- KastKing Zephyr BFS Reel Upgrade with Roro Micro Bearings. These will be the ultimate bearing upgrade for casting light lures for accuracy. Lighter lures will benefit most for distance and accuracy where as heavier lures is just for accuracy, may lose some distance on lures that are too heavy.
Note: this reel is outdated and there are many other options there does better for lures 2.25 grams and lower. One would be Ark Gravity bfs reel! Comes with micro bearings casting down to half a gram easily!

Man, can't wait to get my hands on this reel. With a light soft tip UL-rod, will be a great addition to my perch fishing here in Sweden!
Also just a small tip, it would be better for seeing casting distance if you went to a pond or lake without those fountains that make a bunch of ripples in the water :D
Make sure you make your blood sacrifice to Njord, so hopefully sea transport will come cheaper and so they can restock stores lol! Just kidding, I am a huge vikings fan and Norse mythology. I like that fountain tho lol... close to home. The other pond I am closer to... some kid whooped out a combat knife and chopped a bluefill up to feed turtles.... he was like maybe 10 and he was like DIE DIE DIE... lol... i think i will stay here. Plus water here is clear and I can see lure action;) I will release a video soon actually fishing here. Its fun !

Rawr i have a gh-100 and have purchased micro bearings could you explain a little more about the difficulties installing bearings in the gh100?
i think i explained it pretty well there. the clip will just get stuck on the braking system and you can't poke it in with a chopstick. i did it okay with two chopsticks on the GH100 but I had to take it apart for the Darkwolf. Just be extremely careful when taking it apart... the springs are tiny for the magnetic braking system.. mine shot out and luckily it hit the magnet. if it shot into the room.. it would be a goner!
What do you think about lubing up the stainless steel micro bearings? Or they don't need just like the ceramic hybrid ones.
I have thought about it a lot... I am going with non-lube right now to see if it is actually good quality stainless steel. Not all stainless steel are equal and I am willing to risk the test. If i didn't have the extra set of bearings, I would have applied something. The page that sold it lacked details on if it is already lubricated from the factory. My assumption is that they have lubricated with at least something for factory storage/transportation so it doesn't rust before it gets to the customer.. so it might suffice for awhile.. we will see!
The only small jerkbait that has a weight transfer that i know of is the Zip Baits Rigge. JDM only of course and not cheap. And they dont suspend. I have a few and yeah they cast great but they arent very light, maybe like 4 grams.

I fish little minnow/jerk baits a lot. Try the Bearking 63mm 5.5 gram lure if you want distance. It's on the bigger size for bfs, but it casts well. If you order, get the 3 pack to save money. There are also some no name 3.5 gram minnow baits on aliexpress that cast OK for thier size, but they don't have the moving weight system.
Yeah i had a feeling that I have to up my size... but it is what it is I guess. Thx for the suggestion. I may try sinking ones instead since those are usually heavier. Should be good for constant retrieving and in streams
@@rawrfishing the sinking/suspending ones are what I use in rivers/streams and they work well. I have a few 1.6 gram ones, but I can't find any reel that casts those. Stay healthy and good luck on your next outing.

Awesome man! I think either bearings would work. I tried them both and I can't really feel the difference... but I havent casted anything over 7 grams. But on paper I would choose the one that rated up to 15 grams!
Hello guys, I have a question, what is the size, dimension of the bearing ? Because in the Link aliexpress they are not 5*10*4 and 3*10*4, they are just 5*11*4 and 3*10*4 size, so 🤷🏻♂️ ?

It really depends on the lures you really wanna throw and how long you want the rod to be. Super subjective
When I follow the stainless bearing link there is no 1054 for stainless only for ceramic hybrid.
I guess it's out of stock and they have stopped selling it. Ceramic hybrid is more popular and better in most instances.

Hi have a ? for ya, will this reel be good for me I have a shimano slx dc and a piscifun phantom and I always throw baits with just a hook like yum houdini shad and flukes and plastic worms, would this cast further for me over my other reels when throwing the baits I mentioned? Thanks
This is a BFS reel, intended to throw light lures I would say this reel is great from UL, L and ML with thin line from lure weights 2 to potentially 14 grams. I have no idea about how it would compare to your other reels and lure casting distance as I haven't use those before. sorry I couldn't really answer your question!
@@rawrfishing Thanks, a good test video for you? maybe you could try casting some weightless flukes and wacky worms..I measured the weight on a wacky worm and it was under 10 grams.
I am against wacky rig fishing. but i'll cast flukes texas rigged for sure. 10 gram lure is heavy enough for it to fly tho. I would put them on a ML or even L tackle rod with a fast tip action so you can set the hook if fishing t-rig style for the fluke.

I havent had a senko style worm in years. But I will see what I can do. Might be just flukes for some fall pickerels

So I managed to snipe a kit of the Zyhper rod/reel tonight, from Kastking official store on Aliexpress(fingers crossed it will getting here) Does the RORO surpass the SDS costum?
I believe sds uses rays studio and they have been more popular and longer than roro. It also got a clip where as roro doesn't. I would opt for sds/rays studio [purple outer sleeve]

I got the rod today, feels really good! The reel is stuck in custom so gonna take another 2 weeks, forgot about the bearings so need to order it in the days.

Sure will, but there is a limit due to other physical limitations of the reel. Spool is just too heavy and braking isn't made to throw that light. Tsurinoya dark wolf ultra does a better job for UL while this reel is best L and ML

I recommend the Tsurinoya Dragon C602UL rod and the dark wolf ultra if you are on a budget

I saw those were $50 pfff what a rip, I got a small pair of my nettle nose pliers and drilled a hole in one side! Worked just fine cost me 5 minutes of life! That $50 went to better use!! Just saying!!!

Yes! They just sell regular sized ceramic hyrbid bearings. I buy bearings over seas so I don't need to pay for their prices ;)
@@rawrfishing I was wondering if they were any good. I bought some ray's and put in my pro max and I did buy the zephyr 1.6m rod. It's what I keep in my car during the week. I like it but really want to try that reel out. It could go on the zephyr rod or maybe the 7'3" ul I'm building.
i'll be honest, one of the Spool Hi-Speed bearings that i have gotten for my KastKing Spartacus isn't up to par with my SDS bearing. I have put them side by side after they were cleaned and the SDS spun for so much longer. Could be just a defect on SHS... but let's jump to the Rays Studio now... totally different when you compare full size bearings to micros. As mentioned within the video, distance is VERY interesting when it comes to specific lure weights. You building a rod? make one via spiral wrap!!!! :O
@@rawrfishing I've been debating on whether or not to make it a spiral wrap. I'm not sure if there are benefits on ultralight rods like heavier ones. Eyelets will be in later this week. It's a mudhole mhx 2 piece. I may do a second shorter rod if I like this one.
I think it would! Our rods bends and twists too. But of course UL rods are more flexible than stiff heavy stuff. At least you can say the line is not touching the rod when it bends lol! Some folks (correction, many have expressed) have said that they hate it when the line touches the rod on BFS rods.

try SDS, they carry the Rays Studio ones and are pretty good. Lastly you can do the most expensive from Hedgehog studios.

@@geertwilders5566 sweet! no u run them dry. lube causes drag. and the blue lube are grease for gears. not bearings. if you hate the sound, then feel free to add the thinnest oil of your choice made for reel bearings. i use quantum hotsauce but it's not sold anywhere lately...

it's certainly possible; however, I don't and won't share the link to the store who permanently banned me for disputing a defective product. I could never put anyone of my viewers through the same drama that took almost a month to get my refund on a 70 dollar spool!

Which is better, the SIC ceramic or stainless steel ball version?
Depends on what u plan to do. If it's short distance light lures.. lighter version sic will be better. If you have semi light and going for distance.. heavier stainless steel will have longer momentum.

@@andrew1364 It really varies from reel to reel and the spool. This Zephyr best is really 1/16th oz. Some folks will and be able to cast down to 1 gram. But it's very short distance and need to be extremely skilled and precise in line choice and amount spooled on.

if you are using left hand reel, the GH100 should just be discarded. it's a terrible reel due to the horrible braking system. The Zephyr is more of a L BFS reel, so trying to push below 2 grams by installing micro bearings isn't that great. You would also lose a bit of distance when throwing heavier lures like 3 grams and up. I found the zephyr is best just wash out the stock grease and put high performance oil or just put standard ceramic hybrid bearings and have at it for 2.25 grams and up!

replace my bearings and fished all day nothing seems to have changed except the fact it dosent really throw things as far. checked and re checked them installed correctly i really dont see the upgrade or how it effectifly throws anything further let alone cast anything below 1/8th still. feel ripped off by everyone saying this was a worth upgrade.
Hold up, that's a misconception! Micro Bearings does not equate to further distance for all weight ranges. while It does for lures that too light for the reel to handle. But not for heavier lures such as 1/8th and above. In fact, anything 1/8th and above, should be using standard size bearings, but higher end ones. I have done plenty of testing with the zephyr. it's a really outdated reel at this point. I suggest looking at the new Ark Gravity BFS reel. comes stock with micro bearings and the spool and brakes are amazing allowing one to cast down to half gram easily.
its not really casting the lighter stuff any much better then before either 20$ and nothing seems to have improved anything with the reel, seems like a over hyped upgrade that isnt worth the price.@@rawrfishing
It improved a bit but the actual value depends on the angler I guess. But this video and reel is old. There's been huge improvement in the non Japanese reels for bait finesse. @@rawrfishing yea, might i picked up an okuma ultra light spinning reel for the river. But i do love the zepher, it reels is monster slot stripers in maryland. Awesome reel, just trying to eek a lil more out of it i guess.
If u like this reel, try a different bearing set. Full size ceramic hybrid. I got full size full ceramic bearings in mine for saltwater fishing. I toss 1/8th Oz jigs and 3 inch gulp minnows for fluke in the back bays and even surf!
You have to rely like baitcaster reel because there not the best for distance 🤔 out of all reel's wich one is best for distance. Ya rod madder's on size and longness. Reel's ⁉️ is a baitcaster reel it or spin cast or spinner cast.
I don't care for distance as it's not everything to fishing. U don't need the extra distance for my fishery. With that said, using a baitcasting setup will be more efficient for the shorter casts along with all the benefits of a casting reel, minus all the cons of a spinning reel!
Bait caster for life unless surf fishing that requires slinging of heavy bait.

Yeah, I think that they're jacking the price up due to the speed that they were selling out.
I think the prices went up due to "shipping" not how fast they were selling. Before Covid hit hard, it was cheaper for sure, then they added on shipping cost, now they removed shipping cost. I think the shipping cost were making people not wanting to buy it. so they removed they added the price together and just say free shipping. Marketing strategies 101 ;-)
I don't mind paying 60 bucks for it but I want Amazon 2 day shipping. I hate waiting for a month to have rods shipped over.

@@ElliottCustomLures I paid 35 bucks for it when I got mines. I broke my dexterity rod yesterday whipping the tip into a wooden pole mid cast. So I figured I would buy the longer zephyr rod.
But 65 bucks, that's heading into tsurinoya territory and I love my tsurinoya rods.

Ceramic with stainless steel casing will run thf same for ever if you take care of them right. The full stainless steel bearings and stainless steel casing will change though out the useg of is life spand of the bearings or bearing. Just saying my experience with bearing in small stuff and how much work they can do before is no longer good. RC car - skateboard - tools - motorcycles - I will just get OG parts then reference the par. Thank you for your time.

@@rawrfishing even Shimano and Abu Garcia don't use ceramic bearings steel micro bearings are almost better for long cast. High speed bearings= more backlash. You also know it
Sorry can you elaborate? You have some grammatic error(s) in your statement, making it difficult to understand.
Any way, what I know is that regardless of what one use, bearings have a lot of benefits. Choosing the right ones isn't that complicated, but as an angler, one should know how they work and choose the right one to make it work for them. Can they make one backlash easier? Sure, but that is most definitely user error.
What I like to say about bearings is that they allow one to cast lighter lures easier and use less power while at it. If you use the same power and brake settings after upgrading, you are already doing it wrong.

@@rawrfishing Casting the stock model is tiresome. It "Bird nests" up and lands short and left. You're better off getting something more reliable than fiddling around with mods.
