. Respect.
I looked for a replacement for a shoulder bag for a Sony e-mount, 18-200 mm power zoom, 8" tablet with keyboard, battery pack, accessories and the now usual daily carry of mobile phone, wallet, multitool, sanitizer, face mask. In trying to fit these into bags from 1.25 litre to 10 litre I found that the quoted size of a bag differs from what you can pack into it. A soft padded Bobby Sling at 4.5 litres held more than bags at 6 and 7 litres. Went for this because of the look and similarity to the Bobby Bizz. Different opening style and is not symmetrical to allow you to swap shoulders. The 6 litre ALPAKA Go Sling seems tiny but held almost as much as the larger slings. It lacks external straps and pockets so can't fit tripod or water bottle. With clips they could be hung off the D rings. This is also a sling that works as pouch to go into everyday carry backpack or carry on luggage - even though removing the sling strap is not quick. The X-pac limited edition versions, sold in black and then green earlier in 2021, are lighter and possibly even more hard wearing. The X-pac version of the Instinct Pro Camera Sling is much lighter than the basic model. X-pac is lighter and stronger the material on most bags. With the straps and two side pockets carries everything comfortably. The majority of slings seem to work well enough when nearly empty e.g. just a camera, lens and spare batteries but no tablet or just a tablet and EDC items. Going to 10 litres size (and more) soon gets to a brick that is 7-9kg and will not stay in place when you bend over or ride a bicycle (hence the stabilising strap on some). It can be a lot to have over just one shoulder. At least I am not trying to lug around a 14 kg hard case with a should mount video camera as I did along the Great Wall of China. Most have to be obtained direct from the manufacturer or specialised outlets. You can't work out from videos or photographs if it will work for your stuff or not. The best you can do is reduce it to a small number to get in to try. This is not cheap when looking at several 100USD slings with very similar features on paper.
My first sling was the Canon fanny-pack akin to the 200EG backpack. Pain in the butt to get stuff in and out because of the design. I now have the Nomatic/McKinnon one and it's amazing. They redesigned the bungee cord attach point and it works much more smoothly than the pre-production model shown in the video. Highly recommend it.
@6:30 the Nomatic 8L has been revised slightly since this video and instead of the round black button, there’s now a solid low profile hook there that functions much better.

Thank you so much for perfect video. You helped me a lot to choose the right bag for me. Thanks.
Just got my Instinct Tech & Trek Sling 2.3L, just compact enough for my Sony ZV-1 vlogging camera with a lot of organisations. Love the magnetic V-buckle so far. Yup , that click sound.
The Incase Ari Marcopolous bag has been my all time fav for over a decade now. The original grey material was super tough and sturdy. Just managed to score one in the limited Black Leather version recently. Unfortunately the Ari bag was discontinued but their current camera sling is basically the same thing but with cheaper materials.
Yes, I, too, have both the canvas and leather Aris. Brilliant bags. Nothing in this video appeals by comparison. And he hasn't even mentioned the Thinktank Urban Access 10 which is a *current* model, and also quite stunning.
Thumbs up for the mere fact of doing all these. I like the Movement but don’t want to carry sling style.. if it worked messenger style I could be down.
Find a solution yet, Marland? I’ve spent the last two years alternating between the grey v1 and the tan v2 Peak Design Everyday Messenger 15. I carry an HP Spectre 15”, R5 with battery grip, 70-200mm RF and 24-70mm RF. My only complaint is that the zipper over the laptop area needs to either be replaced or have the stitching repaired. When I need to carry another body, 15-35mm RF and a drone, I move over to the LowePro ProTactic BP 450 AW II.
Chase you continue to be the 🐐 in this space! Glad WANDRD has engaged you but for the love of you know who, they need to call you WHILE they are designing their next bag (if they do). Or redesigning. They hit it with PRVKE and then get like almost all the way there with each next release and then fumble near the goal line (exception: PRVKE new models 21L and 40L and V2 of 21L and 31L .. they did great on those!). I don't get it! But would like them to succeed! I just can't get myself to buy a McKinnon bag, not sure why (or maybe I am).
That was good information, thank you. I have two slings, an Ona Rockaway (canvas) and a Think Tank Photo Urban Access 10. The Ona sling is my favorite bag for street photography, and the Think Tank bag is great for when I need to carry my iPad Air 3; it has a dedicated area for a tablet.
really helpful, thank you. Im looking for something on the smaller side, ended up buying a tomtoc, which is great, if I didnt need to put a camera in it. So back to the drawing board. I have concluded, I need a 30x20 (x10ish) bag to compete with my existing and be more useful. The 6L moment looks so close to a finish if it wasnt for the lack of water bottle holder, otherwise as a camera rig it has everything. very helpful to see all the sizes in this video.
Thanks for another awesome video. Would love to see a similarly detailed camera cube roundup! Looking for the right cube to add into my EDC backpack. Thanks!
Wandrd sleeve for a laptop has a shoulder strap and you can fix their tech pouch to it. It means you only have to carry what you now need. A neat and flexible solution. To carry all, DSLR and large tablet and all the accessories you are better off with a backpack, but then you always have a backpack and not something that can be a lot smaller.
I never knew your dad was a bag designer, it all makes sense now. Thanks for the vid. I sold my MW Integer and bought a camera cube (Lowepro) to just throw my minimal DLSR setup into any bag I want to use. I'm not into photography enough to need a specialized bag. Plus the iPhone max pro takes most of the pictures anyways.
I watched this because I've been in the market for a photography orientated sling, instead of using a big ol' backpack (I have Shimoda Action X30) or a poorly padded bag. I've been waiting for the Nomatic X McKinnon because it seemed like the Peak Design ones, but better designed for photographers. Now I'm not sure cause the Wandrd Roam is very nice (I really like their new Prvke Lite as well), as well as the Moment Rugged. I don't have an iPad so maybe I'll still go with the Nomatic or one of the smaller Wandrd offerings.
The last group damn these are big… If I needed to carry that much volume I think I’ll prefer a real backpack. I have had the peak sling for many years, I really wish these could take a Tripod easier like the Wandrd and Moment, so getting one of those.
I need help. I want a sling that can carry the gear I need. I usually bring a separate bag just for one lens. I need a sling that can carry a Canon Eos R with an attached battery grip, Sigma 24-70 and a Sigma 70-200. Thank you!
Love your reviews. I have been looking at bags for weeks. I want to fit my Sony a 6000 and my Kodak AZ910 in a bag. So I’m still up in the air on which one I should get but your reviews definitely help
If that Wandrd Roam 9l was longer would be perfect. Don't necessarily need the height. Why can't someone make something for a camera and 70 - 200 attached? A very common set up. For it to lay horizontally not vertically. Would work with the Wandrd but no room for just a few small extras like the Fuji x100v.
Niiiice round up. Been using the Peak 10L as a work bag around the house and outdoor settings while the office is still closed. I can actually just fit my laptop in there but I tend to just pop it in sideways and leave the zipper open since it'll be the first in/last out pretty much all the time. I really like the look of the Metromonger too but not sure I have an immediate purpose for it. Would you say it's as big as the Peak 10L? Awesome content as always.
I tried the Hex DSLR sling, and promptly sent it back. The bag has essentially no structure; you might as well through your equipment in a padded duffel bag. The tiny dividers had no chance of keeping expensive gear protected when the bag sags and droops under the weight of even my mirrorless G9. Very disappointing, because the size was perfect and the materials were solid... these folks just don't understand what makes a good camera bag.
Love this video! I'm looking for a sling. In my research I came to the same conclusion you did - it's between the Peak Design 10L and the Moment Rugged Sling 10L. So while you've given me enormous validation that I'm on the right track, are you willing to say which you prefer between the two?
Hopefully you didn't go with the Peak Design 10L. I made that mistake. It's a great looker, and terrific materials, and the design STINKS! The bottom is rounded - the thing won't stand up on it's own. The lid doesn't open and stay open - always flopping over. Just sold mine and went for the more basic, simple, and functional HEX Ranger DSLR Sling Bag.
Can you please help me to confirm: will the 16inch laptop fit in the Wandrd Roam 6L version? Cause im confusing to choose between those slings... thanks a lot
I backed the 6L and I’m fairly positive that it fits the same laptop as the 9L. Check out the Kickstarter page for the spec, I think they had a load out breakdown video on Wandrd Instagram too.

Best camera sling video I’ve seen so far. Great Job. Definitely helped me narrow it down.

We had a Galen Rowell signed book from that collaboration that I gave to one of my best friends. Good memory!
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 im always so stocked to see a TH-cam notification for a new video from Chase
typically gotta pre-rub one out, so I can last the entire video.
I got the 3L Peak Design. Got black, but I’m returning it for the gray one. I do wish it was less bulky though.

Wish the WANDRD roam slings would come out or come out before next year lol. They look amazing

Chase, you doubled up on the Nomatic URLs (the one for the Greenroom sling also links to the Nomatic).
Great review, as usual.
I think I like the hex sling it’s size is perfect to put my Profoto B1x on the go when I need to walk around and don’t want to get noticed.

Still looking for everyday sling bag that is just big enough for canon R .And not a Dedicated camera bag sling.
The devil is in the detail of the other junk we expect to also carry now.
So right 🤔

Looking for the same but with a R7 & adapted sigma 18-35

I’m getting the Wandrd 6L. The option to carry water and snacks separate from my camera gear in a mid sized sling is oddly specific to my needs.
good point, safely separating the water from the camera is a big plus indeed!
Currently the HEX sling. Also have their back pack from a few years ago.
God I love this channel.
the rolltop of Compagnon element 15L is wide enough to house a Peak Design tripod. and i like it.
"Put my butt to sleep"
If that's an Ice Cube reference, I'm your fan for life
Will you be doing an in-depth review of the new Wandrd Roam sling?
Wandrd sleeve for a laptop has a shoulder strap and you can fix their tech pouch to it. It means you only have to carry what you now need. A neat and flexible solution. To carry all, DSLR and large tablet and all the accessories you are better off with a backpack, but then you always have a backpack and not something that can be a lot smaller.
damn you just sent my ass on a journey into companon bags lol. WOW. thats some high quality shit it looks like lol.
amazing review ! thanks a lot, i was looking about a video like this. Now the hard choose: which one ????????????????
Man if that McKinnon bag had a spot for a 11in ipad it would literally be perfect. Bummer
I never knew your dad was a bag designer, it all makes sense now. Thanks for the vid. very useful - thank you

Stoked to watch this!
Love your reviews. I have been looking at bags for weeks.
I want to fit my Sony a 6000 and my Kodak AZ910 in a bag. So I’m still up in the air on which one I should get but your reviews definitely help
Do you think the wandrd 9L would fit zv-e10 + tamron 17-70mm + extra lens viltrox 13mm and maybe a gimbal the RS3 Mini?

Billingham makes the best camera bags.
Very cool bags, any thought about Instinct Pro Camera Sling? Wanna get the X-Pac version
"Fly the Flag" is about Pete's pirate life.
How would you rate the Compagnon Sling 15 for EDC? Any more thoughts on this bag in specific?
Is there room for an ipad pro in the Peter McKinnon Nomatic sling?
Do you have a link to the Nomadic X Peter McKinnon? I cannot find it online. Looks like a good fit for the Air 2s.
I have the dji mini se fly more combo im looking for a sling to carry all that and a folding drone landing pad any suggestions
It’s such a shame the PeakDesign 3l doesn’t have a slot for an iPad mini
did you see or test the PGYTech OneMo Sling ?
I prefer the size of the Peak Design 3L but the lack of a tablet pocket is making it not buy it.
Niiiice round up. Been using the Peak 10L as a work bag around the house and outdoor settings while the office is still closed. Similar size, not as tall I’d say.

That sling laptop connection has to be the worst invention I’ve ever seen in this industry 🤦🏻♂️
Love this video! I'm looking for a sling. In my research I came to the same conclusion you did - it's between the Peak Design 10L and the Moment Rugged Sling 10L. So while you've given me enormous validation that I'm on the right track, are you willing to say which you prefer between the two?

I need much smaller, like x100v size!
Is there a difference between Wandrd Rogue and Roam??
They are the same.
Do I need a sling no do I watch yes
I just want a camera bag that doesn’t look like a camera bag
If you’re willing to part ways with that Nomatic x PM.. I’m ready, name your price..
i need chapters whaaaaaaaaa
Description.
👉👈 yup… that’s on me. My bad. 😅
All these are so expensive.
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I don't like those Peak design at all! They fail to stand unpacked. Lowepro makes a sling that I'd prefer Lowepro Slingshot Edge 250 AW! 😍
Water condom always great to have.
Can you please help me to confirm: will the 16inch laptop fit in the Wandrd Roam 6L version? Cause im confusing to choose between those slings... thanks a lot

Fly the flag? Which flag?? Lol
😭😭😭😭😭😭
These all honestly seem overpriced.
