When I was younger I used to think that the swirls on those engines were just cute design choices. Now, being an adult working at UPS, I understand that they’re actually meant to let engineers know how fast those things are moving.
The swirls are mainly used as a bird deterrent which is weird i know but they're meant to scare them due to the bright spinning object, as if the noise alone wouldn't scare them away 😂 we can also use them to tell when the engine is under power but then again its fairly obvious even with ear defenders on but their main purpose is for the birds :)
@@finlaymorrison281 I doubt that spiral does anything to scare away birds. Birds dont fly into engines, engines fly into birds. The spiral is just a visual indicator for ground crew know if the engine is running or it has been shut down.
whats really crazy is the size of the engine vs. the plane. A car engine takes up a 3rd of the car generally; but a jet engine is more like 1 10th of the size, which means means its so much more powerful!
Well not really, the bay where the car engines are of course are big and take a lot of place, but usually the engines are small, specially in this era with the small 4 cylinders in line And the electronics of an Airplane are distributed through all the plane, as the fuel too in the wings If you take the engine block out of a car, would be the same ratio as the engine of airplanes
A car’s engine size is nothing to even compare to an airplane’s engine that’s like way beyond bigger than a car’s engine will ever be. GE90s for example are MASSIVE! They’re bigger than the ground equipment vehicles, A plane is by far the most powerful machinery that generates unbelievable pounds of thrust whereas a car’s engine is all about horsepower but horsepower will never beat an airplane’s power at all or ever.
Very cool sound! I like when the Doppler Effect happens as you see a plane takeoff from a runway, while you hear the jet engine throttling faster. Sounds like the Batmobile from the 60's Batman tv series.
I always loved this kind of transportation, it feels so smooth and soft whenever it takes off and landing, but the price of ticket is way too expensive and pricey
Not an issue, the ground controller calls the pilot at the end of the push back to set there parking break and they also reduce throttle to idle, then they remove the steering pin and other stuff and say pushback complete blah blah blah. I'd say it'd be difficult to find a controller who had there foot run over in this instance
Totally an aviation nut myself! Dis guy right here always watch the plane video from here with my rock playlist crancked to 11. Metallica, Delta Parole, ACDC etc. AWESOME!
@Colgate Toothpaste it's actually because reverse thrusters consume large amount of fuel and it is needed when landing. It also gives less power. You can know about this further by seeing videos from channel "Captain Joe". He had uploaded a video, what are the reverse thrusters.
I'm fact they use the APU (witch is a small turbine engine in the rear of the aircraft) to have compressed air for the engine start-up and electrical power in the aircraft

Depends on who you're flying with/ where you're going. :P Ryanair's 737 Euro flights are as cheap as £9.99.

Fun fact: Why does planes needed to push backward instead of reversing itself?
Because they don't have side mirrors
Colgate Toothpaste They’re planes, and planes have wings, so surely they’d be ‘wing mirrors’.
PR NOTHALL you must be a fun person
I would also add that they actually used to pushback themselves in the 1980s but the FAA deemed it was very inefficient use of fuel.
They have a truck like vehicle that pulls and pushes the plane to its position
@Colgate Toothpaste it's actually because reverse thrusters consume large amount of fuel and it is needed when landing. It also gives less power. You can know about this further by seeing videos from channel "Captain Joe". He had uploaded a video, what are the reverse thrusters.

Do all passenger aircraft has in built air compressor to start their engine? Someone please clear my doubt
I'm fact they use the APU (witch is a small turbine engine in the rear of the aircraft) to have compressed air for the engine start-up and electrical power in the aircraft
If you notice, There's a small opening for the exhaust of the generator at the rear end of the aircraft. You can call it a poop hole of the aircraft.
