Yeah :) It's so UT-ish, but actually it wasn't composed specifically for UT. Hell, it was done even before U1 was released - that is in 1996. Originally it was just a random demoscene song with listening purpose only. But in 1999 (or so) Necros agreed to use it in the soundtrack... and that was a good move. By the way "Mechanism Eight" is the very first song of Necros I ever heard :) And that's how I got myself into demoscene music.
UT99's version is the first song that really kicked my skull in and made me realize video game music can be more than just background noise. Although overall that soundtrack is KILLER. I was so hyped to hear what this one would sound like, and it's not awful.. but it does kinda feel lacking in some ways.
Not bad imo, both versions have their own magic, though I would stick with UT99's one for nostalgia's sake. I never heard a version of this song in the official UT2004 though, went through all the music in the game, so it must have been an unofficial remix I think.
